It's because he's trying to bring about the equality of humans and animals, and heartwarming stories like King and Bailey will help. Especially since King is like a miniature human in a dog suit.

Geeze, what is this, Animal Planet After Dark or something?

King is one heck of a great communicator.

I wonder when King tells Bailey... on the honeymoon or before the wedding? :|

You know what? Unless Pete is involved in this somehow, I doubt that King will reveal he was human. I mean, there is no real point.

I do believe honesty is a key and all... but Joel may very well no longer exist.
As far as I am concerned King and Joel are two completely different characters in a sense.

You guys seem dead centered on Pete being part of this.
But think. If he is. THIS WILL NOT END WELL. And everything King has worked for will be ruined.

ALSO. WHO ELSE THINKS FOX WILL BE BEST DOG

It's not like anyone wants it, but... the Get Your Good Side comment "No, I’m not aware of anyone else whose goals include reconciliation of all sapient life. Why?" seems kind of suggestive.

Perhaps King (Joel) is happy with the life he has now. He met interesting friends and now he's gotten far enough with Bailey to get married. :)

Which is exactly why I think people asking if king will go back to being a human is stupid

Yeah, but the point sorta stands. Pete definitely at least likes that Bailey and King are an item (the maniacal laughter other folks have mentioned certainly suggested that). With Keene involved, he has a player on the board as well, and they are indeed trying to press Animal-Human equality with the Animal Planet miniseries. This has Pete written all over it.

In fact, that King hasn't seen it coming is probably, at least at some level, willful ignorance. He hates the whole idea of the "cosmic jerks" and they haven't actually bothered him for quite some time now, so it's understandable to hope that this segment of his life is closed for now (leaving him as a dog, of course). He's trying to be happy where he is.

And if I believed for even one second that it would last, I'd be happy too.

Interesting...
Keene stapled the papers in the right corner. I always go for the left.
...
Carry on.

Fighting Death happens twice that I can think of in the Discworld series.

* Mort fights death and loses, but Death thinks* sorry for him and turns his lifetimer over to start again and sends him back to the world.

* Death fights the new Death and wins by cheating.

* Death doesn't have glands so he can't feel sorry

Didn't he wrestle Death by Being Wrestled by Steve Irwin to death at one point?
