This has some interesting implications. He should apply for a job in the UN to be their international translator. XD

I was thinking of something like
International Delegate: [some foreign language that won't make any sense to me]
International Delegate's Pet: [repeats what he says]
John Dolittle: We want to improve trade relation to [some random country].

...something like that XD

Gecko, with those dialogues, you could very well draw the seagull sequel!

Come to think of it, Dolittle's (Sadly, that last name fits him in these hard times.) translation to Itsuki might be heard by the latter in japanese, since that's his native tongue and all.

I think they're looking to test my skills
with a strip guesting the legal Japanese
citizen. It becomes a battle of the wills
but I don't do Haiku so please be at ease.

He's not a Doctor here, this guy Dolittle
he's really nothing that's truly unique
but he's still useful, and I don't belittle
he's a useful, language translating, geek.

The smartest Tanuki can only be so smart
and he has proved that smart he really is.
He knows that language comes from the heart
so he's hired someone who's a whizz
He may well be a top sandwich mechanic -
he knows that there's no value in panic.

It wasn't in the comic, but I think it was in an unpublished part of An Infinitesimally Brief History of the world, or if not Rick mentioned it at some point. so it's Word of God at this point

Well, since humans are considered to be part of the Animalia kingdom....

And I was REALLY looking forward to see what limmerick you would write about this strip.

I asked Rodrigo about it and he said the smoking car is a Fiat 128, while the one in the garage is a Smart.

I have no technical savvy whatsoever, so I left it up to him to choose the model and colour of the car, or cars, as he added a lot of cool details I didn't even mention. XD

And a quibble on the translation: "romper" refers to physically rupture, while "break down" means simply that it has some imprefection that prevents it from working. A better translation would be "the engine cracked" or "split" or "was ripped apart" or...

I would've figured it even if you hadn't said it. He seems to like a lot Fiat. But now I wonder what on earth are doing these cars in USA?

Well, he would still be a useful spy, sending insects out to get information by being literal flies on the wall...

Great strip! I like the joke. So he was a veterinarian at some point?

We need him to visit Babylon Gardens at some point.

That's part of the joke: In the books and movies, Doctor Dolittle has the ability to speak to animals, which gives him an upper hand when it comes to knowing what an animal is suffering of, as well as on how to coax them into cooperating with the medics.

In Housepets! however, he couldn't take advantage of this, since most animals already speak intelligently and coherently, so he couldn't make the cut (pun intended.). : P

I guess he was a victim of..... Murphy's law! Sorry.
