I'm not sure that he is. His spots aren't arranged in rosettes like the leopard. But all the spotted cats I can find other than the cheetah have spots arranged in distinctive clumps or lines, but he doesn't have the cheetah's "tear" spots so perhaps he's an atypical leopard.

Itsuki is probably a hunk to other Tanuki.

What's next? Wolverine, bear, hyena, fossa, honey-badger, tasmanian devil, kolonok, ...?

Also, unless Diss purposedly misled us, he said 'Click here to salivate over leopards'.
It would've been cool if Jata was a descentant of Tex, tho.

Well he appears to be getting out of the driver's side of the cab, unless HP! is set in a country with right hand drive?

Perhaps he's a cabdriver. That's why he has a badge. More pets with real jobs.

As far as I know, Crown Vics don't have "suicide doors" unless the taxi company is extremely lenient in it's modification policies.

The cab depicted in the comic is not a Ford Crown Victoria. The styling of the vehicle is more reminiscent of vehicles from the 1950s and '60s, when "suicide doors" were more prevalent.

He has an ID hanging around his neck, clothes, and enough money for at least a cab. I doubt people will react as negatively.

I dunno. This looks a little like a Checker Marathon from the back (first panel); they certainly had the 1950s styling Dissension mentioned. When did Checker stop building cars, in the late 1970s? I'm pretty sure they all had conventional doors.

One thing that no one seems to have noted is that Jata has a duffel bag slung over his shoulder. Probably not typical for a taxi driver to carry a duffel routinely.

Unless he's just on his way to use the Houseweasels' gym.

I noticed that, but a cabdriver has to live somewhere too, and if you're a leopard then there's one neighborhood you'll feel at home in.

(Although, it must be noted, given that in US animals don't have many rights, it's hard they can be qualified to drive cars.)

The strap of the above-mentioned duffel bag.

It is -really- bothering me that, for a Leopard, he has Cheetah spots instead. x-x Leopards have spots that are slightly darker then their fur color with a block border. And, unlike Jaguars, they do not have black spots within the slightly darker spots.

Error! The spots are right as you can see from these samples.
To see the big ones with a spot in the middle, you should be rude and undress Jata, but far as head and arms go, they are right, with a concession to cartoon stylization.

Interesting new character, looking for what will happen next. He's really driving the taxi? He looks more a passenger that took it to go to the town, he has a bag too. That dress... maybe he comes from Africa?

Appears so, indeed. But maybe the car it's foreign and has the right hand drive? Could the back plate suggest this?

You know, it would be funny if Jata was female and Peanut got the aforementioned Jungle Fever.

Rick has stated before that there is a small African nation ruled by cheetahs... perhaps the ferrets are trying to bring in one of those citizens to their Pet Project with the wolves?

I like Jata's hair.... I might style my hair like that when I get it cut next. :)
