Now you have another character to add in the back issues. This is the raccoon from "Oops, I Arced" that first brought Zachary to the temple. :P

Thanks Rick, now it's very hard not to think or even say Openermas instead of Christmas. I like it, maybe I'll keep it.
All hail the Opener Of Ways

Just what I thought:
Render wrote:Custom Ink is a strange name. Who might she be? Have we seen anymore raccoons apart from Truck & Falstaff, the broomed ones from the beginning and the guide of the Opener of Ways? It might be the guide, the fur pattern in the face is pretty much the same but the tail's rings are different. But that might be a result from the new disign. We'll see.
And is she really female?

Also for some weird reason I can't get Firefox to show the comic, had to jump to Opera. Firefox even gives 404 on looking at the comics by date or direct links so it's not the cache.
Wow -- kudos to @Xane for either powers of recall or research (or both). I'm most impressed.

Mr. Griffin has introduced an Opossum who is actually cute. Grumpy, but cute. I'd be grumpy too, under the circumstances -- close the dog-blasted door, C.I.!

Don't know what happened with the comic in Firefox -- that's about all I use and it looked fine -- but then, I logged in late. Sometimes Mozilla does silly stuff to enforce the W3 HTML standards, and webpages stop working properly.

It's probably the one from the openers Arc. The eye color matches, the fur patterns in the face matches, only the eyebrows and the rings on the tail doesn't match (seen at the spoiler). But that is probably a result from the new design. Other changes (eyelashes) may be the result of the gender Custom Ink now got.

OK, lots of people comparing the raccoons, so...
Here's a list of all the raccoons that have ever appeared and a brief description of their masks.
Note there are 2 raccoons who are obscured (1 wearing a ghost costume and 1 reading the holy liturgy of Zach with his back mostly to us) who are difficult to place.

https://www.housepetscomic.com/2008/08/11/dont-shoot/
https://www.housepetscomic.com/2008/08/13/stick-em-up/
2 Raccoons
Mask over muzzle and down cheek tufts
Mask around eyes (unconnected) and down cheek tufts

https://www.housepetscomic.com/2008/12/ ... s-edition/
1 Raccoon
Mask around eyes (unconnected) and down cheek tufts- Aqua/Green eyes

https://www.housepetscomic.com/2009/11/ ... reciation/
https://www.housepetscomic.com/2009/11/ ... bad-bunny/
https://www.housepetscomic.com/2009/11/11/key-phrase/
https://www.housepetscomic.com/2009/11/ ... done-that/
https://www.housepetscomic.com/2009/11/ ... hall-pass/
1 Raccoon
Mask down cheek tufts - Yellow eyes

https://www.housepetscomic.com/2010/10/29/and-then/
1 Raccoon
Mask around eyes (unknown if connected or not) (muzzle and cheeks unknown) - Yellow eyes

https://www.housepetscomic.com/2011/08/03/book-ends/
3 Raccoons
Mask around eyes (connected) and down cheek tufts - Grey eyes (kit)
Mask around eyes (connected) - Yellow eyes (kit)
Mask over muzzle and down cheek tufts (unknown around eyes) - Yellow eyes

https://www.housepetscomic.com/2012/05/ ... sundering/
1 Raccoon
Mask over muzzle and down cheek tufts - Aqua/Green eyes

https://www.housepetscomic.com/2012/12/ ... t-i-tried/
2 Raccoons
Mask around eyes (connected) and down cheek tufts - Possibly Yellow eyes (likely Truck)
Mask around eyes (connected) and down cheek tufts - Yellow eyes (likely Falstaff)

https://www.housepetscomic.com/2013/01/ ... -yer-craw/
https://www.housepetscomic.com/2013/01/ ... ning-face/
https://www.housepetscomic.com/2013/01/ ... ity-theft/
https://www.housepetscomic.com/2013/01/18/da-da-da-da/
https://www.housepetscomic.com/2013/01/ ... whack-man/
https://www.housepetscomic.com/2013/01/ ... s-the-way/
https://www.housepetscomic.com/2013/01/ ... ing-hands/
https://www.housepetscomic.com/2013/01/ ... ve-dinner/
https://www.housepetscomic.com/2013/02/ ... -fade-out/
2 Raccoons
Mask around eyes (connected) and down cheek tufts and over muzzle - Blue eyes (Falstaff)
Mask around eyes (connected) and down cheek tufts - Green eyes (Truck)

https://www.housepetscomic.com/2013/05/ ... -da-bride/
Mask around eyes (connected) and down cheek tufts and over muzzle - Eyes indeterminable (Falstaff)

https://www.housepetscomic.com/2013/12/04/cold-snap/
Mask down cheek tufts - Yellow eyes (Custom Ink)

So ignoring those with unknown features:
1.Mask over muzzle and down cheek tufts
2.Mask around eyes (unconnected) and down cheek tufts
3.Mask around eyes (unconnected) and down cheek tufts - Aqua/Green eyes
4.Mask down cheek tufts - Yellow eyes
5.Mask over muzzle and down cheek tufts - Aqua/Green eyes
6.Mask around eyes (connected) and down cheek tufts and over muzzle - Blue eyes (Falstaff)
7.Mask around eyes (connected) and down cheek tufts - Green eyes (Truck)
8.Mask down cheek tufts - Yellow eyes (Custom Ink)

And the 2 kits:
9.Mask around eyes (connected) and down cheek tufts - Grey eyes
10.Mask around eyes (connected) - Yellow eyes

#2 and #3 are likely the same
#1 and #5 may be as well
#4 made the reference to "no brooms", so he is likely #2 with a style shift
An interesting correlation by looks is #4 with Custom Ink, indicating CI may have been the one to introduce Zach to the temple as well as getting the broom to the face.
Falstaff makes mention of Grape looking distressingly familiar, so he is likely #1 with a style shift (unless he's #2 which means CI is not #4, and Falstaff introduced Zach, but I think that's unlikely just based on character)

Which leaves us with this list:
1.Mask over muzzle and down cheek tufts - Aqua/Green eyes (was with the raccoon who got broom'd) (possibly Falstaff - though not very certainly)
2.Mask around eyes (unconnected) and down cheek tufts - Aqua/Green eyes (got broom'd by Grape) (possibly the raccoon who brought Zach to the temple - fairly strong evidence for this)
3.Mask down cheek tufts - Yellow eyes (brought Zach to the temple) (possibly Custom Ink - though correlation is strictly by looks currently - if this isn't cleared up during this arc I'll be more likely to suspect not)
4.Mask around eyes (connected) and down cheek tufts and over muzzle - Blue eyes (Falstaff)
5.Mask around eyes (connected) and down cheek tufts - Green eyes (Truck)
6.Mask down cheek tufts - Yellow eyes (Custom Ink)
The raccoon with the ghost costume and the Raccoon with the holy liturgy may be the same raccoon or different raccoons and may be any of the raccoons on this list.

So we likely have anywhere between 3 and 5 raccoons (plus the 2 kits).
Aaaaand that's all I got.

Interesting new characters for the Christmas' story arc. What a bad way to wake up, call it "spirit". :P Light on one candle won't help, change that newspaper sheet with something better on next occasion. Looks like each species has its own festivities, borrowed from humans and changed much enough...
At first Custom Ink looked a raccoon because of design and colors, but she (yeah, she, notice the little accent of eyelashes, just two darker pixels per each) lacks of their distinctive face mask. So, what animal is she?

Looking ahead to see if and how the main characters could get involved in this story. ;)

Custom Ink is a raccoon, despite the mask not circling the eyes.
Here is a very specific example of a very similar looking animal to Custom Ink, and the tags include "raccoons".

To help your list along, Rick said that we've definitely seen CI before, so she shouldn't be counted as her own entry. I assume that since he said we'd seen her, that she isn't one of the two obscured ones and so she's probably #4 like you suspect

In all the style changes the eye color never changed (tell me if I'm wrong with this), so we can strike out all raccoons with non yellow eyes.

There are only three coons left:
- the Opener of Ways guide Image
- the kid Image
- the one reading for the kids Image

Which one matches Custom Ink best? Image

Oh, and we also have the ghost... Image But we can't say anything else about the appearance of the ghost. So she'll be it for sure. ;)

Anyone else find it very stupid of Jessica to start a fire inside a tree? Sure it's for a candle, but none the less it's in a tree with paper and stuff inside it. It would be like smoking while you work with flammable liquids.

1) Openermas is going to be MY favorite festivity.
2) Have you noticed the upturned vase? A guy on youtube tried to show that you could have some domestic heating thanks to a vase under which a candle was lit, so to use it as a rough fireplace. I guess that Jesse is using the vase in that way. And that the candle may serve for emergency lightning.

I'm surprised someone caught that. It's a flower-pot heater, and it works a bit like a masonry fireplace. Only it's powered by candles and not wood.

I'm surprised I never caught that, myself. Nice find, Val!

I figured she was just using the stand-alone candles for heat, but the upside down pot I presumed was used for some sort of miniature fridge for food that had to be kept frozen. (Given how cold it looks for her already, I'm sure it ain't hard, but I figured she's just taking extra precautions)

(Without getting TOO religious here :D)
What was gained through the resurrection, (Opening of ways in this instance) was that humankind could now gain access to celestial beings (being God and Pete) by simply acknowledging their existence and interference in daily life. The one who provided the way in both cases; Jesus (Bible version) and Zach (Housepets version). Both of which happen to have a late December holiday marking their introduction.
These are undoubtedly coincidences, but I also happen to know that Rick is man of faith. So who knows? We might be witnessing the Gospel Of Zach Arbelt.
Let's just hope Zach isn't crucified by the ferals. That would just suck.
Hedronal wrote:I do have the question though, how does one get the name Custom Ink?
Custom Ink is an online t-shirt printing shop/service that caters to large events and organizations, as well as the average designer.
I hear commercials for them on the radio all the time.
That's ALSO undoubtedly a coincidence ;)
