When has anything been stated as to Zachs window visibility? That part is possible, but I sincerely doubt that he would have noticed the sound of the wind hitting her what with the noise from it colliding with everything else. Him choosing this night as one to wait up for the diary theif on would be a nice coincidence in line with his prophet status, but given the weather it's also a fair guess on his part that the thief would wait for a safer time for travel, though then again they might also seek an answer as to when the snow will end. (Or an intervention for it)
