Yay first post ever!

Hope for being wrong, but I see a more cynical resolution. Zach realizes that even though he's not a deity, people expect things of him, and gives Jessica the medicine to take back anyway, whether it perpetuates the falsehood or not. Jessica accepts the gift, 'cuz y'know, whatever gets the cub healed, who cares where it came from? But when Jessica returns, the Opener is hailed for providing a miracle. Because she realizes that whatever gives people hope must be a good thing, she more or less remains mum about the fact that Zach's not a deity, just to keep the spirit of hope going, even though it's false hope. Broad, overarching lies keep everyone happy and life worth living, Merry Openermas!

I hate being cynical and right, so c'mooonnnn, Rick! Prove me wrong, PLEEZE!

(and just for saying, I totally ship Jessica Rabbit too, just don't see it coming to pass XP)

I never imagined this comic would have a well written atheist character. I found Jessica to be too much of a caricature at first but this last strip added some nuance to her beliefs. I'm eager to see where this goes.

Ya know, i'm not quite sure what to think here, i mean, i he helps Jes, he';s screwed, if he doesn't she'll hate him for it and he'll be screwed.

I know what all you are saying aboutjess and oh well he should still help her; well yeah he should, but he's also not seeing how Jes can help him, if he can convince her of the truth, she might be HIS savior!
i wonder if he can just show her, kinda like this :)
(yeah I know he cant, but it would be nice for him huh?)

As one who's stumbled along an opossum skeleton in his back yard before, they gots canine teeth like you wouldn't believe. Behind them is a bit of a gap, then the premolars and molars start. Plus there's about six or so incisors per jaw (I might be off, but that's what I recall).

Expert credentials: Living in the middle of nowhere in a semi-wooded rural region where we have opossi, and examining the skull thereof. In layman's terms, "OO, what's that?! *picks it up*"

It was arbitrary in the first place. It'd make more sense to tag locations.

Maybe I'll bug Diss to do it . . .

I don't see Jessica as an atheist, her "Where are the miracles?" outburst shows she wants to believe in something.
She appears more to be an disillusioned ex believer and those are the most skeptical.

Aww, poor Jessica. Reminds me of my own crisis of faith years ago; you want to believe so you become so cynical that you wall off your heart, but deep down you pray that you're wrong. She's so sweet.

As another poster said, I can see her being Zach's confidant among the ferals, someone who knows he isn't the prophet but yet keeps the myth going because it gives hope to so many. She may even convince him to play the role, if not embrace it.

I really hope she's going to be a recurring character, and not a one-arc-and-done one. There's a lot of potential for her

Nobody likes Rufus.
Rufus was a nice guy, but had no issues or troubles shown, which is what makes a character more empathizable.

And so we begin to see the true nature of Jessica's need.

I have been in this situation, in both capacities! I prefer not to fall into this sort of thing again.

I think Zach is going to lay some deep wisdom down soon... just a feeling on my part.

The situation is getting frustrating for you, Jessica, because of your little convintion that you may be wrong in not believing to the Opener, making you feel different in the bad way than the others. It's not being so for Zach, as seems: his sincerity and sort of indifference is making the thing less pressing than how much it should be for him. :P
Why are you showing to be so cynical when it isn't making you feel good? However, you're saying so right things, Jessica, it's hard don't agree with you. :|

Agreed. Although I can see him being a great supporting character in some future arc.
The thing about Rufus, is that he's not really a developed character yet, as compared to Jessica in this Christmas arc. From the 7 strips we've seen her in, we already have a clear idea of her personality and goals, and this is important as it helps us understand and sympathize for the character, therefore, making it easier for Rick to re-use Jessica, as we already know so much about her, and constant explanations are kept at a minimal level.

However, I don't see Jessica appearing as a major character again in the near future, maybe she'll appear as part of the woodlands troop, but nothing more than that. Idk, I just feel that her story is kinda done (or is it too early to say that?)

I've said pretty much the same thing and I'm an atheist. But whichever way one reads it I'm still glad to see some depth to the character.
