So could someone remind me, what "penalties" is Kitsune referring to? Simply no longer having the powers that come with being an avatar, right?
So Tarot looses her psychic abilities, Sabrina her supernatural abilities, and King turns back into Joel? (Or does King's transformation not count as one of his avatar powers...?)

Humorously, I thought for a moment that Pete would summon in all of his past potential avatars in a desperate plea to get someone to fight for him. That won't work. X3

10 minutes to do whatever you gotta do to not become mortal. I can actually see Pete attempting a persuasive deal for both King and Bailey, but they ultimately turn it down with Pete in the end ultimately trying to brute force his way out of it somehow.

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking. It's not a bad theory either. Out of all of the possible outcomes, this seems the most likely, BUUUTTT it's Rick comic and we don't know for sure. He can do what he wants with it. I just can't wait for Monday now!

One entire lifetime as mortals. Because they BOTH need a slice of humility pie.

Glad I'm not the only one thinking along these lines. Pete and Dragon's feud's probably seriously disrupted whatever campaign the Great Kitsune had planned, plus he had to come up with a way to keep whoever else is in their gaming group amused while those two battled it out. Unplanned party rifts are a pain for a DM to deal with, he's probably been itching for a chance to cut their egos down to size for a while now.

Well, GK is the game-master, not a player - he's on the side of the NPCs (well, technically, he's not supposed to have a side, if it's DnD-esque ethics. But it's still fun to watch players lose to entirely legitimate challenges. I mean seriously, all they had to for one of them to win was NOT cause their avatars to run away; It was essentially PvP, a TPK wasn't supposed to be possible (mind you, this isn't a real TPK, but all the players lost all their current characters on a likely-permanent basis, so it's close enough))
Besides, like AN said in the quote beneath, he's probably getting a bit tired of the PvP duel - subjective time is one thing, but he's the game-master; In order to be anywhere near competent at that, he's gotta 'process' everything that happens at the gaming table.

I dunno if there even are any other people in the group - a two-player group isn't unheard of in DnD, and this is a game with far better-defined 'challenge ratings'.
If there are, they might be temporary; People who like the concept of the campaign, but who aren't interested enough to stick around when the campaign ends.
But party rifts and general PvP is annoying to most DMs - even people who run 'Arena' campaigns, which are essentially all PvP all the time, tend to complain in various OOC threads about how the players drive them up the walls.

And yeah, he does seem like he's perhaps a bit on the smug side, so he's probably been hoping they'd screw up badly enough for him to be given a chance to gloat.

I'm curious about how Ms. Three-heads is doing, though.

Currently she's my pen-favorite of those in that room (you know, like penultimate, but with favorites? Point is, I prefer Bailey, but THEN there's Cerberus)
I used to like King, Tarot, and Sabrina, but Tarot's getting rather grumpy, I'm not sure about Sabrina's various moodswings in this arc, and King... Didn't really convey to me why it is that he cares about breaking up the fight. Did he think Bailey might get lasting damage? It didn't seem like it. Seemed far too bloodless for a 'serious' fight, and more like a fight you'd see in a fight-related competition with rules and a general 'please don't actually kill each other, alright?' attitude.
Besides, King's King, he's not the nicest person out there - though he's trying to be better, nowadays.

Or, if we're going with the 'she's a player' idea (which I think is wrong, but mreh), she might only have gotten together with him because he was in the same gaming group.
Maybe not consciously, but if you get together with the first person to show interest in you (and I find too many 'nerds' do), and you only talk to people when gaming with them, it ends up having the same result as if you started off specifically wanting to date someone in the group.
