Keene seems de-light-ed with Zach's ability! *bricked*

I love Keene's face in that last panel! He looks like he's trying his hardest not to laugh!

And Jess missed the miracle. Although I am worried by the low esteem Zach seems to hold for himself.

Holding tight to the lady he does(n't) love
and giving voice to his vicious self-doubt,
Zach bitterly accepts the accusation
that he has the power to get them out.
Without hearing Pete lost his power,
Zach lately learns to see the light -
a trick Jess has just missed seeing;
she missed her wimp winning the fight.
She missed seeing his great, glowing, foot,
she missed his furious, furred, face.
He'll probably downplay her 'dead' reaction;
he'll help her gather her scattered grace.

Well, at least Keene has (rightfully) proven him that he isn't useless.
Though I am puzzled: How the heck did Zack retain his power, and in such measure, since Dragon can't even back up Sabrina's and Tarot's power anymore? Hmmm....

If I recall from "Temple Crashers", Sabrina said something about a boost and augment to their skills as classes, so since he was once a cleric perhaps he managed to bear some of those skills still.

I love the way Zach is holding Jess, and I bet he is glad she fainted and couldn't see him. Just imagine how much teasing he would get over that.

I wonder what will happen with Zach as the opener. Better have something happen, otherwise what is the point of a comic.

Jess is really good at playing dead.
I saw her in that last panel and immediately thought "wow, Jess looks pretty ******* dead..."

Your right Rick has improved amazingly over the years. These last few strips with Zach and Jess covered in mud in a forest at night have been magnificently done.

Sometimes I wonder if Tarot's strange prophecy was or wasn't about the day Zack has a nervous breakdown... I used to think it was the end of the game, but now I call that into question for two reasons.
1. The game is ~~afoot~~ over. (dodges bricks)
2. Zack apparently has some sort of access to latent power. What if he were to use the rest of it all at once, perhaps unintentionally?

Cookie monster was Keene's code name for him. Because he's a serious ferret and code names are serious business.

Also, Keene is looking more human than I've ever seen him, particularly in the last panel. I guess it takes the threat of being eaten by a gargoyle to get him to show an ordinary emotion.

Keene just thought correctly about you to block the gargoyle, but there has also been a bit of luck in this. Nice one, Keene.

So, did that "Kck-Kykck" sound mean that the Gargoyle is back to stone, or is it being destroyed by the light? If either, it's a shame. I was really looking forward to seeing the Opener of Ways having an Army of Gargoyles at his command.

Also, why do I suddenly have this image of Pete Nomming on a jar full of Cookies now?
