That rule was only for the kind of avatar Pete was originally trying to get with his temple trap, his "Dream Sunderer".

King was a different kind of character. He was a "Dark Paladin" powered up by discontent. That's why he kept making him miserable.

I've rested in that pose, myself, just sit down in a chair and lean over the arm rest. Feels nice when relaxing, though falling asleep in that position tends to lead to a regretful awakening.
