The culmination of his most audacious and potentially risky scheme yet, and Keene couldn't even manage to be fully awake for it? He's been watching, he should've been ready and waiting for them!

Not that it would've made much difference, I suppose. With Tarot incoming as Max is reading the scroll, even if Keene had been fully alert he wouldn't have had time to do anything before impact.

I just came to a sudden thought, what if tarot and Keene become Pete and Dragon?

Also, it's quite possible for both of them to ascend if they fall into that mana pool

Eh, I very much doubt that. Tarot worked for Dragon. If Tarot is Dragon, then there were effectively two independent copies of Dragon's spirit occupying the same time and space, and that sounds like something that there might be some celestial restrictions on. As for Keene and Pete, their personalities just don't match at all. They're both conniving, but Pete is 100% self-serving and maybe even a bit malicious. For all Keene's scheming, his intentions and goals are ultimately altruistic, and he doesn't get a kick out of making other people miserable.

When we first saw Dragon, she used Tarot to physically manifest. I would think that's the idea.

Heh, why do I now get the feeling that Tarot wanting to 'Save the World', just may have doomed it? Basically, a Self-Fulfilling Prophecy?

Not saying she's evil, just saying that she's so focused on it, that she's gotten a bit too short sighted.

One: I also said it was Keene, and gave the logic behind it. And Two: Keene could have left Pronouciations on the Scroll as well

I am reeeeeeeeaally intrigued by Keene's sleeping cap, Buster. Hats are not trivial in temple. Is Breel up to something or just getting careless? Cute only counts for so much in Pete-World....

Even in the original illustrations, only one uses headwear, and is not pajama one. All I can think about is “Sleep” Kirby or maybe a “Dreamer” class

Extrapolating from what I can see, it looks like the scroll may have also teleported Max, if that's the case he's probably where Keene was. (Or he could just be off-panel, it's difficult to judge angles in this room.)

TBH i am sorta hoping for Keene to win and it be the start of something good (if perhaps with consequences along the way). Tarot being forced into disillusionment could be a real turning point in her characters story and could lead her to become a better person. Suddenly she would have to deal with the fact that she isn't always right about things and that her way could end up being very bad...... By that same taken those points could also be achieved by her winning and Kitsune appearing to say "congratulations Tarot animals will not be equal now... and its all your fault".

I mean in all practicality this could go a dozen different ways regardless of who "wins" but i am hoping for some real character growth as a result

I'm beginning to think the final outcome is probably going to be closer to a draw, with nobody able to claim a full victory or loss. Sabrina and Tarot will probably succeed in draining most of the mana well, but Keene will probably make off with a fair portion himself, but not enough to fully realize his goals.

I mean, let's be brutally honest here. As much as some of us would like him to, Keene probably can't be allowed to win conclusively here. As others have pointed out, even if it doesn't spell the end of the world, it probably would spell the end of the comic. At the same time, for Sabrina and Tarot to completely drain the well would mean one of the longest arcs in Housepets history would have all been, basically, for nothing. Somebody is going to get something out of this. Surely.

The best (narrative) outcome would be for Keene to maybe get a bit of the mana, but mostly get in his own right all of the gold (or almost all of the gold) that it turns out Pete had borrowed from Henry Milton in the first place. That would neuter the threat from Stewie, and let him go back to wacky super-rich-weasel shenanigans.

Eeeeh I'm PRETTY sure that's a blatant indication that he has at least gotten hit by a train before. It's an oddly specific thing to stop at a moment for and then say a past tense like "any more". Even if he wasn't killed by it, he has been hurt by a train before, but how many cases of being harmed by a train yeild in the person not dying?
...okay a few but we're talking cartoon tropes here.
