OK, I'm sold on the danger now.

Do you have any idea how random and undisciplined the average persons thoughts are?!

"It's dangerous for mortals to touch that much mana!"

Hm, how does Breel technically factor into that, then, sanding out in the middle of it like he is? I mean, he may not be mortal now, but he isn't pure celestial either. His is still the soul of a mortal. Could the mana react to him?

Also,

Now that we have a wide shot, it looks like I might have been right, Max is no longer in the chamber.

Doesn't count. Neither of the other teams are in the picture either.

Of course, Max waking up in Keene's bed would be funny.

Uhh... I think Maxwell has already been doused. He was standing at the steps, and the Mana obviously has spilled over it.

Honestly, I wonder what Peanut would wish for? Maxwell is blindingly obvious, and Grape is the same... But we don't really know what Peanut would wish for or Dream of for this... And if he's badly affected by what Tarot's done, what would happen?

If it's the Nerds... Well, They would want to Live like what they're cosplaying as. Lester makes me dread it. Joey... I am iffy, same with Squeak. Dallas got the boot... Though I suspect it was only because Karishad just wanted to help Tarot. If Tarot wasn't there, he wouldn't have thrown Dallas out.

It's funny, Karishad is literally the only one who makes Tarot act not as serious, such as one pre-christmas comic, he gave Tarot a piggyback ride... And she was smiling and acting her 'age', compared to everyone else where she keeps an air of snootiness and mystery.

Doesn't help that one art I saw from Rick, involving Tarot? It showed Karishad and Tarot, on a flying Carpet... With Karishad panicking and trying not to unravel the Carpet, while Tarot looks like she's having the time of her life.

I'm taking that to mean it doesn't actually react to celestials or the non-living. I'm pretty sure neither Pete nor Dragon directly used it, rather it was meant for their avatars who would only use it as directed by them.

I'd have to side with Bandit1990 in the assumption that Max isn't there anymore. Tarot was in mid-lunge when Keene got summoned, and she was aiming at Max. If he had still been there, she would've hit him instead of Keene.

Come to think of it, if that scroll was indeed a swap-places scroll as I'm assuming, then that would've been some really clever devilry on Keene's part. In setting the precedent for the scroll's necessity with the deployed teams, he would've made reasonably sure that whoever actually got to the well and used the scroll would be neatly ported away to ensure they couldn't actually use the well if it occurred to them to do so.

It's now possible for Tarot's prophecy to be fulfilled for realz! Soul-shattering, anyone? (https://www.housepetscomic.com/comic/20 ... ing-again/)

As an aside, I expect a little indulgence on Rick's part at this point -- comic authors don't get many chances to radically alter their universe. Hopefully he uses it responsibly. @o@

Also, while I'm posting for once, Welsh's poetry is fun. I'm just AMAZED that you have done one for virtually every comic since who knows when!?

I'm not sure exactly how long they can brought back to life, but having everyone revived would be a interesting twist.

Cosmic level hazmat spill ... not exactly cream of mushroom soup.
My graphic resolution is unclear about Breel's halo ... But he's gonna be "thinking", Celestial or not.
Max still has the scroll, right? Or is that just a handi-wipe now?

Yeah, I too find the Tarot-Karishad friendship intriguing and sweet ... he makes her laugh.

...and Keene still has his nightcap.

Does anyone else think they're all going to gang up against Tarot pretty soon? She's been bossing them around around and speaking down to everyone like...well, a female dog. I'm seriously miffed that no one in the cast hasn't just slapped her silly. She deserves it. Even Peanut is had it with her. I suggest having Peanut shout, "Consider yourself dumped! I'm not putting up with your attitude anymore!"

With that much mana, you probably could create a new reality based on the fictitious Pridelands. I wonder if Res has the clarity of mind to pull that off.

In Keene's defence, he's a ferret. Ferrets are capable of focusing on one thing, to the exclusion of all else. They are also very good at only hearing what they want to hear. And even only noticing the things the way they want them to be, completely ignoring anything else like it doesn't even exist (and that isn't even an exaggeration. I still remember one of my ferrets wanting to explore upstairs despite a curious cat poking and proding him. He was going to explore, and that was that. So he did. As far as he was concerned, the cat, who was right there poking and proding and occasionally giving him a nip did not exist.).

Keene is focused on his wish, and he just heard that touching the mana has the potential to cause anything he's thinking about to become reality, therefore he must touch it, AND NOTHING ELSE MATTERS.

Ironically, this single mindedness probably means that if anyone can "control" the mana it will be him. The biggest danger is a stray thought wreaking havoc, but ferrets do not have stray thoughts. They're just too stubborn.

But there's one thing that can distract him, which Heaven sent down for this purpose. Breel. He clearly loves her, even if he's not realized it yet. And it goes both ways. If only they weren't separated by death. Whoops! A stray thought! Oh, and one wish per customer!

It would be amusing if neither of them noticed this until Breel accidentally slips and falls and smacks her nose on the ground. Nothing like a bit of pain and a bloody nose to suddenly bring the realization that something is wrong since she shouldn't be feeling pain at all!

As GameCobra noted, Breel doesn't seem to have a halo any more (unless it's lost in the glare of the mana). So maybe he wasn't so content being a spirit as he wanted Rock to think.

Breel's a very touchy-feely, lovey sort, but he's male and formerly a mortal like Rufus.

However, a couple of questions for you Housepets! scholars ....

1. Since Celestial can shape-shift, assume they can gender switch back and forth?
2. Summer and Spring ... Fox's fan-girls ... are they former mortals like Breel and Rufus or "residential" Celestials who never were mortals (like, say, Cerberus)?

Regards.

I wouldn't be overly surprised if he's going for the mana pool. And if he gets to it, I have a headcanon that he's going to wish to be more buff, but in a "be careful what you wish for" twist, he's going to be turned into a black panther.
And that means peets...

I can't blame Keene for this time, it's your butt's fault, Tarot. :P ;) Really? Anything passes on own mind might happen? It can realize any own desire? :o Eheheh, you hadn't to say that, Tarot, obviously Keene wants to dip in it... :P Yeah, Breel's halo disappeared, after have been wet by the mana... Tarot said that's dangerous for mortals, but Breel is/was an angel, instead. :) So, due to the mana pool, he returned alive? :D

Poor Keene. He's seeing his life's work go up in smoke here, and not just his, but his father's to. Tarot inadvertantly mentioned what might be one last way to salvage everything, even though anyone who stopped a moment to consider it would rapidly realize it's a very bad idea. But Keene *hasn't* stopped to think about it, and with everyone in the room fighting and Tarot there and things hanging in the balance, he doesn't have *time* to stop to think about, even if ferrets were predisposed to do that sort of thing (they aren't). The situation is desperate.

Still, it would have never worked. Keene still hasn't realized there's no magical way to fix the world, it takes hard work and devotion, and even then most people fail even to make slight progress, or else things would have been fixed a long time ago.

Keene's a realist though, at least to an extent. He knows that putting an end to conflict and pain is a hopeless goal, but maybe he can even the playing field out so that everyone gets a fair shot. So many animals and even humans never had a chance. He himself was nearly there when he was in the pet store, alone, after his mother died, and but for an incredible stroke of luck when Mr. Milton found him, there's no telling where he could have ended up. But the vast majority of animals never get such a chance, so he wants to make darn sure he doesn't waste it.

So what will he do after all this? He despaired once of his goals in heaven and nearly gave up, but I don't see this happening again. Will he have the sense to scale back his ambitions a little bit? Maybe he'll have a new person there to help guide him *coughBreel*.

Or maybe he'll realize that Dragon had a temple out there too, with its own mana pool.
