Back in the genesis era of Housepets!, the "Barn Cats" appeared in the context of (a) apparently being females and (b) being attracted to a very hormone-rattled Peanut. T'would not have been unreasonable to assume (as Valerio did in his marvelous fanfic) that they had some backstory with ol'Roof.

But conjecture is just that, and that doesn't elaborate much on his smooching Maxwell. Grape may very well demand an explanation for us all.

No proof other than the cast page mentioning that he mightbe into cats. How deep it was couldn't be elaborated on.

So again, (apologies if this did go through and I just can't see my own post.)

The last panel still does not show and end card, a small END or FIN. This suggests we still have some wrap up to do. But I wonder where that is?

We've seen Breel's closure
Seen the Heavenly Huskies' closure
Seen Dallas and the Nerds' closure
Seen Rez and Grape get closure, mostly, at the bus stop.
Seen Rufus and his team get closure, even if questions did arise
Tarot got her closure with Kitsune even if she didn't like it
Steward and Kari's closure came with them getting residency in the tree house

So who is left?

I suspect if may be Thomas and Sophia.

Hm...maybe we should take this literally? Like, don't read into it, it was literally nothing. Maybe this is simply a sign that we worry and get anxious over the smallest details of the comic, and that sometimes things just just happen, and we should relax, and appriciate the comic as a whole, not the simplest details....

Rufus, with his appreciation of felines spent some time with Max's mother. She always told Max about the kind country gentleman of the canine persuasion. Rufus always saw Max as a surrogate son sometimes helping from behind the scene, but always with credit from Maxie's mother.

So being that Rufus means he is the Rufus who made Max the tom he is today. The kiss was fatherly to the son he wished he'd been around for.

his advice on peanut winning over grape seemed too straight forward to be one of his pranks and had to come from somewhere, and the way the cats treated peanut implied they were comfortable flirting with canines. 2+2.

Hm, when was Sabrina's History of the World written? That stated that pets could see up to 40. In this case, the most recent should be accepted as canon, though for a long while I've been holding to 40 because of that.

Yours wins out by about 18 months. "dogs and cats [can] live up to forty years" is the standing canon. Rick Griffin said it is explained elsewhere why Sabrina can address the audience and can compare and contrast the worlds, but I've never been able to find it. Did he never get to writing that part or am I that bad at looking for stuff?

He's a merle cattle dog. They look about 90 when they're still puppies.

Example on Wikipedia of a blue merle border collie pup.
