Also it’s nice to see that Rick does read this forum and comments when the spirit moves him. But now I’m more confused, are we still arguing about Gale’s gender?

To the first:
Dad Jokes
To the second: It's a gender neutral spelling, so from what I've seen in the past....Probably.

Yeah, I never liked that strip. Oooey Goooey Lovey King is not a good look for him. Plus that hot dog vendor’s just a jerk. No one tells my King to Shutup even if he is embarrassing himself. He’s had a hard life.
Well as far as the arguing goes I needed something to do this weekend to avoid working on my novel.

Where are you guys seeing the tags? Because I can't find the name Gale on the comic.
Douglas isn't my real name, but because of a name block put on me by a higher-order being known as Djinni, I can't say my real name.
Re: 2018/07/06 - The Hills Have Eyes
Not sure if the cat is male or female...all i know is as long as no creepy kids ask you to play with them, there is no banjo playing or no Seth Green, they should all be alright.

Click on the title of the comic. You'll be able to see the tags in the dedicated link.Douglas Collier wrote:Where are you guys seeing the tags? Because I can't find the name Gale on the comic.

The eyelashes should give it away, but, after all the gender shenanigans before, I can’t be 100% sure.

It would be funny for them to assume Gale is female then Galenis like “I’m a guy you jerks.” Oh wait, that was in the guest strip. Someone beat Rick to it.
If nothing else this is a nice change to the usual storylines. A real wild predator. An exotic animal. I don’t think we’ve seen one before without it being a joke. The wolves gave up predatory status a long time ago.

Unless Gale is a paleontologist enjoying a lollipop because there isn't a cardboard box handy.... loved the tape, Argent. My cat was a tireless enemy of all things cardboard (especially cereal...Tony the Tiger just enraged him).

Pretty sure Gale is a gal. She showed up after Miles suggested Poncho out seek a cat. Keep in mind this is right after Poncho indicated he doesn't want to cross breed with a domestic dog. From this we know Poncho likes girls, there's no cross breeding without the breeding part. So if she shows up after it is suggested Poncho seek a cat for a mate then the evidence is strongly in favor of female.Douglas Collier wrote:The eyelashes should give it away, but, after all the gender shenanigans before, I can’t be 100% sure.
Re: 2018/07/06 - The Hills Have Eyes
BTW, Ponch: Technically, it’s not cross-breeding for a wolf to snuggle with a dog.

Re: 2018/07/06 - The Hills Have Eyes
That would be the obvious scenario given traditional plot and story telling and with what we know now. But will Rick follow the path that appears before us or will this just be a red herring to throw us off? He could just as easily make Gale a male and throw in a female wolf for Poncho (not unlike throwing him a bone).TeflonCougar wrote:Pretty sure Gale is a gal. Think about this. We have Gale Cougar watching them. He/she stalks them, probably going after King most likely do to his history of camping, attacks only to be driven off by a hot wolf warrior like something you would see on DeviantArt. I mean with feathers in her fur, bow on her back, eyes that put the sun to shame, and a fearless expression that melts The iciest hearts.

Canis lupus familiaris is a subspecies of canis lupus, along with canis lupus dingo. They are still arguing whether canis aureus and canis latrans are also subspecies of canis lupus. Canis rufus is now believed to be a lupus/latrans cross.

Canis lupus dingo = dingoArgent wrote:Canis lupus familiaris is a subspecies of canis lupus, along with canis lupus dingo. They are still arguing whether canis aureus and canis latrans are also subspecies of canis lupus. Canis rufus is now believed to be a lupus/latrans cross.
Canis aureus = jackal
Canis latrans = coyotes
Canis Rufus = red wolf
The more you learn...
Technically by definition it would be cross breeding: hybridize (a breed, species, or variety) with another.
Re: 2018/07/06 - The Hills Have Eyes
I was going to say that's wrong, but apparently they've decided to split canis aureus into canis aureus and canis anthus, the latter now called the golden wolf.fenrirblack wrote:Canis aureus = jackal
So let me correct that:
Canis lupus familiaris is a subspecies of canis lupus, along with canis lupus dingo. They are still arguing whether canis anthus and canis latrans are also subspecies of canis lupus. Canis rufus is now believed to be a lupus/latrans cross.
Re: 2018/07/06 - The Hills Have Eyes
I remember an article that said there are no longer true wolves, all "wolves" are mixes of domestic dogs, feral dogs and coyotes.Argent wrote:Canis lupus familiaris is a subspecies of canis lupus, along with canis lupus dingo. Canis lupus arctos is a subspecies of canis lupus.
That's just saying all wolves are wolves.Yamitora1 wrote:I remember an article that said there are no longer true wolves, all "wolves" are mixes of domestic dogs, feral dogs and coyotes.

HAHA! Not really sure if that's an actual Savestate reference, but if it is, I think we now know Harvey's origin story.RandomGeekNamedBrent wrote:Also might I add that I'm loving the Savestate cameo. What's Harvey doing hanging out with Gale?
20th century fox? Given that this is the year 2020, that fox must be dead by now. Sadface! : (

This has definitely been an interesting discussion. We learned a lot about zoology from this strip.
