Wolfs name themselves and cubs can change their name on a whim. Going on the assumption Poncho named himself after his poncho that would mean Gale and the wolfs interacted at least until Poncho stole his poncho. Whether he got it as part if his right of adulthood of for a different reason has yet to be determined.

considering northstar's name is a byproduct of obsessing over martial arts themed anime, and we've already seen that he (she? i'm still not clear on that...) is clever enough to translate videogame skills to the real world despite the inherent unrealism, i doubt this is over just yet.
