I can't speak for everyone, but some people find it common sense to be able to make stuff with your own two hands. Others make take it up because it means being part of a work environment with people that share the same beliefs and values as them. Another reason is if the job has overlap with skills or activities they find enjoyable or do for fun in their own time. Some people are simply lucky enough to be able to make a living doing something they enjoy.

If I could make a living by being on a computer for 24/7 and doing random stuff, that would be fine for me. XD
