I'm with LC here. Yes, it would be unusual for pets to carry weapons (heck, even in HP! the police dogs have no weapons, I think) but this is a pirate ship so it's an unusual set of circumstances. And the pets can always hide the weapons or give them to their owners if anyone official comes to inspect the ship. And since the Impudence is undermanned, I think Palgrave would be thankful for all arms during a fight.
LovingCorgi wrote: Oh one last thing cause I'm confused. Where is everyone. I don't mean to be a stickler but blacks is nearby tiki last I checked like right next to him. Sorry I'm just severely confused.
See MrNeon and Hotep's replies for that question. They've got it right.

Carrying weapons, yeh. Owning them, like they have some kind of right to them?

Well, who owns the squeaky bone? The owner who paid for it or the dog who's claimed it?
I think even if the pets don't officially own the weapons, they would consider them as belonging to them. And just like an owner would consider the squeaky bone as belonging to the dog, I think the owners would consider the weapons as owned by the pets, even if on paper they belong to the owner.
It's human nature and I think it's all relative. It's a minor detail anyway. Tiki certainly isn't the only pet on the ship with weapons. Even the rats improvise them with whatever they can find.

Hey guys. Um, I'm not sure how to say this....... I don't want to play in 17CF anymore. I've just grown kinda bored of it. Sorry.
Play The Hayseed Knight. This isn’t self promotion, I just really like the game.

You ever realize that the two longest pieces of literature in existence are both fanfics? Weird right?

Make something happen. Introduce a new challenge. The lookout's seen a Spanish warship on the horizon and the town has to prepare for them, like, make sure there's no evidence of dodgy activities about. Including hostile questioning about whether any of the ships in port might cause problems. Think something up.

Another fight may be too soon. Especially if the ships still in repair. I could see an english or french military ship being spotted however. A scout ship to the fleet patrolling the waters or so

A Spanish military ship wouldn't mean a fight, it would mean hiding evidence that Castilo Pato was being used by pirates.

Well, I think this guys has it. The darn Pirate stole it from me! I'm going to steal his rum!

Also, I want to ask if you'll accept me if I want to re-join you guys

EDIT: Alright, time to show you ladies and gentle-furs the possible new addition to 17 CF (this time more permanent then before)

And without further ado, I present to you the MCV... whoops! Wrong page!

*flips over a few pages*

Ah, there he is:

Name: Vitar

Species: Gray wolf

Gender: Male

Age: around 21 (6 human years)

Neighborhood: 17CF

Appearance:
Lean, strong body, grey fur and yellow eyes. His mane is black, short and well kept.
Has a few sets of clothes* he like to keep up in good shape, which he keeps in a small wooden chest.
[Set 1: Black Tricorn hat, black long leather coat, white shirt, black leather belt, black pants that don’t restrict his movement; (his more “official” look)
Set 2: Red head wrap, white shirt, red sash and black pants (wider on the leg parts for less-restricted movement), leg-wraps/paw-wraps; (his more “everyday” look)
Set 3: Black head wrap, black cloth mask, black shirt, black belt and black pants (wider on the leg parts for less-restricted movement), black paw-wraps (his “on the job” look).]
Other than that he carries a normal brown traveler bag and a jar of dirt (in the chest).

Personality:
Generally nice and calm, though always ready to jump into action or strike a good deal if the conditions allow it.
He never really holds grudges and even if he does it will only be if someone steals something from him.
Likes to stare at the sea and the stars and like every wolf, he likes to stare at the Moon.

Background:
Vitar is one of those charming thieves that always manage to avoid the law even if it is by the skin of his teeth.
He was wrongly accused and exiled from his colony at the age of 8 (barely above 2 human years). With nowhere else to go, he quickly ended up on the streets of the closest large town. It was only a luck that he was found by a group of thieves with a good enough hearts to take him under their protection before something happened to him. Soon they realized how agile he was and after they offered Vitar to teach him to become a thief like them.
With no other option but street thug, Vitar eagerly accepted and the teaching began one next day. Still young, the young wolf showed quite the talent, which made the thieves happy. In the short years after he became the pride of the group, for he polished his skills only to become one of the best thieves in two towns… however successful he was in his job, the group forgot one thing – to teach him how to fight and use his knifes for more than cutting purses and meals. That little mistake on their side almost cost Vitar’s life when he was caught by a group of head-hunters, only to be saved by a former member of the group – a Wolf duelist… who also ended up being the long lost (and thought to be dead) father of Vitar - Vitanum. Once Vitar and Vitanum returned to the group’s hideout, everyone celebrated and on the next day, Vitanum began teaching his son how to use his daggers and a cutlass, as well as a few lessons in archery with crossbows. (he’s taking his time to shoot and uses them only in the most complex missions)
For year and a half, Vitar was living with the group and his father, until six months ago when the law caught them up by surprise in their hideout. The only survived and free member of the group was
Vitar and only thanks to his father who managed to seal the escape tunnel behind his boy before the law enforcers caught up to him.
For six months after that moment, Vitar is on the run – never staying for long in one place, never taking the time to make a new friend, until the moment he ended up in Castillo Pato under the name of the Thief in green (green pants, shirt and (cloth) mask, brown vest and paw-wraps), where his talents would either prove invaluable or…

Other Info:
Relatively good fighter when it comes to his daggers and cutlass.
His aim with the crossbow however is not as keen, hence he rarely uses it and when he does he takes his sweet time to aim.
His knowledge of hunting is limited, but he has some experience with fishing.
Good flute player, but he keeps losing his instruments.
In every town he stays for more than a week, he finds himself a hideout, where he keeps his chest with clothes and other small valuables.
He managed to steal some recipes from an old (al)chemist (from somewhere else) for small bombs with sleeping gas and scent covering ointment. He has a few bottles of the latter, which he snatched along with the recipes.

SPECIAL:
S - 7
P - 6
E - 6
C - 5
I - 6
A - 7
L – 5

color: 0000FF

What does everyone else think?
Argent wrote:What will the Spanish Navy think about armed pets?
These are dangerous times and Palgrave is a smart man and under-crewed. I'm sure he can talk his way out of it if worst comes to worst.
I hardly think one Spanish ship is going to cause too much of a fight anyway, given how many ships they'd be up against and given that the town has the advantage of height. The biggest threat would be if the Spanish ship went and came back with the rest of the navy so that's why the town ahs to put on a good show.

I think a wolf in the tropics wearing that many clothes is gonna overheat!

Hush, you're not even in this RP.

As to the ship, if it's a full ship of the line it could have four times the guns of the Impudence, and a full strength fully trained crew. Or it could be a lighter ship, but part of a fleet just over the horizon.

Also, consider that the navy could be using birds as spies and messengers. Speaking of birds, there's one we haven't heard of for a while.

Yes, but remember, the Impudence isn't the only ship moored at Castillo Pato and even with a full navy they'd be hard-pressed to take a town up a sheer cliff. Regardless, I can't see them attacking unless they're sure something is up.

As to the bird, I decided a while back to make him an NPC since I realised I'd been using Pepito a lot more than him anyway. I have yet to make Pepito a proper character sheet though. I must get around to that.

Idea of meritable value since my character is to be gone for a awhile i beleive(if still on castillo pato before im gone) that the spanish navy dock and begin a small check of the island and its markets and such speaking mostly to the people and the merchants. Any pirates are gone into hiding or disquised as merchants themselves. If my character was still on the island he could be captured by the navy due to recognition as a pirate associate or as a use of being a part of the spanish navy. If hes not id still say him being captured would be ideal or such.

One small problem with that, Hotep. If he's captured and tried as a pirate he'd be hanged. That was the law in those days and there was no way around it. I think even if he was captured as a petty thief, he'd either be incarcerated for several years or suffer some worse fate which would preclude him from being any use to Palgrave. Unless they had a trial and he proved innocent of the theft, which is a possibility... That would require either you posting for Blakcs or someone else posting for him for you though.
The other option is just assume he's still there in the background and have all the other characters go on as usual, just without him.

Also, since no one has objected, TMH, you're officially approved so you can start posting for Vitar! :D

Ooh, that's a good idea, Serence! You're right though that someone would probably have to control Blacks for it though. The only other problem is that if they're caught then it would probably end up with everyone from the mpudence in prison and thus ending the RP, and if they're not caught there'd be a big island-wide search for the escaped captives and Palgrave might have to run and may not be able to return to Pato.
Hmm... This idea might need some thinking about actually...

Perhaps some inspiration could be drawn from the denouement of "The Sting"?

Some phoney officials, fake a death (I'm sorry, boy, but if he fell into the devil's blowhole he's bin pounded to paste), and hide him in the secret compartments on the Impudence breathing through a tube.

Also ships take awhile to travel so it would take some time for a naval vessal to get from one place to the home country or jailing island. Id say blacks would be more accounted to thievery and piracy sending him to jail for life maybe tortured some to tell of what he knew that the navy would want. That would take off time and. Would account to such. Also if you take some inspiration from pirates of the caribean you could have blacks at a cliff side cell or a cell to some sort of exit. Then the crew wouldnt have to sacrifice much.

Animals are property. His owner would be held responsible, his own interests and motivation wouldn't be taken into account and the Navy would be unlikely to consider him a useful source of information because he's just an animal. He would be "destroyed" rather than "executed".

he's a talking , self-aware property though , so even though he would be more likely to be disposed of , I think they would still consider getting some info outta him first , after all he's an animal , and in a world such as 17 , people might assume that animals breaks easier than man , simply because they are not a man :P
