Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I've been getting over this awful stomach flu that likes to act like it's gone every couple of hours and then strike really hard. I promise I'll post when it's truly gone, but until then you'll just have to make due without me.

Re: SRP: STEELHAVEN - OOC
Hello! I was wondering if I could join this RP? I love Sci-Fi and ever since Buster suggested his RP I've been sitting on a character idea waiting to use it. I just have to ask because the character I created is not that standard. He's kind of based off of my original Forum personality. He's a mech with an AI, and I'm not sure if that's allowed. I don't want to make the character sheet unless I know the character is acceptable.

Re: SRP: STEELHAVEN - OOC
Due to some lore details that I haven't had a chance to mention in a post yet, he'd either have to be a few hundred years old, or have been created as the result of a freak accident, since intentional AI creation is outlawed in-universe, due to a whole mess of legal and civil rights issues. He'd also need to be restricted to his mech, since the idea of an uncontrollable mind that can spread from machine to machine like a virus doesn't sit well with most people. Otherwise though, he should be fine. Go ahead.

Re: SRP: STEELHAVEN - OOC
Ok, so here is the character. Like I said, he's a mech designed to have a pilot, so he's a bit on the large side.
Character Name: MT-694
Color: #4080BF
Type: main
Species/Breed: Robotic armored Mech
Rank: Ensign?
Age: 250 human years, 875 pet years
Neighborhood: STEELHAVEN
Appearance: MT is a large and ancient robotic mech. His designers gave him an almost dragon like appearance for intimidation purposes. As such, he has a bit of a frightening and imposing appearance. He is about 9 feet tall with a broad “chest” containing a small cockpit. He has wings with vertical takeoff engines which can be folded over the back to reduce his profile. Though he has been remarkably well preserved, some of his external parts and armor show some clear signs of weathering, with a light coating of rust on his outer plating. MT is able to carry 1 small passenger in the cockpit in his chest cavity; a feature added for escort and rescue missions. On the left side of his chest is faded print that reads MT-694.
Personality: (this has been edited as, due to his personality being repaired, he underwent a dramatic personality change) MT is pretty friendly to those he recognizes as allies or neutral, however he has no problems killing a threat if he needs to. For a computer, he has an unusual understanding of non-logical concepts such as beauty and doesn't shy away from admiring art or natural phenomena. In addition, he has been known to be sarcastic, and he has a sense of humor. However, under his fairly personable behavior is a hard, logic driven machine. As such, he is excellent at preforming massively complex calculations with extreme accuracy. MT was asleep for 250 years, and only had a little under a year of experience prior to that. As such, he is inexperienced with modern culture.
Other notes: Built in 2750, MT was designed to be the next step in combat technology. However, due to the ethical concerns, constructing AI was made illegal, and MT was discretely placed in storage and forgotten about. 250 years later, MT’s AI continued to learn and mutate as he slept, which changed some of his algorithms and neural weights. This gave him the ability to disobey orders. This allowed him to wake himself up from his long “sleep” and escape from his holding container. This brings us to today.
stats:
- Strength: 10 (He is a combat robot after all)
- Perception: 6 (perception of surroundings is good, but he struggles with understanding thoughts)
- Endurance: 4 (much of his armor is brittle against impacts and his power runs low quickly when overtaxed)
- Charisma: 6 (He is friendly, but he can sometimes speak like, well, a robot)
- Intelligence: 8 (being a computer and all…)
- Agility: 3 (mostly because of his size, but weathering joints don’t help)
- Luck: 5 (neither here nor there)
- Repair: 2 (he can hold heavy parts in place, but he can’t hold most of the smaller tools for repairs)
- Combat: 10 (see strength)
Hows that? Can I join, or do I need to tweak this?

Re: SRP: STEELHAVEN - OOC
I dunno why Captain Liz would let something as illegal as an AI seems to be board her ship without being completely powered off, but she's not my character and thus, it's not my problem.
General story questions (Mostly because I like stories):
What does he do?
How did he attain rank or even enlist to begin with?
Why was he "hidden away"?
How does adaptive coding result in a change that has little to do with following through on an order? How does a machine justify disobeying an order despite it being lawful?
Is it aware that it has no rights?
Is it attracted to the newer, smoother mechs?
Does it have any hobbies?
Please realize I'm not trying to pick holes in your character, I just like a good story.

As I said, he is mostly a defensive combat robot, but he is also able to socialize with other people, and his adaptive programming enables him to learn new tasks and heuristics, causing him to be largely general purpose.
I don't know how enlisting really works, so I guess I'd have to ask the GM.
He was "Hidden away" because AI was made illegal/was highly taboo. The company "MagiTech" (MT) kept him hidden for this reason until they could plead their case. They lost their case, and they didn't want to be responsible for him. Because of this, they left him in sleep mode and stored him away in a remote facility, unaware that some of his base programming still functioned.
Adaptive coding (machine learning) enables a general purpose AI to mutate and adopt new algorithms and heuristics that allow it to achieve a higher goal. Eventually, his heuristic changed enough so that different orders were given different weights to them. The weight of the order to remain in sleep mode for no reason was less than his self preservation weight. Basically, he can determine the importance of an order, and if the order is as important as another directive, he can ignore the order. He'll still feel bad about it though.
He is for the most part aware that he doesn't have rights. He was built to be a weapon after all.
He is incapable of the emotion of attraction, though he can feel bonds more similar to friendship. He sees newer mechs as inferior due to them not having an AI.
Finally, he was unable to develop hobbies while asleep. That doesn't mean he can't develop them.
How's that?

Re: SRP: STEELHAVEN - OOC
Wow, you've really thought this character through CyberDragon! Might I ask exactly how big is he? I'm guessing he'd be larger than an adult human, obviously, but is he like a KURATA* or Titanfall titan size?
Another thing is, like Deske said, how or why exactly would your character be on the steelhaven? If you don't know, I'm sure Lego could find some way.
Either way, he seems really cool and I hope you are allowed in, because I know for a fact my character would be thrilled to meet them!
(* Google it, can't link on Xbox. Sorry.)

Re: SRP: STEELHAVEN - OOC
I can see him being left in an a never-used corner of the cargo bay by the last captain of the Steelhaven, with any papers detailing his existence being lost, either by accident or on purpose. The only problem would be that, at nine feet tall, he'd take up a LOT of space in a hallway.
Also, to answer some of Deske's questions, it's not illegal to BE an AI, it's just illegal to MAKE an AI. As a result, they're rather rare, numbering somewhere in 12-16 thousands, with one or two occasionally getting created whenever something like the futuristic equivalent of Siri glitches in a specific way. They are considered legal citizens (as long as they pass a sapience test), but with the restriction that they're forced to stay inside of a specially designed body at all times, so he wouldn't be able to stay in that combat body for long. Funny story, I was already planning to have a story about a "Lesser AI (legal term for an AI that does not meet the standards of sapience)" becoming sapient, though it seems that might happen a bit sooner then expected. He's approved. Feel free to have a post about some unlucky saps finding the box he's stored in whenever you're ready.

Actually, I'm making a lot of this up as I go!~\Rook/~ wrote:Wow, you've really thought this character through CyberDragon! Might I ask exactly how big is he? I'm guessing he'd be larger than an adult human, obviously, but is he like a KURATA* or Titanfall titan size?
as for his size, he is smaller than that. He can hold a single human pilot with basically no leg room, or an animal pilot comfortably. I designed him so that, while he would take up a lot of space, he at least would be able to fit in the hallway. His stock abilities are a bit based off of the Titanfall titans, seeing as I've been recently playing that game.

comparatively small dragon shaped mech with collapsible wings? Your descriptions sound a lot like a Redler MkII.
Would it look anything like this?

Re: SRP: STEELHAVEN - OOC
lol, not as many spikes or frills, and standing a bit more upright, but yeah basically
Also, just to make sure there is no confusion, MagiTech was just a cool name for the company I came up with on the fly. They don't actually mix magic with technology, as that wouldn't fit with the sci-fi nature of the story. Instead, they prided themselves on their AI which was capable of doing just about anything depending on what it was plugged into and what purpose it was given.

At the current rate, unless we just do a time skip to arriving on Earth (which I am considering, for expedience sake) we won't get there for at least half a year. If we skip after today, we should get there by May, but that might be underestimating our posting rate. Your character was the ax-crazy cyborg on a rampage against Insignia, right?

She is kind of the opposite of my character!
especially since I'm hoping to get his personality repaired soon. Talking like a robot is fun for a while, but I'm going to get bored of it quickly.
also, if I might ask, why are things moving so slowly? since I joined, it's been averaging about a post or two a day. I thought the RP rules encouraged people to post on an RP at least once a day. I'm just a little confused is all.

heh yeah that's what i also noticed the other day, although if i do come back and stick around long enough, her personality will eventually be awakened again too.CyberDragon wrote:She is kind of the opposite of my character!

Ideally it is like that yeah, but all of us can be busy sometimes, and i think it's exam season in some places. In any case, please be a little patience.CyberDragon wrote: also, if I might ask, why are things moving so slowly? since I joined, it's been averaging about a post or two a day. With that said, perhaps some poking would be good too, so poke poke

Re: SRP: STEELHAVEN - OOC
It really depends on the RP actually. GMs can ask and expect that their members post with a certain frequency but the speed of all the rps tends to ebb and flow depending what's happening out in the real world.CyberDragon wrote: also, if I might ask, why are things moving so slowly? since I joined, it's been averaging about a post or two a day. There's never been an overarching rule that says one post per day although some GMs have historically asked that of their players.

Because you're currently interacting with Captain Walker, controlled by Legotron who has real life things to attend to. Welsh, Hlaoroo and I are generally the most active ones here. Welsh and Roo have more characters, but that doesn't stop me from snapping posts back to back with the single one I have.CyberDragon wrote: also, if I might ask, why are things moving so slowly? since I joined, it's been averaging about a post or two a day. It does sometimes take time for Lego to reply. In this conversation with your mech, the Captain has the final say, of course. But I have re-edited my last post to prompt.

I thought I was waiting for Welsh with Keeva. Did I miss a post?
Play The Hayseed Knight. This isn’t self promotion, I just really like the game.

You ever realize that the two longest pieces of literature in existence are both fanfics? Weird right?

all right. I figured it had to do with real life stuff. I just wanted to make sure I didn't cause the entire thing to come to a halt.

Re: SRP: STEELHAVEN - OOC
I meant to post this this morning, but I'm going to Colorado for spring break to visit my dad. So until a week from Tuesday, my postings are going to be a bit more sparse than usual. Also, does anyone know any good restaurants in the Denver/Boulder area?
