Re: Forum Connectivity/Operating Issues
no, forum games haven't counted towards post count since before I joined. It prevents people from getting insanely high post counts by playing rapid fire games like Members vs Mods.
though post count doesn't matter, so I don't know why we still do that. guess we just haven't changed it.

Huh, I never noticed that until now.
Douglas isn't my real name, but because of a name block put on me by a higher-order being known as Djinni, I can't say my real name.

Re: Forum Connectivity/Operating Issues
Personally I don't want that changed because if it is I lose my spot in the users with the top 5 counted posts.
Forums seem to be running at a respectable speed for me today. Let's hope it continues.

Perhaps the same thing should be done for the Roleplaying forum.

Re: Forum Connectivity/Operating Issues
I pretty much realized that the forum wasn't counting posts in the forum games section when it said i had, like, 10, and I knew I'd done at least a couple dozen in the forum games section. I think it's a good idea. Cuts down on spam a bit.

Re: Forum Connectivity/Operating Issues
While we normally don't mind a little bit of off-topic in our threads, this one should probably be an exception. If you don't have something to say about possible issues on the forum, your post probably has a better thread to be put in.

Er, yes, well...for me, the connection issues seem to have cleared up again for a couple of days now, so they may be resolved for good now, touch wood.

Here you go:Render wrote:THAT's odd... Make a screenshot, please.Douglas Collier wrote:I still get the logout issue a lot. I also occasionally get a weird bug where icons and buttons swap pictures (people's avatars being smiley faces, buttons being avatars, etc.)
It only happens sometimes, and usually goes away after a bit.

Yeah that does seem to be a bit crazy. I wanna say that maybe when you hit a certain number of posts, the forum gets slower.

I cleared the forum cache. Some users report performance improvements. I'll continue to monitor the situation and this thread, so please do post if you have new (or continued) issues.

I dunno if this'll shed any light on anything but I was greeted by an actual factual forum error when trying to log in just a few moments ago. Grabbed a screenshot.

I assume someone's getting statistics at the OS level to see where the traffic's coming from and where the load is? Or is this a managed hosting system where you don't get root?

Our server tech hasn't seen any red flags on their end.

Re: Forum Connectivity/Operating Issues
I guess this might not be a new thing, but I'm a new thing, so here's a post.
While I was muscling through seven years of comics in the span of a few days, I inevitably hit that one time Rick migrated the comment system to these forums. Since then, I would occasionally would follow the link to the forums to check the comments on the more exciting strips, or strips I thought would invoke interesting discussion.
I would have followed the link more often, but it seems that every time I load a forum page, it fails to load anything for the first few tries. Could be a sign of a DDoS attack, if my previous experience on forums has told me anything. Then again, I don't really know much about the server side of things, so it might be something else entirely.

Re: Forum Connectivity/Operating Issues
For many months I've experienced slow loading times and occasionally Error 500s when loading pages on this site, even if more demanding sites like dA load in no time at all. I frequently chalk it up to overloaded servers, although I don't know the traffic capacity of the servers so I don't know what could be causing this.
If you want my number, it's #804080.

This should mostly be resolved. There's no indication, server-side, of unusual traffic (such as a DDoS attack).

It's not related to post count.

Well I know that now, but it seems to be getting harder and harder to post on the forums.
Re: Forum Connectivity/Operating Issues
Was anyone having trouble getting on yesterday? Cause when I tried to get on, it kept saying gateway time-out. I actually had this problem three months ago.

The server did actually crash completely overnight but we seem to be back in business now. Sorry for the inconvenience, folks!

Re: Forum Connectivity/Operating Issues
I was getting 504 errors all day yesterday. They've cleared up, but the forum seems even slower than before on my end now...
Most important thing I've learned from D&D?
No matter how tempting it may be, as a DM I can't both present a problem and solve it.
Every time a DMPC or NPC fixes something a payer couldn't i'm diminishing and undermining that player's contribution.

That only happened for me when I was on my class Wi-Fi. At home, when logged in or not, it takes a significant amount of time.

Re: Forum Connectivity/Operating Issues
I opened a couple of threads and all loaded directly. Then I logged in to reply to one and the index after logging in as well as posting of my reply too ages to load.

Re: Forum Connectivity/Operating Issues
For some reason the forum is running super slow for me. It took 3 minutes just to load this post page from the thread. And it's only the HP! forums that are giving me trouble.

For the first 5 minutes I have tried to get in here, the server dropped the connection. Now the forum seems to load just fine for me.
Re: Forum Connectivity/Operating Issues
Anyone else couldn't get on the site again yesterday?
Re: Forum Connectivity/Operating Issues
Strange, after being previously very slow, and having just been unable to enter the forums for yesterday and today, I'm here and every link is immediately loaded. Did some upgrades happen behind the scenes while I was away? Well if so I'm pretty happy.

Re: Forum Connectivity/Operating Issues
It appears there was an issue resulting in some file permissions being set incorrectly. I can't speculate what led to that, but inaki, our server admin and host, fixed the problem this morning. We're really sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate y'all's patience as we worked to ascertain and correct the issue.
