Housepets! on Wikipedia
Housepets! on Wikipedia
Okay guys. Now Housepets has an Ursa Major Award, I uploaded the WikiFur content of Wikipedia (yeah, that's legal with CreativeCommon-BY-SA Licence 3.0).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Housepets!
It lacks many secondary sources, then feel free to find interesting articles on the internet talking about Housepets! (But no blogs, please).
The article is improval, so you can improve that, but always with neutrality of point of view and only with encyclopediable content.

Legal stuff makes my head hurt .
It is good that the URSA Major Award lets the comic slip by the Notability Guidelines.
Nice job Foldo, you will be responsible for more than a few new readers =)!

Re: Housepets! on Wikipedia
It's awesome so far, especially the intro. We would have to put the characters in their own character section i would say with the exception of Peanut and Grape, but since there's only three sections to add so far, this works just about right for now.
What i recommend if possible in the future is a history section. lots of people that look up the Wiki like to know more history about the comic. sure, there's not much history now, but it's possible if we can get some creative thinking going on we can expand on it's history.

Webcomic articles actually aren't too common on wikipedia, unless the webcomic is really popular. That's why I use Comixpedia instead, although it's also somewhat limited.Typhon wrote:i was wondering on the lack of housepets on wikipedia a couple days ago too.

Someone had actually created an article long ago, But it was removed because it was simply not done right. For instance, the majority of the article was word for word of what you would find on the cast page.Typhon wrote:i was wondering on the lack of housepets on wikipedia a couple days ago too.

Awesome, that looks really professional! First a TV Tropes page, then an award, now a Wikipedia page. If it sticks, Housepets! is just movin' on up to becoming one of the big guys! The name is going to really get out there at this rate.
And I'll get to be all smug and elitist about how I was reading Housepets! before it was cool, or in color for that matter.

I don't see any real reason why it should be drastically different. I mean, it'll end up all the same wouldn't it?

Re: Housepets! on Wikipedia
Really well done, this Wikipedia page.
Two things to mention, have I. First, Miles' bio is nonexistent. As a more un-educated member of the Community, I respectfully request that somebody go and take care of it. Second, to follow the age old tradition of webcomic pages, we should probably write more about the plot arcs up to now, though this is not really that critical.

Re: Housepets! on Wikipedia
I touched up the Wikifur entry today in light of the Ursa Major Win and the fact that HP is currently the featured comic (and probably will be for a while; those things don't get rotated out until someone nominates another comic, so it could theoretically be there for months).
A couple of things:
- I don't want to discourage people from making edits; on the contrary, community-driven efforts are a good thing, as we've proven here before, and the new HP wiki will be totally dependent upon user contributions. However, if you're going to add something, then at least try to make it look good. There's no need to restate facts that have already been mentioned or to add line breaks where none are required. I realize that we have quite a few non-native English speakers here, and that's just fine, but keep in mind that the wiki you're editing is in English; for the sake of clarity and spelling, if nothing else, be sure to proofread your edits and if possible, run them through a spell check of one variety or another (either in your browser or your word processor of choice) and see that everything looks okay before you save them. This will save other people the trouble of going back and cleaning up your punctuation later.
- There's no need to add an entry for every single character in the comic. Seriously. The cast is large and getting larger, and some of them simply haven't done enough of anything to merit inclusion; the reason I left characters like Rex, Daisy, and the Arbelts out on the first pass was simply because they weren't that important. They're in now, and they'll probably stay there (mostly because I figure someone will just add them back if they're removed), but honestly, some people are just copying information directly from the Cast page, and Daisy's entry is all of two lines long. Does she really need to be there?
- For the love of Pete, please try to avoid speculation. If we don't know something, then there's typically no reason to say that we don't know; while there are exceptions, more often than not, it just sounds awkward. Phrases like, "Mrs. Sandwich could be a rocket scientist, or she could just be unemployed, but no one really knows for sure" don't tell us anything, and they really aren't helpful. For the same reason, keep your shipping limited to the forums, unless it's a major plot point that Rick makes an arc out of, or something. If you want to make a thread about how Pete might turn Peanut into a cat so he and Grape can go live on the moon and have a million kittens, then by all means, you have my blessing, but people use wikis for reference, and so the material there should be limited to facts that can be supported within the context of the comic.
I'm not trying to be mean, or trying to say THIS IS MY WIKI YOU CAN'T HAVE IT BLAAAAARGH STOMP STOMP STOMP OM NOM NOM, but remember that the changes you make reflect on both the comic Rick puts so much effort into and on our community as a whole. We have a ton of information of varying degrees of accuracy and style spread across no less than three different wikis, and consistency is something that would he helpful to us. If you'd like to make a contribution, then at least take the time to try and make it a good one.
