I don't know if that's legal... Housepets is copyrighted under the name Rick Griffin, after all.
Re: Printing housepets? good idea or not
correct, it's called "copyright" for a reasonAlex wrote:I don't know if that's legal... Housepets is copyrighted under the name Rick Griffin, after all.

Re: Printing housepets? good idea or not
Perhaps he's referring to Rick printing Housepets!. If the originals ever get colored, I'd think that'd be a pretty good idea, if not now, eventually.
P.S. This should probably be in the "The Comic" section.
P.P.S. Curse you Rick and your gratuitous punctuation title screwing up grammar.

1) There is a topic going about this matter already
2) Rick has already announced he is working on a dead-tree version of Housepets!
thus, any other attempts to do so, unless authorized by Rick himself, are to be considered copyright violations and HUGE offense to the artist.

Re: Printing Housepets? Good idea or not
Am I going to hold my The Cheat plushie while reading Housepets!? No, I'm going to go cry into my dictionary.
And good thing I don't watch Jersey Shore, because there's opportunity for article abuse there too.

Re: Printing Housepets? Good idea or not
It depends what you are doing with it, really.
As far as I can see, Rick uses a regular copyright: You can not alter, distribute, or use the work for personal gain without his permission. You're not supposed to be copying an printing it out like that either, but from the looks of it, Rick probably won't be angry about it. Just remember to buy the book when it comes out. :3
If you want to get specific, only the copyright holder is allowed to do the following:
• To reproduce the work in copies or phonorecords; (Note: Phonorecords are things such as audiobooks)
• To prepare derivative works based upon the work;
• To distribute copies or phonorecords of the work to the public by sale or
other transfer of ownership, or by rental, lease, or lending;
• To perform the work publicly, in the case of literary, musical, dramatic, and
choreographic works, pantomimes, and motion pictures and other audiovisual
works;
• To display the work publicly, in the case of literary, musical, dramatic, and
choreographic works, pantomimes, and pictorial, graphic, or sculptural
works, including the individual images of a motion picture or other audiovisual
work; and
• In the case of sound recordings,* to perform the work publicly by means of
a digital audio transmission.
AND the copyright holder also has the ability to ALLOW anyone else to do these with his/her permission, or alternatively, gives him/her a leg to stand on to go after anyone stealing or abusing their work. The exception to this is "Fair Use," which allows for reviews, parody, etc, basically to keep creators from stepping on first amendment rights. Confusing, no?
You can argue good or bad either way, but in the end it's up to the creator of the work to determine what's allowed.

I guess you could print a couple out and show your friends or something. Just as long you say who made it.

Maybe like, a manga style-ish book, except read left to right.
Sometimes I wish the world would end in 2012
Re: Printing Housepets? Good idea or not
what but it's already free if he wants to print it out what's wrong with that
he's not exactly gonna try to sell it right

Re: Printing Housepets? Good idea or not
What I mean is you just copy the comic line(s) NOT editing something (also not under the comic the site and creator) AND make a front page wich says "by rick griffin"
for travels for example.
