I didn't get it, I guess I am not special... awwww, no cookies for me
Also hey everyone, I had an idea for Barry's background (Going to say it since the GM's didn't object and I wanted to hear how you all felt). Earlier I made Barry mention that his father was "Lost to him" or something to that extent, he hates/blames Insignia for this. Even though it was implied that his father is dead. He isn't, to Barry, he is dead to him. But I wanted hi father to show up, as a minor character really. Maybe annoy or do something mean to Barry or some such. I am not sure what he will do yet, I do have a "Plan" but that depends on how everyone interacts.
Anyway I will give him a character sheet (But I want to see what you guys think if I threw in a character for at least my characters to interact with from time to time). The big important thing is that he would be working for insignia, a wolf, and is a doctor.

I would imagine that protocol would require that he is escorted and watched at all times.

Erm, Lego, does Lewis know sign language? Because Conall's words were signed to Barry so if Lewis doesn't know sign then he wouldn't understand. Conall is deaf so unless I specifically say otherwise it's safe to assume that any dialogue from him is in sign language. It also means that if Lewis replied aloud then Conall won't have caught a word of it unless he was looking in the right direction which I doubt since he was watching Barry.

Re: SRP: STEELHAVEN - OOC
Tech is available to translate but, as Conall is a tech genius, Corp's orders were to keep him away from any tech. Dabry's little pad is barely tech so they're writing to each other on that.Hlaoroo wrote:Now you're thinking like a writer! Oh, I know about the pad. Hence why I said "unless I specify otherwise". Lewis (Lego's character) responded to Conall though. I wasn't aware he knew sign language.

Re: SRP: STEELHAVEN - OOC
I think we need a bit of a moratorium on characters who can sign now. I mean, apart from Dabry, everyone Conall has met can sign!
I'm not saying no new signers, I'm saying they should have a stated reason they can sign or, like Corp, a cheat way to do it.

Liz and Lewis had to learn it for their diplomacy class. Also, since none of you can figure it out, the movie titles are references to the Decepticon mini-cassettes Beastbox and Squawktalk, who combine into Squawkbox.

After the war, Dr. Vanderbilt was stationed elsewhere in a regular hospital. It was a learned skill he picked up so that he could converse with more patients. Hence we he isn't perfectly fluent in it. He knows the words, but fluency is kind of meh still.

See? Your characters have reasons to have learned it. I'd imagine our cafeteria boss also knows the phrase 'point to what you want' but there shouldn't be many more.
I'd imagine a standard sign language is now in play? Here two types developed simultaneously (French & English) and other language versions evolved from them. (US is based on the French, for example.)

Re: SRP: STEELHAVEN - OOC
There's an Australian version too called Auslan.
For Conall, I assumed there were different dialects of sign language but I assumed that there were either enough similarities between them for them to get the gist of what each other is saying, or that there's a kind of lingua franca between signers that can help them understand each other despite having different dialects.

That's a possibility too. I do kinda like the idea of the lads also having their own variation so they can sign without others understanding. To me that's the kind of thing close brothers would do.Welsh Halfwit wrote:Or, as we're a thousand years in the future, someone knocked boffin heads together and got them to design ONE sign language?

Re: SRP: STEELHAVEN - OOC
I've never heard of them so I'll play along with you guys.
For those who don't know "kent" or "kenned" is the past tense of "ken" which means "to know" or "to be aware of" in the Scottish dialect.
If you guys ever have trouble understanding the lads feel free to ask any time for a translation.

Also, that last post I made was intended as a final post before the time jump.
If corp wants, I am sure Ryan would love to also see a movie, and as such would need an escort.
So there is that option if you want to take it.
