Prior to 1938, engagement rings were often comprised of a combination of the bride and her mother’s birthstones, which meant that sapphires, rubies, and emeralds were the order of the day.

Recycling, in many cases, is actually bad for the environment.

Recycling paper created a sludge from the ink and other stuff on the paper. This sludge is really bad for the environment, and by adding something (like sand) to the sludge, it becomes a product that can be dumped in a landfill. Many people also think that recycling paper saves trees because they are no longer cutting down forests, but that is not true either. Most of the trees cut down for paper are grown just for that reason, and recycling paper cuts the demand of these trees, which means less are planted.

I don't think this is useless, but it is interesting.

A lethal injection actually consists of three drugs (or it did) when used to execute criminals. They are:

Sodium Thiopental - Which puts the inmate into a deep sleep which progresses into a coma

Pancuronium Bromide - Which paralyzes the skeletal system and causes respiratory arrest

Potassium Chloride - Which paralyzes the heart and causes cardiac arrest

Cashews are always sold without their shells because the shell contains an oil that can cause a rash similar to poison ivy.

That's because cashews are actually in the same family as poison ivy and so are mangos.

The bulk of the communication between mice, bats and other small rodents is so high-pitched that it's out of our hearing. Their alarm squeaks, however, are low enough that we can hear them. So while we scream in a high-pitched voice, small rodents scream in a low-pitched voice. Like slow motion but not. Go figure. :P

Superman's alter-ego, Clark Kent, originally worked as a reporter for the Daily Star. The Star changed its name to the more familiar Daily Planet in 1940.

On a similar note, the video data on a VHS tape would travel in excess of 50 miles if it ran in a straight line.

Salvador Dali was friends with Harpo Marx.
Dali once wrote a screenplay for Harpo and his brothers to star in called "Giraffes on Horseback Salad".
The screenplay was never produced because MGM considered it too be to surreal. Groucho Marx also felt that it wasn't funny.

Harvard is older than Calculus
Harvard is the oldest higher education institution in the US, founded in 1636. Calculus wasn't derived until later in the 17th century, with the work of Gottfried Leibniz and Isaac Newton.

The Professor did try to fix the hole in the boat in an early episode.
He attempted to patch it using nails he somehow made, but they were too soft.
Then he tried a glue made from tree sap, but after it dried the boat fell apart... somehow.

BTW, how come you never learn The Professor's real name?
And why did the Howell's have several large suit cases full of cash, jewels, Champagne, and changes of clothes for every occasion?
