The center of the galaxy is a black hole. There are several stars so close to it that their orbits have been observed and converted to an animated GIF. Here it is!

Neither the Emu nor the Kangaroo can move backwards. Hence the reason they are on the Australian coat of arms.

The Catatumbo Lightning is a lightning storm over the mouth of the Catatumbo river in Venezuela. It occurs on 140-160 days per year for 10 hours per day with up to 280 lightning strikes per hour. The first recorded reference to this perculiar phenomenon was in 1597!
No one really understand for sure why it occurs.

When launching small rockets to trigger lightning strikes, experimenters use a pneumatic launching system for the rocket that involves blowing into a plastic tube to trigger the igniter at the far end.

Such as the fact that I'm not wearing socks right now. That's information and it's useless!

Of course it's also uninteresting, unlike most of the information in this thread.

Later this year* a cloud of gas and dust with approximately three times the mass of the Earth will pass into the accretion zone of the central black hole of our galaxy. It is not known what effect this will have.

* Technically, this happened 26,000 years ago, but you know what I mean.

A hurricane can release an amount of energy equivalent of about 10,000 Hiroshima bombs. But this energy is spread over a larger volume and longer time, thus, it's effects are much weaker than a nuclear bomb.

The saddest thing about the extinction of the thylacine is that despite being blamed for and hunted to extinction for killing sheep, they were actually unable to kill anything bigger than a possum. They could not physically have brought down a sheep due to the weakness of their jaw.

Dropbears are a giant relative of the Koala. Measuring at 6'1" they live in trees in Australia and drop down on unsuspecting tourists, hence their name. They are now scientifically proven to prefer tourists to Australians. It is thought that this is due to their lower blood vegemite levels not reacting with the sweat glands to produce sufficient Dropbear deterrent chemical signals.

Read the full article on the research here.

The term "It's all Greek to me." was coined by Shakespeare.
Also Shakespeare spelled his name something like 57 different ways.
But then, I suppose they hadn't invented standardised spelling yet so he DID have an excuse. :P
