Re: Fursuits: do you own one?
Gee, if I post too many photos, they might start looking all alike.
but I've got to risk one more:
One thing I've discovered about fursuits is that I've met more girls as Tycho Aussie than I ever did when riding around in a musclecar.
freelance mascotting / public fursuiting is the BEST!

That's because girls love big fluffy anthro dogs.

Re: Fursuits: do you own one?
Good Dog you look so fluffy! I just want to hug you but I can't because the laws of physics and a tiny plexiglass screen render me incapable of such feats. Alas the world is cruel yet again. *sob*
I still want a suit because it looks like fun if I can get over my fear of being one of the centers of attention. But they looks so fluffy and fun and it looks like other people have fun when around people who are fluffy and fun. Smiles all around. *long sigh*

Re: Fursuits: do you own one?
Hello Deske,
Yes, I can totally understand the fear of being the center of attention, but there is a certain amount of bravery that's needed the first time you step out into the open air and into the public. I like to say that bravery is the act of doing something despite your fear.
The first time I fursuited was one of the scariest things I've likely done before: I imagine it felt like the first time one would ever jump out of an airplane for their first parachute jump. I had never seen a fursuiter in real life before, other than my own reflection in a mirror. I had no idea what was going to happen, and to make it worse, my wife was NOT happy with it at all - so if it all blew up it was going to do so in a most humiliating, spectacular way. I even did my first event outside of the front door of my work place, so even my reputation on the job was on the line. So I know the fear. The thing to do though is that even if your heart says HIDE, your head should be saying "Hmm. I am outrageously dressed as a six-foot-three, talking blue dog. There is no hiding. Everyone's looking at you, so you might as well be the center of attention and smile and wave." - which is what I did that first time, and then this happened:
This was from my very first freelance mascotting event, and in the hundred times since, it never gets old.

Re: Fursuits: do you own one?
So, sometimes, on rare occasions, I go to a furry con, generally for one day. I've only attended three of them, one of which was pretty small with only seventy fursuiters, and maybe two hundred total attendees. However guess who was there? It was a big surprise to meet BlondeFoxy of Don't Hug Cacti costume creations. She's really, really good at getting in character, and left me speechless and sheepish - I just wanted to hug her! Seriously, the biggest D'awwww moment I ever had, and I was lucky to get my photograph with Lucky Coyote, BlondeFoxy's superbly awesome character. This was taken at GLFC 2014 in Grand Rapids, Michigan in March.

That picture is 403 forbidden, Tycho. Can you upload it somewhere else and link it again, please?
Re: Fursuits: do you own one?
Entering and confirming the image URL in the browser address bar will let load it, but it's always better use a source which directly allows the images embedding in forums.
Has been nice read about your first fursuiting experience, Tycho! An innocent and brave choice for something that, after all, isn't dangerous for nobody.

Re: Fursuits: do you own one?
Y'know who I'd love to go fursuiting with? Esper. He seems like an awesome guy to fursuit with if he has one.
Anywho, Hello! No I don't have a fursuit, yes I'd love one, and I am here to share what I've found at Joanne's (Joann? Joan? Ah whatever, its like hobby lobby). This is the PERFECT fur for my rp character/fursona, Blizzard.
Here is a picture of Blizzard: I absolutely would love to make one, but I'd probably only suit in cons.

Well, conventions are the main place for fursuiting. It makes sense!

Re: Fursuits: do you own one?
If I had my way, I would change that. For every convention appearance in fursuit, I'd like to see every fursuiter put in ten appearances elsewhere within their community in a public setting and give back by serving as a volunteer.Sleet wrote:Well, conventions are the main place for fursuiting. I just worked out what was bugging me about that picture. Where did the bandanna go?
It is a nice picture nevertheless. You all look so happy.

Re: Fursuits: do you own one?
so, after going to a meet with a bunch of suiters, I may actually be interested in some day getting a suit.
here are some pictures from the meet (none of them have me but all l have suits)
I especially liked the otter one, since it doesn't looks as bulky as the others I've seen (of course that's probably just cause there isn't any long fur adding to it, but the head looks smaller too)

I was at a furmeet that specifically said suiting was involved (though the last meet had a couple suiters too)

Nice fursuits, I like the otter one too, but you must be slim to wear it, slim like an otter. Great thing the charity event participation, Tycho!

Re: Fursuits: do you own one?
I think it would be cool to be around a fur-suiter.
Re: Fursuits: do you own one?
With my little experience hanging with those who suit. I always find I mentally slot them into one of three categories, the awesome, the strange (ones I'm not sure about) and the creepy. Of course this is coming from a person who was very much had a fear of such for most of his childhood (myself of course).
I love a good fursuit (or fursuiter), but at the same time their presence can cause me to hide a bit as well.
Perhaps I should break out a few of my pictures one day of the few experiences I have with them. I tend to be a bit of that "secret snapper" but sometimes its the fursuiters who get the last laugh.
Also Tycho, while I don't agree on certain things, you're still awesome in my book. I have a healthy respect for those who do things considered unusual for a good cause, or with a good intention at heart, without it ending up becoming perverse.

Re: Fursuits: do you own one?
lol, Therolyn! Uh, thanks? Though I think I've totally forgotten about what we might disagree on... which is okay by me.
Those look like some nice fursuiting photos, and yes, I must agree that the otter stands out already as one who is totally enjoying themselves in their role and character. I like to call it "being the puppet within the character", and we sometimes get carried away by the costume.
Creepy, strange, and awesome: I like those categories, and would probably add one other: Self-conscious. There's some fursuiters I see who are almost holding onto themselves for dear life, and act all shy and timid, and I've yet to see the shy/timid act look cute, no matter how cute the costume. If someone dresses up as a cute little mouse, they ought to take on the spirit of Reepicheep and be ready to take on the pirates, if necessary.

I'm shy and passive in real life, but think about it... no one will know it's you in the suit.

Here's one that would likely fit Amazee Dayzee and even has that Kitsune-esque look about it.
