Fixed the image sizes. Yep - now you can see clearly why it needs some tailoring - I'm not that fat in real life.
Oh, here are the paw pads I made too.

Wow Doug, I just realized that you look really, REALLY similar to someone I knew in High School.
I know that's a pretty random thought for the fursuit thread, so I'll also leave you with the fact that it looks really good so far. I'll be interested to see the head, since to me that seems like it would be the toughest part to do.

Well, here's my mask progress so far. Still need to add a few more layers of silicone before I can cast a resin head out of it.

What have you used as a base under that silicone, Doug?

Re: Fursuits: do you own one?
I used air-dry clay, and under that a Styrofoam head with Legos as support for the muzzle. But I'm not sure I would recommend using air dry clay - it cracks as it's drying and it needs to be dry all the way through (or surface dried and coated with some sort of waterproof coating - I used spray paint) before you can apply the silicone, or else you'll end up with a bubbly sticky mess that never dries. The clay must be 100% sulfur free, or the silicone won't work. I also wouldn't recommend using a Styrofoam head unless you naturally have a small head or plan on building up the mask (which takes longer to dry).
In short, make sure you know what you're doing before taking on a mask.

Cool. So... It's just the resin part that you'll actually be wearing, right? Otherwise that sounds rather heavy.

Yeah. Wearing a solid clay bust would be rather difficult.

Wow, that looks like a whole bunch of work! No wonder good fursuits are so expensive.

Re: Fursuits: do you own one?
Lots of progress on my mask! I got it cast, cut, and hinged, and got most of the fur cut out and sewed. Still a ways to go, but it's getting close.

That's looking awesome!
Are you turning it into a full head eventually or leaving it as a mask?

Ha ha! I can now submit my vote. I have a fursuit. Douglas premiered at Salt Lake Comic Con 2015.

Re: Fursuits: do you own one?
It was hot in the mask (still need to install the fan) and really hard to see (my glasses kept fogging up), but it really was pretty fun. Lots of kids (and young ladies) wanted pictures and hugs.

Nice! It's awesome! Looks great!
Have you tried anti-fog spray on your glasses, Doug? That can help. Or you could try contact lenses. Or I've also heard that some furs get giant prescription glasses made to put on the outside of their fursuit so they don't have to wear them inside. I've even heard of making the eyes from prescription glass. Obviously that's expensive though. anti-fog spray is the cheaper way to go.

Re: Fursuits: do you own one?
Well, it's been over two months since I posted anything new here, so I thought I would share something I like to call 'Adventure Fursuiting':
Take a fursuit, hop on a jet aircraft, land somewhere in a country where nobody speaks your language, put on your fursuit and see what happens.
So, I am traveling through states of the former Soviet union, about 200 miles from the border of China and Afghanistan. I've been here three weeks now.
During that time, I've fursuited five times, with two of them on the street. Once in Baku, Azerbaijan, and once in the streets of Bishkek, looking for photo ops.
...boy did we find them. The reactions range from astonishment to delighted astonishment - and everyone wants to get some of the fun with selfies. In one place, I was taking photos of some street art, and the traffic started packing up until horns were honking and tooting, because drivers and passengers were rolling down their windows and sticking their cellphones out the window to snap pictures. I keep my passport and some money handy, "just in case" but nothing bad has happened!
People are people, wherever you go, it seems.
Anyway, Here's a photo from the Kyrgyzstan walkabout:

Re: Fursuits: do you own one?
I am finally home!
While overseas, I even tried something that I've been told has never been done before:
Public fursuiting in old-city Istanbul, Turkey.
I didn't get as far as I had hoped, but for a very different reason: So many people reacted positively that I never was able to even get off my hotel street. The hotel staff, and the restaurant staff, and the staff of all the various shops on the street all came out and wanted photographs, so my walk to the town square never was completed. People were giving me money, the restaurant staff was offering me drinks and food, and the shop owners were inviting me to come into their stall and have tea with them. Eventually I ended up in a basement where they sell and restore antique Turkish carpets, and I had tea from a silver and gold tea set with the owner.

is that the Hagia Sophia?
also it seems that Istanbul is the best place to fursuit. or at least one of the best.

Cool photos, you did great travel, Tycho! You're the best at public fursuiting, all around the world.
