Chat Thread 42: The Answer To Life The Universe & Everything
I run Windows 7, but have no desire to update it, even the Windows 10 free download when it comes out. If I got a new computer, then I would use it on the new computer. I don't like the new look, and I am not too fond of the app store.
I hate the new Skype, so I downloaded the old installer as well. It would be nice to change the update path, but I don't know how, and I don't want to mess things up. I just deal with it yelling at me. Only problem I have with the old Skype is when some people send me pictures. It downloads as if it were the new Skype, so I can neither change where they download to, or find where they are downloading to. So now I have multiple images just floating around my computer, they aren't even in the Skype downloads folder.
I just hope they don't do what they did with the older versions of Skype and force an update.

So has anybody heard about "Deflategate" or "Ballghazi" as we're calling it now?

I think I remember there being some kinda maze game and you solved the maze by answering questions correctly. Good way to top up yer edukayshun. That the game you mean?Hlaoroo wrote:Yes! That's the one, Thom! That was great game! I miss that.
Re: Chat Thread 42: The Answer To Life, The Universe and Eve
I was a little young to be playing that one, so most of it was guess and click, but I remember enjoying it nonetheless especially when I randomly knew the answer to one of them. Also the pictures were great

That was pretty much what I did. I usually had it on easy mode too. It was still fun though.Obbl wrote:I was a little young to be playing that one, so most of it was guess and click, but I remember enjoying it nonetheless especially when I randomly knew the answer to one of them. I'm the same age as you, I think, Obbl, so I was equally young when I played it.
Re: Chat Thread 42: The Answer To Life, The Universe and Eve
Well, okay, yes, there is that
I never did solve the maze, I don't think
I only watch SkiFree being played once. It looked fun. Wish I had a chance to play it
Oh, and according to XKCD you can escape the yeti by pressing 'f' to go faster

That's what suddenly happend, it updated without asking first as it should... So I had to force it to not do that.dtlux1 wrote:I just hope they don't do what they did with the older versions of Skype and force an update.
Yeah, it's the same for me. You can rightclick the pic and you have "save as..." there.dtlux1 wrote:Only problem I have with the old Skype is when some people send me pictures. Deske wrote:I like the older version of Skype as well, but I'm much too lazy to go to the trouble of learning how to change the update path to 127.0.0.1, so I just kind of deal with it.
In case you one day want to do it, it's pretty easy. Basically three steps:dtlux1 wrote:I hate the new Skype, so I downloaded the old installer as well. It would be nice to change the update path, but I don't know how, and I don't want to mess things up. I just deal with it yelling at me.
1) locate the file "hosts" in C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc and copy it out (you cant edit it in there, even with administrator rights)
2) edit the file and add the line
Code: Select all
127.0.0.1 download.skype.com
If you want to update Skype somewhen, just redo the steps and remove the line again.

Re: Chat Thread 42: The Answer To Life, The Universe and Eve
I know about the right click part, but for some reason there is no "save as" option on my Skype, and for the update thing, I may try it. Thank you for the information.Render wrote:WALL OF TEXT

My goal is to go through three chat threads this year. Chat thread 41 took WAY too long, so if/when the thread slows down, you'll probably see me poking it. In all honesty, the chat thread has always been my favorite.
Oh, and I also FINALLY got my computer working right after fighting with it for about a week. If you guys ever decide to use Ubuntu as your OS, be sure to get the current LTS (long term support) version. That's the stable one without all of the bugs.

Yeah, I don't think the Patriots would be disqualified for this. Besides, they say the investigation could take weeks to complete. lolAmazee Dayzee wrote:Oh hello no Punchy! Re: Chat Thread 42: The Answer To Life, The Universe and Eve
The bugs almost got me stuck in a situation. In Ubuntu, it comes with a piece of software that can create bootable USBs, which is how I install the OS. (The USB works the same as a CD.) In the version of Ubuntu that was giving me trouble, the software actually had a bug that prevented me from making a working USB of the LTS version.
Fortunately, I could boot to a live trial version from the UBS still and use that to install the OS. I was ALMOST stuck with no way to put the working version on for an unknown amount of time.

I am still finding different things that these forums have to offer, just found out about the chat thread a month ago. There are still multiple threads I haven't even looked at but have been meaning too. Hard to believe that I have been on the forums since September, it seems like much longer.JeffCvt wrote:My goal is to go through three chat threads this year. So far I think the chat thread is one of my favorite.
Also, it is a good thing to get bugs out. =)

I remember when I was 4 or 5, I would ask my mom what we were going to do yesterday. She would then tell me what we did the day before, and I would say, "NO! We did that the day before today, what are we going to do yesterday?" This probably happened for a year before I finally knew what yesterday meant.Punchy wrote:I'm from the past.
