I don't see any particular usefulness in such a feature. I would use it, but only because I like to fill out forms.

Well sense we have had some confusion with gender, it would probobly be beneficial to have. But something tells me that it will end up like location and people will write down something weird.

Any time other forums I've been on have had the feature, it was a drop down box.

I don't see why we need to know eachothers' gender. I'm not against being able to know, but I also am not for it.

It's not really a big deal on the internet; unless someone tries to use webcomic forums to meet guys/girls (why?!), an opinion's an opinion. I've always figured that if gender is ever relevant to a topic, it would be probably be made known in the person's post(s). I guess it'd be nice to know what pronouns to use, but that's about it. Personally I don't care when people call me the wrong pronoun, but I understand the desire for an easy reference.

In English, unless there is strong evidence else wise, one uses a male pronoun. Sexist, but correct, so, since you don't want people to know your gender, if they use male, they're right, and if they use female, then they could be right.

There are a lot of people who don't support that.

As someone who studied Spanish, a much more logical language, I've started to believe that those people are full of it (clarifying edit: Spanish does what you described). Masculine neutrality leads to so much more natural speech than having to use awkward constructs like "his/her" or "(s)he." They also have the lovely word "vosotros" (or the Latin-American makeshift variant, ustedes) that we desperately need and don't have outside of Southern and urban US vernacular (clarifying edit 2: it means "y'all"), but that's a topic for another time.

They tend not to work. Especially online ones. Heck, this thread will let Rick know who wants a gender option just as well as an online petition will.

Well we know he does to some extent.

Either way, "hey Rick, look at this petition" won't accomplish anything that "hey Rick, look at this forum thread" wouldn't.

If you don't set up this function I have to report you to the United Nations Human Rights Council, Rick.

As a matter of fact, he spoke of everyone (what includes confirmed furries), thus you're erroneous.

And a Cylon. Ciao. *pushes button for airlock ejection*
