for those who didn't know them, Belka and Strelka are the very first russian dogs to survive the re-entry of a space capsule in the Soviet program. The success of this mission paved the way for Gagarin's feat.

I wouldn't consider them to "true heros"... I consider heroes to ppl who save others life regardless to their own... so I wouldn't call this dogs who were just lucky as heros
