Re: What's today?
Congratulations, GK!
My guess would have been this: It was in the year 1899 when an Italian inventor from Bologna named Guglielmo Marconi established the first radio contact across the English Chanel from Wimereux, France to South Foreland Lighthouse, England.

1814, but yes. For some reason, I thought that would be more difficult than the last one.

Ah, yeah, sorry... mistyped.
I have just 5 minutes left of today, April 1st. So I have to be quick. xD - But no problem, I go something.
This time I search for a person, related to this:

Re: What's today?
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's birthday? Let's have a look...
Nope. not that. 22nd May 1859 that is.
Date the book was published?
Mmmm...possibly. It sez it was serialised in newspapers till April 1902 at which point it was all put together into a book.
So I'm gonna go with that.

Re: What's today?
Nice idea, but no. The book was published in March 1902 already before the continuous story in the newspaper was finished to get impatient people into buying it. They already knew those tricks at that time. xD
I have no idea when the newspaper publication was finished.

That is Edgar Wallace, a hugely prolific writer in his time. He was born on April 1, 1875. He wrote the screenplay for the 1932 film The Hound of the Baskervilles.

I wonder what that has to do with an empty newspaper...ZombieRaptor wrote:The first American launched air raid on the Japanese mainland, known as the Doolittle raid, took place on April 18th, 1942.

Now a serious try: April 18th 1930, the BBC announced "There is no news." followed by piano music.

I actually thought that it was indeed the day a computer algarithm calculated as the most boring day in history when nothing of significance happened, but when I looked it up, turns out that was April 11th, a whole week ago!Render wrote:18.04.1991 - Absolutely nothing important happened...

Re: What's today?
Well, I have a stack of newspapers from that period and a good few of them have that exact same bold print headline detailing the latest happening in the war, especially morale boosting events like that.Render wrote:18.04.1991 - Absolutely nothing important happened...I wonder what that has to do with an empty newspaper...ZombieRaptor wrote:The first American launched air raid on the Japanese mainland, known as the Doolittle raid, took place on April 18th, 1942.

Okay my third and final clue is practically telling you the whole thing now. What I'm looking for is an event in history that involves Queen Elizabath and this man;

I believe that you are searching for Gene Shoemaker who discovered the comet P/Shoemaker-Levy 9 which crashed into Jupiter. He was born on April 28th, 1928.

Re: What's today?
That looks suspiciously like Anne Boleyn. Let's see, what did Henry the 8th do to her again?
Ooooh! 28th June 1941. Henry the 8th himself was born!
Too easy

Re: What's today?
Although Anne Boleyn and Henry VIII are very much connected I don't think the Anne Boleyn had anything to do with Henry VIII's birth so I dddthink that's a little too far of a stretch. It think it's more to do with the creation of the Church of England so that Henry VIII could marry Anne Boleyn. The Blue Fox wrote:That looks suspiciously like Anne Boleyn.
