Well done, Thom! Nailed it! Only, you got the year slightly wrong. The Blue Fox wrote:That looks suspiciously like Anne Boleyn. Let's see, what did Henry the 8th do to her again?
Ooooh! 28th June 1941. Henry the 8th himself was born!

You probably meant 1491...The Blue Fox wrote:Oh, woops. Of course I meant to put 1841 =^w^;=
Hmm.. Presently no idea what library that is. Have to search.
Re: What's today?
I'm gonna try this.
In 1862, the Russian State Library was founded as the first public library in Russia. Its original name was The Library of the Moscow Public Museum and Rumiantsev Museum, and it was also nicknamed "Leninka".

Yep. The first picture is supposed to be of the place he posted it at.
Name the place if you can, and I'm still gonna need the year he posted it too.

On July 1st, 1858 two scientific papers, one from Charles Darwin and the other from Alfred Russel Wallace, have been presented to the Linnean Society of London under the joint titel "On the Tendency of Species to form Varieties; and on the Perpetuation of Varieties and Species by Natural Means of Selection".

It was a bit of a pain to try and find a photo of these, plenty of detailed drawings though.

Re: What's today?
I've had no idea at all for a long time and then I searched again for things that happened that day and I suddenly saw the name Isaac Newton nd together with the apple...
I only found out about the first thing being a test-object for experiments after reading throught stuff about Newton. I thought all the time it's something to move furniture
This was never dead for me, I just had no clue what it could be... And I always wanted to give it another try but sadly forgot...

Re: What's today?
Your most likely to come across those trolleys in A-level physics (or an equivalent). They're good for demonstrating the principle of conservation of momentum, especially with explosions (doesn't necessarily mean fire and stuff). I'm not able to explain that simply though.
Anyway, congrats and enjoy choosing what today is.

Re: What's today?
Well the black and white picture narrows the time period done a lot. So what ever happened was in the last 200 years, but no later then WWII. So, I'm going to take a guess at the invention/discovery of Nitroglycerine.

Re: What's today?
Well it's something to do with Frankenstein, that's for sure. It's not the publication date... nor the date it was first adapted on film...
But it does seem to be the author Mary Shelley's birthday.
