I leave it out in direct sunlight so the sparkles attract attention.
The book gets rescued instead of me, so I stow away on the ship that took it.
I leave behind a shipment of bananas I had to throw out of a crate.

I eat the bananas, then using a rather complicated method, I dry the skins and use them to create a buoy with a message on it, and set it adrift at sea. Luckily, people find the banana buoy, and they save me, using directions that I made from the positions of the moon, sun, and stars at certain times of day.

I modify it into a rudimentary transmitter, and build a makeshift antenna out of some of the wiring. Not that it actually works since i have nothing to transmit, so i leave behind a skeleton.

No matter how tempting it may be, as a DM I can't both present a problem and solve it.
Every time a DMPC or NPC fixes something a payer couldn't i'm diminishing and undermining that player's contribution.

I use the skull to play out the monologue of Hamlet to Yorick. Theatrical critics arrive to bash the play, so I steal their boat, and leave ~17 angry cultural critics and reporters behind.
Yes, that is about the best thing to write that I could think of.

I glue the leftover bits together using tree sap to make modern art, attracting people from around the world to come gaze at it and figure out just what it might mean.
When they all eventually realize that my art is nothing more than leftover scraps and tree sap, I sneak on one of the boats before they all leave, leaving behind a fake, doll sized me so they wouldn't realize I had snuck onto a boat.

I reverse engineer the plug and create a plug magnet, and use it to remove the plug in the bottom of the ocean allowing me to walk back to land. I of course also built robots to put the plug back after I left, so I leave the 'bots behind.

I use the shorts to make char cloth to start a rescue fire quickly and easily, and am rescued by a passing ship.
I leave the Altoids tin I used to make the char cloth, as well as some bloody sticks from building the first fire.

Re: The Island Game
I push all the rocks, dirt and gravel into the ocean, thereby doubling the size of the island, attracting National Geograhic, the DeBeers Corporation, and warships from the navies of several major powers. However, because I am remarkably obtuse, I ignore the value of the semi-precious stones and instead raise first-class steerable home by charging sailors rent for using my island as a empire's haven. So, I'm gone and you get an island coverage in discarded tobacco product trash.

Repeated tuning do to vibrations produce sonic waves that attract radar attention from the UNited States Air Force searching for UFOs. Their arrival on the island abetts my departure but results in a large pole of small notepads being left behind by airmen seeking autographs from discovered space aliens.

Re: The Island Game
Employing the fishing rod to catch vast numbers of fish, I succeed in attracting enough exotic sea birds to obtain sufficient DNA for the recreation of the Dodo. When scientists discover the revival of this formerly extinct species, they of course "flock" to the island, rescue me, and retire to a life of opulence as a result of the profits from the unexpected popularity of Dodo birds as domestic pets....
