Oh, xkhp.
Did anyone else search "traceroute" on Wikipedia? Better question: did anyone not? I kind of get what it means, so now the joke is funny.
Also: at least the Ouija board didn't catch fire.

I get it now after Wikipedia searching as well. If Grape somehow gets it then that proves my theory of them having computers of some sort.

Rick: Wait, what was wrong with it?
Elliot: 1.) You punctuated it wrong. It loses its feel when you append it with an ellipsis or question mark. It needs a period, or an exclamation point in a pinch.
2.) Did he just use his magical powers to put words in your mouth, or did you/he edit your post?
Hmm... That gives me an idea.

I like Third and Fourth panel Sabrina faces. Sadly I must say even after looking up what Traceroute means and understanding the joke I still don't find it funny. Which is odd because I normally like nerdy humor oh well I can't like them all I guess.

Oh, I just now saw the post earlier. I originally saw the quote and then scrolled up to your more recent post and thought that was the only one you made and noticed that you didn't say what you were quoted with. Disregard what I said.Private Elliot wrote:I dont remember my original point now.Sleet wrote:Rick: Wait, what was wrong with it?

You know what they say. You can't please all people all the time. A little variety in joke delivery never hurt anybody, so this comic doesn't really bug me at all, even if I had to use Wikipedia to understand it. I understand why others might not like it, though.

The way i got the joke is she's picking up a wireless signal, not ghosts.
I wonder how often this happens to Sabrina in relation to Tarot? Grape's face in Panel 3 was pretty much my look upon asking that question.

Re: Arc# 36: Scaredy Cats
For the luddites: "traceroute" is a tool that traces the various IP address that stand between the source and destination computers. It's a way to see the exact path your data travels, and how many different pieces of equipment it travels through.
Personally I think the joke would've been funnier if it said "PKE meter" instead of "EKG meter". x3

Re: Arc# 36: Scaredy Cats
Traceroute may not be popular enough for me to have gotten that joke but the whole "it's the technique that changes" part of the joke I got so it was at worst merely a delayed reaction. For future reference if Rick had written it as "Traceroute.ghost" even if it wouldn't actually work if you put that into google (or equivelant search engine) it'd still give enough of an "it's an online reference, even if you don't know what Traceroute is" clue that I'd probably have gotten it right off the bat. Eh, if I laughed at every joke everybody made I'd be hip enough on how everybody else thinks that I'd be able to do stand up comedy with little more then a minute's preperation!
Everything I need to know, I learned from webcomics!
Re: Arc# 36: Scaredy Cats
The joke also works if you haven't looked its exact nature up on WP, since it's sounds like a program code/command (well, in a sense it too is, but you get my drift). Same payoff.Sleet wrote:A little variety in joke delivery never hurt anybody, so this comic doesn't really bug me at all, even if I had to use Wikipedia to understand it.

See this is my deal. It's why I can read XKCD and Worse Than Failure and still get the joke 90% of the time even if I have no clue what they're talking about in specific.Liam wrote:The joke also works if you haven't looked its exact nature up on WP, since it's sounds like a program code/command (well, in a sense it too is, but you get my drift).
