Do You Play Guitar?

Post by Alastair »

Guitar is one of my favorite hobbies, and I would like to hear from all the people that also play. Go ahead and list your guitar gear if you do so choose.
Thanks, gracias, arregato, etc...

I have a basic Squier Stratocaster. I'm not good enough to need a good guitar. XP

Shore do! I run a Laguna 422 through a Line 6 Spider III and an FVB stompbox.
I stick to mostly classic rock and classic metal.
How bout you?

And don't diss on Squre, I've almost bought one on a couple of occasions just 'cause they're so cheap and fun! lol

Well it's cheap! That's the thing. I don't have a more expensive model because it's my worst instrument.

Always wanted to get into the six string. A friend had a Squier running through a Fender shoebox amp of some sort. It was tons of fun!

As for me, I play bass guitar. Running a Fender Jazz Bass with a Maple fretboard in a Traynor DyanBass 200T (2x10in., ~300watts).

I don't have a band yet, and when I do, I won't be the guitarist. I'm not good enough to play guitar in a band yet.

I play bass in the band at my church, though.

I play in our school's Jazz Band. We pretty much go everwhere the school wants us, so not just little school recitals!
I'm also in an informal band with some friends, we play garage concerts every once in awhile to annoy the neighbours. I also do lots of recording myself, for no apparent reason.

300 Watts is way too much power for what I do! I once had the same amp, but in a 1x15 setup. That sucker on full volume made dishes in every house on our block fall out of their cabinets :P

I play the guitar, too! I use a fender stratocaster (although it's just a cheap copy of the real thing, it still works great). I play only in my school band, which doesn't really play the music I love. It's hard to get a band around here, because there aren't many who listen to metal, and most of them don't play any instruments :S

Been playing for a year and a half.

My Dad plays professionally, so we have around 35-40 guitars in addition to all our other musical stuff.

As for me, i tend to play mostly acoustic stuff. I feel like i could be better than i am, but i don't really have the drive for it. So i stick to easy-moderately difficult acoustic pieces.

I own two acoustic guitars, but I can't tell you the names or anything like that. :P

I know how to read the music for guitar scales, and I'm working on playing those. So I'm a very, very, basic beginner. ;P
Let me tell you about Homestuck.

Here is all my gear:

Epiphone Les Paul Custom w/ EMG pickups and Gotoh bridge

Stacked Peavey 158 and 258 with a ZOOM G1NEXT sound processor

I'd actually like to trade in the Peaveys for a Marshall 30. The Peavey is almost too muddy sounding. Good amps though...

My friend has a vintage Fender acoustic that I want. He doesn't even play guitar, and someone actually gave it to him as a gift. :x I'm a Gibson man, but Fender's pretty awesome as well.

I can play guitar just barely. I know the very, very basic basics...as in very few chords and 1 song.

The strange thing? I own 2 guitars, hehe...

Ibanez is japanese, I think. I see 'em everywhere. Every hard rock band and their grandmas play them. I have never played their basses, but their electric guitars didn't really do it for me when I tried 'em out. But that's just me. Apparently everyone loves Ibanez.

I've always found it amusing that a Japanese company has a Spanish name, Ibañez, kupo. The Spanish invented the guitar, so I suppose it makes sense.

Ibanez are good guitars. If your looking for a guitar that sounds good without breaking the bank, get one. I also recommend Schecter guitars. Those things are sweet.

Nice gear dude! Would love to play with that Peavey stack!

I'm a guitar player too.

Got a Jackson Randy Rhoads RX-10D and my newly acquired Ernie Ball MusicMan Silhouette.

And a Vox Lil' NightTrain head and cab. Overdrive is awesome and it can sound 80's metal too!

And I've got the Zoom G1XN! Great effects processor dude, worth the money.

Thanks, man. I really like my gear, but I'm thinking on switching the amps for Marshalls. Peavey makes some awesome stuff though. Your gear sounds pretty tight too. Jackson makes really good guitars, and I've always wanted a Musicman. I could never get rid of my Epi though...
Here is what my guitar looks like. You can also see the amps in the background.

And I've never had the chance to play a high end Jackson.. guess I'll have to tear myself away from the Telecasters next time I'm in Guitar Center.

Jackson's are pretty awesome in the high end series so the my RX-10D Rhoads is nothin' compared to an RR. Would say that I bought it out of impulse man...waste of a good $1000+...

Anyways....here's my awesome EBMM Silouhette!

I'm liking the MM! A lot! I actually haven't the Sillouette before. I'll take 2 of them please. :D

When I was at guitar center a couple of years ago, I played a Schecter...
Pure WIN!!!
It came with emgs, a Floyd Rose tremolo, and Grover tuners. You can get those guitars pretty cheap, and they're a pretty high grade guitar.
If I had the room I'd have a whole wall of guitars...

Silos really feel alot like a EBMM JP6 John Petrucci signature. Almost the same build and small body size, except the forearm contour. So the Silo can really be a better superstrat wether it be for your clean stuff or for metal shredding whatever...

I'm past the hype of active pickups for over 2 years now. I dropped Seymour Duncan Blackouts in my Jackson and it sounds great, except that after a while they seem real muddy. That's when with this Silo, I feel that it doesn't color the sound so much unlike other modern or hi-output pickups out there..

And man would I love to visit Guitar Centre. I'm not from teh Sates but muffins and cookies heard its big and all. Would love to try an ENGL Powerball amp there

Silo's? I'll have to check those out sometime. They sound pretty cool.

I really like the sound of the EMGs, but I think my amps hold back the sound a bit. The stock Epiphone pickups were very well balanced, but the gold was fading badly because of moisture or whatever, whch was part of the reason why I chose to get EMGs, plus I was looking for an upgrade... If your ever in the States, you should make Guitar Center a major destination. They have everything there.

Silos as in Silhouettes lol. It's a short form I use.

Speaking of EMGs, you've just reminded me of a guitar I need to return to my friend lol. It's a Shecter Damien 7 String, and darn the strings are freakin' rusty.

:D Thanks.

I know a guy that has a Marshall amp that I want. He's a Fender guy and wants one of those Fender Vibratone's, I think that's what's it's called, and he said that if I could find one of those and buy it for him, he'd give me his Marshall. Both of those amps are in the same price range so it's a fair trade... I have a Fender G-DEC that I'm not using right now, but my cousin wants it, so I was going to give it to her. I didn't like it because all it did was effects. You had to set up the amp for it to play clean, which is dumb.

Guitarists who don't learn to read music are annoying. I think any decently serious guitarist needs to be able to read sheet music and tablatures. I was in a band with a guitarist who needed mini theory lessons every time I used a term as obscure as "half step."

I know a lot of guys who play guitar and can't read music besides tabs. Still good, even if not perfect. I, personally, have never been taught how to read anything bar tabs as well. :P
