Suggestion #1: Don't buy from iTunes, buy your music off of Amazon.

I'd strongly suggest you try DJ Shadow. DJ Shadow - Midnight in a Perfect World I've been listing to his music again and the beat/melody combinations he uses. It's indescribable how much I love his stuff.

Why not post something you like then? You may be surprised to find that many people also enjoy the same songs you do!
Personally, I've been on a bit of a Bowie kick lately.
Some people may not like this particular song, or may not be fans of Bowie (somehow).
But others will, so it's still worth sharing the music that you like! ;)

Nonsense, unless all you listen to is Kpop and Jpop. But some of that is perfectly fine as well!

Everyone has different niches they enjoy the most. Some of us enjoy just about everything under the sun. I've actually gotten a bunch of good songs from this thread that I wasn't expecting to like.

Sleet, have you ever seen the movie Moulin Rouge? David Bowie sings a version of "Nature Boy" for the soundtrack which I've always thought was amazing.

Techno, Dubstep, etc, suck. And I mean that in a bad way, since, apparently, there's no way to write a bad review review for Dubstep.

Intelligent people like me listen to progressive/trance, also I think my coding productivity doubles two hours every Thursday when A State of Trance comes on. This is at least for background music, if I'm looking for something with lyrics to just listen to, I find myself listening to vocal trance, country-rock, progressive, and similar synth pad or guitar-heavy sounds: Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Rush, Pretenders, Coldplay, Tears for Fears, maybe some of the more mellow types of metal. I usually like to think I have the vocabulary to describe a particular quality of a song, but I can't place my finger on this one, it's just a sort of sound about it that fills a room really nicely.

Well that's a bit rude. Musical tastes differ amongst people. You can't really judge someone based on the fact that they listen to one sub-section of a genre.

I classify most things electronic based as techno, whether that's for better or for worse. Trance would fall under that. I guess Electronic would be a better word for it. And I do like some trance.

The best songs are the ones where it just makes you feel really happy, but you can't figure out why. I've had that happen with several songs. Other songs have brought a tear to my eye when I heard them. Can't exactly describe it but it just...sounds phenomenal enough that I start to almost have a breakdown. A good breakdown.

Oh no, I'm only judging Dubstep here. It's filthy music and I'm making fun of the fact that's supposed to be a compliment within the genre.

Techno and trance are two completely different genres, both sub-genres of "electronic dance." Trance has a fairly constant tempo (125BPM seems to be the standard) and 1-1-1-1 or 1-2-1-2 backbeat, since they're frequently mixed together live, and features synth pads, and more natural-sounding-sounds like piano, acoustic guitar, strings, and white noise transitions, which you don't find on techno. For electronic music, at least.

I have to say, people aren't more intelligent for liking different genres. I will admit that some genres have a certain intelligence "barrier of entry" (particularly less popular ones), but that's not to say that there aren't intelligent fans of any given genre.
