Um, ow, that's all I have to say.
So great things have happened today, I have an old rifle with a lock my mother lost the key to, its basically a padlock on a chain. Well today I decided to free my rifle from the lock I just hit the lock with a hammer. Looked sketchy, but hey, its my gun man.

I can almost, but not quite imagine, our generation as old folks conversing in the language of Spongebob quotes.

If you've seen up to the movie, you're good. Most of the episodes afterward aren't good.

I saw at least most of the episodes up to the movie. and I watched the movie (but I don't remember much about it)
EDIT: I did not see the movie. but I did, as I said, see most of the episodes before that.

Re: Chat Thread XXX: It's Not What You Think
I know a lot of trivia about good cartoons. I'm pretty sure you guys also know that Steven Hillenburg stopped producing episodes after the creation of the movie. It was too popular to end so they Nick network continued making more episodes. And soon the series started going down the drain. Spongebob is the most popluar low budget cartoon to ever be this popular in the US and worldwide. I'm sorry I just could not control the urge to say all that.Sleet wrote:If you've seen up to the movie, you're good. Most of the episodes afterward aren't good.

If by "earlier", you mean first three seasons, you're golden.RandomGeekNamedBrent wrote:hey, I've at least seen most of the earlier episodes.
What Sleet saidSleet wrote:If you've seen up to the movie, you're good.
Here's a question: I want to know if you guys have any theories as to why episodic series so routinely decay. (That wasn't a question.) Do they stretch their material thin by running too long? Do they rest on their laurels once they're popular? Obviously cases differ, but it's such a common occurence that there's surely something behind it.

Re: Chat Thread XXX: It's Not What You Think
I do mean those. apparently my TV watching habits saved me from watching a good show crash and burn by stopping me from watching right as the downhill slope started, because looking at the episode list, I don't recognize the titles of any of the episodes from season 4 on.CaptainPea wrote:If by "earlier", you mean first three seasons, you're golden.RandomGeekNamedBrent wrote:hey, I've at least seen most of the earlier episodes.
I think shows tend to go too long. they need to quit while they're ahead. Scrubs tried to, and had the perfect ending to the series, but then they did that spinoff that wasn't a spinoff and it ended on a low note.

Well not exactly, They had a ninth season on which they added a new cast and faculty. A year later after season 9 ABC canceled the show.sonic id furreh!!! wrote:they did? o.oRandomGeekNamedBrent wrote: I think shows tend to go too long. they need to quit while they're ahead. yes. season 9 was called "Scrubs: Med School" and only had Turk, Dr. Cox, and Dr. Kelso and they were teaching med students. I liked it, but it just wasn't the same.ManaWolf wrote:Well not exactly, They had a ninth season on which they added a new cast and faculty. Re: Chat Thread XXX: It's Not What You Think
Scrubs was all set to finish at the end of their seventh season, but then they decided they were going to come back for an eighth in which they got rid of most of the main cast and brought in a new one. It sounds like a spinoff, but it wasn't. Apparently, people didn't like it because they didn't come back.sonic id furreh!!! wrote:they did? o.oRandomGeekNamedBrent wrote: I think shows tend to go too long. they need to quit while they're ahead. Oh, was it 9? Easily could have been, I can't say I watch Scrubs that often.ManaWolf wrote:Well not exactly, They had a ninth season on which they added a new cast and faculty. I'm a couple seasons behind on The Office (US, if you couldn't figure out), but it seems to me seven years would have been a good run, especially what with losing their central character. I'm watching them on DVD though; I'm a little ways into season six and it's still going rather strong, so I'll keep up hope.

Re: Chat Thread XXX: It's Not What You Think
I see why you were confused. it was going to be 7 seasons because NBC was cancelling them which is why they killed Laverne but then ABC picked them up and they were able to give the series a proper ending. then they messed it up by going one more season.CaptainPea wrote:Scrubs was all set to finish at the end of their seventh season, but then they decided they were going to come back for an eighth in which they got rid of most of the main cast and brought in a new one. Re: Chat Thread XXX: It's Not What You Think
It's often both. Shows only have so much potential for ideas. Good shows often run to the end, but quit when they're ahead. If the network wants them to keep going, however, sometimes that leads to worse quality. Sometimes they do get lazy when they're popular enough, but I doubt that's as likely.

I've been watching all eight seasons. In order. x3
As far as I'm concerned, it's better for something to go out in a blaze of glory (or whatever approximation can be used for a TV show) than to slowly fizzle out. Or, you know, keep being endlessly kept alive in zombie form by the network.
That was a weird analogy. I think. >_>

Really? I think most of the new Spongebobs are just bad and devoid of alot of humor. "I say we call my nephew." "I say we build a moat!" "Lets take Bikini Bottom, and push it somewhere else!" "That is so stupid it just might, GET US ALL KILLED!" Ah classic moments.

Re: Chat Thread XXX: It's Not What You Think
There are still some good ones, and even the bad ones usually have their moments, but overall it's not nearly as good. I'm not saying you could sit down in front of new Spongebob episodes and you'd be bored; just that the older ones are fantastic whereas the new ones aren't.Bino wrote:Aruguably the spongebobs remained good.
