September 14th birthday art. Moustaches Are Awesome One of the characters is in a PG comic (guess which one) and the other is in a definitely not PG comic ( no doggy-woggies, rainbows or happiness there, it's just a dark story with occasional morbid gratuitous violence).

they all look great, Zander.
Re: Art Thread
From the beginning of today was a perfect day. Good news kept coming in and I was happy. Then some slightly disappointing news came in. Then the worst new came in at the end of the day. And now I feel slightly gloomy. I drew a picture to express how I feel.

And what are the particular benefits of SAI? I've heard people praise it, but only in vague terms, I don't really have a sense yet of what makes it unique.

Re: Art Thread
How I draw is, first, I sketch it out, then I ink it with inking pens. I then erase the whole thing so only the pen is left.
Using Photoshop and illustrator:
1. Scan it
2. go over the inking in illustrator, making vector lines.
3. Align them all
4. Export to Photoshop so I can color in the vector lines.
In sai:
1. Scan it
2. Use bucket tool to color using original pen lines.

Re: Art Thread
Ah, I see. So it produces cleaner lines, or at least is more intuitive for coloring?
I don't have the commitment to turn my inking into vector lines, I just stick with the original pen lines. I can at least excuse my laziness as an effort to preserve the character of my pens?

Re: Art Thread
With your pen lines, to color them do you outline it with some tool? With sai, it's a easy as selecting the color and clicking the parts that you want to color.

Re: Art Thread
If I use one of my precious few nonphoto blue pencils, I can isolate the pen and the magic wand works fine.Zander wrote:With your pen lines, to color them do you outline it with some tool? With sai, it's a easy as selecting the color and clicking the parts that you want to color.
Otherwise, I either have to erase my pencil lines or just do a lot more work coloring, but I usually use the blue if I have any intention of cleaning up and coloring and all that.

It's made specifically for the lovely purpose of digital art. It's not worth a WHOLE lot if you don't have a tablet, though.CaptainPea wrote:I like this expression.Zander wrote:*argh matey I'm biting a pencil*

Re: Art Thread
I sketch it, then ink it. Then scan it in to photoshop. But if I scan in black and white there are these flecks of black everywhere and the outline doesn't look very solid. So i go greyscale. Then in photoshop i use the paint daubs filter and then the photocopy filter to get the lines black and good. then I clean up the line art. Save it, then use inkscape to trace bitmap then back to photoshop to color it. I really need a tablet, that way I can sketch it and scan it and then use the tablet to outline instead..Zander wrote:How I draw is, first, I sketch it out, then I ink it with inking pens. Yeah, so uhh... new to drawing and such D: And I've only been getting serious about honing my skills for like, 2, 3 weeks now. This is my first attempt at coloring and such via digital mediums. Critiques?

Re: Art Thread
I must say, Milo, the effects, anatomy, shading, and background you placed on that drawing make it look awesome. The eyelashes, though, I'd suggest using a smaller pen, and refined a bit more. Besides that, I like the drawing very much; it has life.
Everyone has a story. What's yours?~

A Hint of Color It's been a while since I posted some art.
If that doesn't meet your expecations then here's a really awesome completely digitally painted drawing by alphaleo14.
It is of a an anthropomorphic lion on a mountain bike. http://alphaleo14.deviantart.com/art/ke ... -111559933
