just a suggestion.

No, no. Let's do this now before the timeskip. It'll make more logical sense and save Tack having to find a way to wake Jin in the middle of the night without getting eaten. :P

@Argent: I retract my previous statement. Let's wait just until Jin and Tack finish their discussion now that they've restarted it.

You got it. Now I need to research North Africa in the 1600s! Perhaps you can be marooned on the island when the Impudence arrives to pick up supplies?

Oh my! Barbary pirates - Wikipedia

Perhaps you even know where a Corsair outpost is, that would be a legitimate target for the Impudence and give Captain Palgrave an excuse for looting... always appreciated!

Lets see for trade with britain africa had many ports along the coast such as egypt, parts in the nile south africa and more, for outpost for corsair pirates, theyd focus along egypts coast and islands of north west africa where fogs and storms hid them well. There greatest tactic was poisons, everyweapon had poison either on it or dipped in it or theyd have a pouch filled with it on there side. Many pirates know few places of the corsairs and trade them with spices and gold for weapons or food. Corsairs speak african langueges dead langueges english and spanish. Many women and others practiced voodoo in many places.
thats all i know for now, hope it helps

Fennec foxes are native to North Africa, and Ireland was suffering from the aftermath of multiple waves of conquest and reconquest by England. Its an unlikely place for a Berber to settle.

Also, there's no magic in this neighborhood (other than talking birds of course).

OBJECTION!!!!
you have to think outside the box hyper could add how the character got to Ireland without being muslim at all, an example family put through trade to England where they took them to Ireland by mistake with many crates of food and animals!

or

the characters owners moved to Africa to get away from the war with others and kept there own traditions to themselves to wait out the time of war in Ireland and soon got a fox from the market for a pet.

The "Barbary Pirates" were active from the European coast to the shores of South America at the time, and sunk or captured thousands of ships. They're under-represented in pirate literature, and would make a splendid addition to the story. :)

I wasn't proposing that it show up in the role-play, but OK, I'll edit my comments above.

If Hyper really wants an Irish Fennec, I'd like to see a reasonable scenario for it in the backstory.

Dune isn't Irish. Her owner had lived in Ireland for 5 years or so, and he had learned to read, write, and speak Celtic. Then, he moved to North Africa and adopted Dune and taught her how to understand Celtic.

There were a number of European (primarily Dutch, I think) pirates joining up with the Barbary corsairs around this time (and radically improving the quality of the North African galleons), so I can see that working. An Irish pirate, eh?

Put it in your desc, and take out the magic crystal, and I'll timeskip to your introduction...

Looking at references online, there's an awesome historical link. Grace O'Malley, the "Sea Queen of Ireland" (and noted pirate leader), died in 1603... and a young enough sailor from one of her ships could still be active 20 years later, and showing up with a pet fox in the Spanish Main...

You don't need to have them speak Spanish, you can assume that pretty much all the dialog is actually in Spanish, English is definitely a minority language on the Impudence and I'm only using it for names and occasional epithets.

That's a sneaky way of getting an extra pet on the boat.

OK, we have Rhyme, Patrick, Blacks, and from the rats Gulley, Pinch, and 'Pepito'. Better not get separated, rats, you'll get left behind. :)

When they discover her owner and her on the island. Perhaps a pair of almond-shaped eyes are watching the boat from a convenient clifftop.

They've sailed to another island. Tackle has warily made a deal with Jin to trade information, Gulley has stolen more food and then hidden in the longboat going to shore to explore the island, smoke was seen coming from the island but it's now gone leading the crew/captain to think it's inhabited and that the inhabitants may be less than friendly, Tackle has hidden Pepito, his little spy on the longboat, Jin is in the crows nest torturing a mouse with anecdotes from his life, and a pair of blue eyes are looking over the cliff at everyone, Pinch is in Black's pocket heading to the island and Bowsprit is looking for Cedric to do some recon of the island.

Probably about a tenth of a league.
Wikipedia wrote:Between 1400 and 1600 the Spanish nautical league was equal to four Roman miles of 4 842 feet, making it 19 368 feet (5 903 meters or 3.1876 modern nautical miles). That seems pretty straight forward until one realizes that the accepted number of Spanish nautical leagues to a degree varied between 14 1/6 to 16 2/3 so in actual practice the length of a Spanish nautical league was 25 733 feet (7 843 meters or 4.235 modern nautical miles) to 21 874 feet (6 667 meters or 3.600 modern nautical miles) respectively.

Starting around 1630 the Spanish geographical league was used as the official nautical measurement and continued so through the 1840s. Its use on Spanish charts did not become mandatory until 1718. It was four millias (miles) in length. From 1630 to 1718 a millia was 5 564 feet (1696 meters), making a geographical league of four millias to be 22 256 feet (6784 m or 3.663 modern nautical miles). But from 1718 through the 1830s the millia was defined as the equivalent of just over 5 210 feet, giving a shorter geographical league of just over 20 842 feet (6353 m or 3.430 modern nautical miles).
Unfortunately we're right in the middle of the transition period between the nautical and geographic league. In practice that doesn't matter: this is a 20 year old ex-British vessel out in the hinterlands of the Spanish empire, and the charts of the time weren't accurate enough that the difference between 5903 meters and 6785 meters mattered that much. I'm going to treat a league as 6km.

So, 600m, a little over 1/3 mile.

That may just be too far out for Cedric to risk flying. He may just have to reveal his secret to Bowsprit...
