Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
The "aah there's a rat on my back" scene with Carlos and Miguel reminded me of the "spiders" scene in the first Indiana Jones movie, and they had that rope right there... so *whack*. Sorry Pinch.

Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
I meant to clarify earlier that the last bell of the morning watch is 8am. I'll post a picture showing the different bells and times in my first OOC post.
Back in the day sailors measured time by turning over a 30 minute hourglass and the bell was struck a set number of times each time it was turned.
Edit: It's posted here.

Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
Oh, Tackle was mad ever since that incident with Pepito. He just hasn't acted on it. Like it says in his character description, he's good at plotting.
As for the update, they're still at the island with the ship anchored in the bay. Not much has happened on the island aside from camping, drills and refreshign themselves on the beach, although there was a big treasure haul found and the rats found a second in the cave that the humans/other animals don't know about yet.
On the ship, Jin has informed Tackle that the cats are planning a raid on the bilge but he wont say when until he's met the queen so Tackle has gone to get her, hence the soldiers at the meeting place. But another cat has walked through the meeting place so they're waiting to see what he'll do, Tackle has kept the queen back and they're all waiting for Jin to show.
Bowsprit and the Stooges are setting up the rat's new camp after about 150 of them from both sides left the ship to start a new life on the island.

Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
We actually do have a slot available. We've got a group of characters on an island at the moment and on this island is a colony of giant rats or agouti so if you'd like to be one of those and join the crew that would be good.
If you have an idea for another character you can run that by us too. The difficulty is getting new characters onto the ship. We've already had a character living on this island join the crew so it wouldn't be feasible to do that again. But perhaps if your character was washed up on the beach during the night?
The third option would be to play the part of a Bilgerat as my character, Tackle, is currently the only Bilgerat character (aside from a couple of NPCs which I also play).
We (Argent, the GM and I, the backup GM) would prefer an agouti though since we already have quite a few crew members and several Topsiders, but either way, pop your ideas in here and we'll see what we think.

Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
Okay. I could join that. The "washed-up-on-the-beach" sounds okay. It's not the worst add-up-in-the-story I've done.
Name: Nicodemus(Prefers to be called "Nick")
Species: Agouti
Age: 3 Human Years.
Neighborhood: 17th Century Fox.
-Appearance-
Looks like a typical agouti. Has dark-brown fur and his other eye is ripped off. Wears a leaf over it to cover it.
-Personality-
If a group would get stranded on a dark, deep forest with him there, he would probably be the one to become the leader and tell everyone to calm down. Brave and pretty smart.
Other Notes:
Nick was born at the island, and has lived there all the time after that. His life has been pretty dangerous at some points, but he's pretty lucky, so he dodged most of it. Most important point of his life was when he fell off a cliff and caused a huge wound at his face that ripped off his eye. Luckily, he survived. Unluckily, he got a huge scar in his face. After that, he never did anything that stupid. He is very adventurous, and getting bored to the same old island, so he would like to join a ship's crew to see the world. He pretty much literally explored every part of the island. A great swimmer, who does not fear dangers, and runs straight at them. Pretty literally sometimes. Once, one of his friends jump in water and stay there for a minute. You can probably guess that it wasn't a good idea. He doesn't get in danger himself, it's almost always just one of his friends daring him to do it, and he having a sudden strike of idioticity and accept the challenge.
SPECIAL
STR-3
PER-7
END-8
CHA-7
INT-9
AGI-6
LUC-6
Also, can I RP right now? I have an idea on how did he get at the water anyways.
Also, I'll be using this for talking.
EDIT: Fixed something. Enough backstory?

Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
If you're doing an agouti, you won't need to do the "washed up on the beach" thing since the agoutis already live on this island. Also, the special rule for stats regarding small animals wouldn't apply for agoutis, I don't think as they are up to 6kg (12lb) in the real world, making them as big or bigger than most cats. They are called "giant rats" for a reason, you know. This means that the minimum number a stat can be is 2 and that they should add up to 42.
As for the "other notes", can you give him any more of a back story? Also, no bears. This is a Caribbean island. You don't get bears in the Caribbean. We've actually already established that there are no predators on this island aside from one eagle and maybe the odd snake which is why the rats are so numerous here.
He sounds like a fun character though, and I look forward to RPing with you.
You will need to wait until Argent gives his approval before you begin RPing though as he is the GM for this "neighbourhood" and he has the final say on everything here. I actually have no real authority beyond that required to keep the RP running smoothly.

Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
The backstory now looks pretty good except for one thing. Can you think of something to put in there which would explain his desire to join the ship's crew?
Your stats are adding up to 46. Can you dial it back to 42 please?

Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
If you develop it a bit. You could say he's thoroughly explored every inch of the island and is bored with it and his adventurous nature has driven him to jump at the chance to get away and see more of the world.
Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
An agouti would have a name like "Yaotl" (warrior) or "Yalotli" (heart) or "Milintica" (firebrand). He would speak Nahautl, and possibly a little Spanish or Dutch or English. Nicodemus refers to "victory", so in Nahuatl that would be Tepanahualiztli. Bit of a tongue twister.
Now would be a good time to join, you could have him sneak up on Gulley and Pepito and be all "Senors, I speak ghost people language good eh? I can come with you?". Freak the little treasure hunters out.

You'd better share that link to the Nahautl dictionary again, Argent.

There are two people in the ship known to speak Nahuatl - the fox Blacks, and the ocelot Patrick Thomas.
The agoutis are the size of cats, which makes them average-to-short among the animals on the ship.

Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
No, I thought that was good. He's probably best to keep out of the way for now since there's so many cats around anyway.
Tackel actually has the hardest job. He has to stay hidden si he doesn't get eaten at the same time as communicating with Jin and remaining visible enough to signal his army.

Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
so question. when will we all be leaving the island?
Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
When Blacks doesn't get sick. It was going to be a week, we're on day 2 (or day 1.5) now.
Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
As for the building, I was looking at historical pictures and diagrams to try to be accurate, but then I thought, wait, this whole island is made up. Out the window went accuracy.

Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
Well, we were trying to be at least a little bit accurate but if there was a Western influence on this island I could conceive of a two story place.
Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
I don't think that'd be necessary though. I think two story houses can be developed by advancing civilizations on their own.

I suppose so. They'd certainly have the materials for it, living in a forest and all.
Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
Yes they would. And the only cures I now for fainting are slapping, dunking or splashing with water, or smelling salts. So hopefully the slapping the face will work.

Slapping seems to have done the trick. Pepito is apparently too superstitious for his own good.

Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
Whoops, I missed the bit in the OOC about the rats being British. It won't really change anything about what I've written so far. Pepito will still be Spanish as he was picked up along the way somewhere. I'll change the line about Sally speaking only Spanish to read only British and Spanish.
I was thinking that the Bilgerats were more army than navy but it seems that both Pinch and the Topsiders are using naval ranks so I'll have the Bilgerats fit that too. Which means Tackle is technically an Admiral, although it sounds kid of odd.
Hotep: I'll let you write for the rats under Pinch's command although I'll keep control of Captain Brown.

Re: 17th Century Fox - OOC
The common language on the ship is Spanish, and the ship's been in trade and worse for 20 years, including a wreck.
I suspect the bilge rats will be more British, but there's going to be Spanish admixtures in both.

Quite possibly. That might also contribute to why Captain Brown doesn't particularly like him, given that the captain is rather British. Poor Pinch, Sounds like he's had a hard life.

not really. for a french rat he lived with a good family at the borders of france and learned early on about soldierly things from his cousins and brothers. the few bad things that happened were robberys, lies and death of people he knew.
