May I just say.... SQUEEEEEEEEE!!!!
All the saints look out for Tiny tum
as Jess steams out, melting snow underfoot,
to grab the opener by his long ears.
She'll haul him out and make him come
to see the suffering of those that praise him -
she'll make him confront his fears.
Falstaff and Truck he's met before
and he knows all about their 'skills' -
They crashed Max's party and ate his food
and they saved his rep for sure.
But Jessica will be a shock for him no doubt,
maybe she'll change this 'scrooge' for good.
Never mind past; never mind future,
here comes the possum of openmas present.
She'll brook no refusal, and allow him no chance
as she melts his ears with her discomfiture.
To save the season and the sweetest young child
she'll pull the Opener's heart and make him dance.

And now Jessica can get to the source. I wonder how she'll act when Zach lets her know how he feels.

So now Zach and Jessica will end up teaming up to put an end to the worshipping.

I don't even get why it took so much for me to realize this arc is (probably?) based on Ebenizer Scrooge's Christmas fable, asd

Re: 2013/12/09 - Cubby Hole
I do agree with the consensus on this one, Tum is adorable. It seems that recent larger arcs have consistently had some visual appeal designed in via one character more than others, be it cute Tum, mucsley Jata, or Peanut's impressively vibrant facial expressions. At the moment I'm wondering how far through giving Zach pieces Jess will get before finding out that he dislikes the Opener role as well.

Reminded me of a scene from the Simpsons, I forget the plot but for whatever reasons Widower Ned Flanders wouldn't/couldn't get medicine to his kids and they said something like "We're gonna see Mommy!"
Also, am I missing it or is there no link from the comic? I went to forum>Housepets>comic to get here.

Okay, just what the Dickens does Rick think he's doing here? A Housepets! Carol? Really. What some people won't do for cute.
Speaking of which, who is the Scrooge going to be in this arc? The Peanut Gallery seems to think it's Zach, but it's pretty clear to me it's Jessica whose eyes will be opened.

If this arc is gonna be some sort of parody of Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol", I think that'd be pretty awesome!_Stu_ wrote:I don't even get why it took so much for me to realize this arc is (probably?) based on Ebenizer Scrooge's Christmas fable, asd
I've always loved Rick's adaptations to classic literature and performances, mainly the imaginate arcs.
I wonder if this is gonna be similar to what he did a few years back with the 'It's a wonderful dog's life' arc, cus I'd love that :3
My question is, who would mirror who? I'm guessing Jess will play Scrooge, but how does Zach come into this? :/
I bet Zach doesn't even realize the woodland animals have created a festival in his name though.

I feel sorry for Zach. Ever since he released Pete "Satan" Griffin from that temple, the woodland animals are crazy over him, and take even the smallest rant about them stealing his diary as a miracle...

Really? I mean, people can reference stories done on Christmas, but you really shouldn't be calling this bottom of the barrel quality unless you're sure it's cheap, which it isn't...
I bet Jessica is going to catch Zach praying for something and immediately call him out on it. Similar to how Bino calls Fido out for hogging all of that glorious... glory!

Um... what's with that strangely shaped rock and freshly moved dirt in the last panel? ...moving on...
I think it would be interesting to see a Housepets! "A Christmas Carol" but I don't see it working. None of the characters (except Jata, and possibly Pete) seem wicked enough to deserve the "Ebeneezer Scrooge" treatment.
Although Zack doesn't like the whole "Opener of Ways" treatment, he's not mean-spirited like Scrooge was. If Jess is completely open and honest (no pun intended) with Zack about what the little one needs, then it's likely Zack will do what he can to help.
Not that I think this is what will happen, but I see this as a possibility...
Jess confronts Zack about what's going on. Zack explains he has no mystic powers, but he's willing to help in what ways he can. (I don't expect Zack has an on-hand stock of penicillin either.)
Jess then takes him to Ink's tree, where Zack notices it's cold even inside. When he sees the little one he also notices that he's wrapped in newspaper instead of suitable cloth blankets.
Zack then remembers an old piece of plywood back in BG, and suggests that it could be made into a door. That way the breeze wouldn't get into the den the way it does. (Maybe the candles were somewhere else? Some sort of shrine?) Zack also remembers the Christmas giveaway at a thrift store back in BG, and suggests that they get some good blankets from it.
So Zack and Jess go get the plywood, as well as some bags of blankets. With Zack's unexplained knowledge of carpentry he fashions a door from the plywood, and Jess wraps the "most cute one" all up with a couple blankets. Within a couple days the little one gets better.
...The trouble is that even though now both Jess and Ink know Zack for the ordinary bunny he is, the rest of the forest thinks everything is due to Zack's infinite wisdom. (Which causes more problems for the already high-strung bunny.)

Alternatively, it will be an exploration into Zach's character and his status as the Opener of Ways and the specific religion that has formed around him (and not necessarily all religions)

B. With Zack behaving like Brian from a certain Python film, I think it can be intended more as a slightly mocking attack on blind religion more than anything else. Those who choose to follow prophecy rather than what's in front of them.
Re: Unhappy day...
Well, considering the title, I doubt it would be an attack on religion.Ninkurou wrote:As an Religious Man... I'm not happy...

Also, I believe that Rick is a devout Christian. I don't see him as doing a soapbox piece against religion, certainly not seriously.

Took another look at the comic... Ok, I can see it being a tin can of some sort. At first I saw the horizontal lines as being writing and thought it was some sort of headstone, but it would make sense for them to be cooking soup for His Most Excellent Cuteness.
