Hlaoroo wrote:Scotty looks crestfallen.
"Hmm. I see what you mean... Well, you could have meetings in the lounge room every now and again and Scotty can go to those." suggests Frances as her stomach rumbles.
"Ooh. Pardon me." she blushes again.
"It's been a long time since we ate." she giggles as Scotty's stomach also gurgles and the cat looks down at it and then up at the others sheepishly.[/color]
Watkins chuckled. "Ma'm, Sir it is our duty to make sure you suffer no more. Please, follow us." The cop pair walked to the car. Valiant turned one last time to the pandas and said, "As for you two, I confide that you will be guarding over the place and keep it safe from intruders. I ask it as a cop and as acquire member of the Royal Family. Can we count on you?"

The two nodded enthusiastically.

"Sure sure!" They both said.

"We'll get our stuff out in the mean time," Vinnie said, Sonjah nodded, "Still, that means we'll have to go back to the van. Oh well. Now THAT he'd be able to fit in for sure!"

"Yeah, we won't bother ya ma'am," she said, "Your house is your house. Come on silly, let's get back up there." Then the two fired hook shots at the roof and climbed back upward. Then Vinnie went to the left side of the house, over the edge by rope, and through the air vent by moving it aside, and into the house he went. Sonjah stood over the roof with her crossbow at the ready and waved to the police.

"Wait, I- I didn't mean..." But the pandas are already back up on the roof.
"I didn't mean you had to leave! Just that it'd be nice if you cam down to say hi every now and again!" Frances calls up at the panda on the roof before helping Scotty back down the step.
"So how far away is the diner?" she asks Walter as the cat wheels his chair towards the cop car.
"Ought Scotty and I to follow you in our car?

"It will make your welcome more official," Watkins said. "Your personal bodyguards, doesn't happen everyday."
"And you can trust them guys, ma'm," Valiant offered with a smile. "In their own way, they are as serious as if that place belonged to them. They will respect it."

"We've never had a police escort before. This should be fun!
Scotty attracts Valiant's attention with a wave and then pouts his lips as though making an "ooo" sound while flashing his paws open and shut. He points to the blue and red lights atop the police car and makes the motions again before grinning and raising his eyebrows at Valiant questioningly and waiting to see if the dog has understood.

Scotty's grin broadens and he nods vigorously. Frances laughs and ruffles his headfur.
"You're such a kitten sometimes, Scotty!" Scotty pokes his tongue out at his owner which just makes her giggle all the more.
"Well, boys will be boys. Is that even legal though, using the sirens when it's not an emergency?"

"Oh, that's not a problem: We can't go full blast and speed, that would be pushing it. But we can use the ' slow down' mode when we want to tell someone to stop their vehicle. If that's OK with Scotty, that is."
"Well, we could always make a detour outside Sunset," Valiant offered. "Just a short trip down ol' Abbey Road at full blast and speed. A couple of minutes of fun won't harm anyone." He blushed a bit. "If that's not a problem with you, Officer."
Watkins just shook his head. "I guess it can be done. But this is gonna cost you the coffee, Officer Leone. Now let's go."

Scotty and Frances suddenly share an uneasy look and Frances fingers the ring on the chain around her neck.
"I.. I think it would be best if we stayed at the slower speeds in the town. Scotty and I... aren't really comfortable travelling at high speeds any more..." The cat slowly nods to confirm this.
"If it's all right with you two we'd rather use the sirens at the lower speed..."

[A brief summary of the events with Winni.] But if I can't get my point across, what good am I??? Mitch texts to Rikki.

"Dog in a mob accident?" Mitch asked, interested.

Knowing it was better not to inquire further, both cops helped Scotty aboard and then waited for Frances to get in herself.
Eventually, the car left, its sirens blaring. And Watkins had absolutely no idea of what to say to stop feeling like a complete idiot!

Well, the dog used to help his owner with interesting jobs, like archeology, town histories, and sometimes the odd supernatural cases. Dad says he helped him with trying to find his old grand piano that was owned by his great grandmother, but thats a long story. Wiggins explained. In fact, he would've been my new brother, had one of his owner's old friend adopted him.

Arriving at the diner, Frances unfolds Scotty's chair and helps him back into it.
"Thanks for that!" Frances' and Scotty's moods have dramatically improved since they'd left their new house behind and the prospect of food, drink and good company is making them even cheerier.
"Made us feel like Presidents! Shall we go in?" Scotty nods eagerly and begins wheeling his chair towards the door, waving to Valiant to follow him, as Frances offers Walter her arm. Realising what she's doing, she drops it again before hte cop has a chance to take hold.
"I'm sorry. That was inappropriate of me, Officer. I got a bit too excited. Sorry." She feels her face go red as she sheepishly examines the ground for a moment before turning to follow Scotty.

"We're on break, ma--Frances; so that's no biggies. Not to mention that this is more than a pet-friendly community: We love to get to know each other, strangers are for the big city. And as for why I chose this particular spot..." Watkins pushed the paned glass door and gallantly bowed, making room for the two new residents of Sunset Plateau.

Frances, thanks the officer politely as she wrestles Scotty's chair over the threshold. Once in, her jaw drops.
"Have we stepped back in time? This place is awesome! Real vinyl seats! Autographed pictures! Ooh, look! There's even a jukebox!" She drops a few quarters in the machine and watches delighted as the robotic arm deposits a record on the turntable and the needle drops into the slot. Soon the diner is rocking to Elvis's "Blue Suede Shoes". Scotty taps his paws on the armrests of his chair in time to the music as he looks around at the pictures on the walls, recognising some of the celebrities pictured and staring blankly but appreciatively at the others.
"No way! How did they get an autographed picture of Rin Tin Tin???"

"Yup, that he is" Valiant answered with a happy sigh. "And that labbie there is the actor who performed Old Yeller. Mama Watkins surely did a good job of preserving this place."
"Oy, mama!" Walter called out to the kitchen's door. "Come greet our new residents!"
"Only one stupid son o'mine could address me with such insolence!" came the tenor voice, not dissimilar from a gospel singstress. A moment later the doors opened, and in barged a matron of a woman in her full sixties and dressed to match the era the diner reflected. her hair was auburn like her son, but with more grey to show, where Walter showed just a hint around his temples.
Dorothy Watkins had a merry expression, and her smile became even more contagious when she saw the cat in the wheelchair. Oh dear Lord Above, but you will look at this angel!" She walked into the hall and gave Scotty a hug with her big arms. "You and your Mom are my guests today, and not a word. Dorothy," she offered her hand to Frances. "My part of the family runs the food biz side, his part runs the protection. You just moved in, Miss..?"

Taken completely by surprise, Scotty freezes for a moment with jaw agape before hesitantly reaching around the lady and shyly and somewhat awkwardly hugging her back. Frances smothers a giggle at the cat's predicament before shaking the proffered hand.
"Brandson. Frances Brandson. Please call me Frances, Dorothy. And we haven't exactly moved in yet. The truck bringing our stuff broke down on the interstate and won't be here for a few hours yet. Your son was quite the gentleman and offered to buy us breakfast though. This place is feeling like home already." Scotty smiles and nods in agreement before wheeling himself over to inspect the record labels on one wall. He cranes his neck, trying to see into the jukebox but unable to lift himself from the chair, he can barely get his eyes over the buttons. Giving up, he wheels himself back to the group as his stomach rumbles again, seduced by the delicious smells wafting from the kitchen.

"That was the idea, sunny," Dorothy replied. Then she scowled at Watkins. "Walter Moses Watkins, shame on you! Can't you see our li'l angel can't look at the records? Go help him or next time you eat, Hell will freeze all over!"
The cop immediately obeyed and, used to work as he was with animals with paralyzing disabilities, carefully lifted Scotty so to make feel the tabby at ease. "Better, boy?"

Wiggins listened to the conversations going around him. He looked over at the standing Winni. He got up and walked over to her, looking up at her and asking Hey, are you okay?
Winni rolled her shoulders as she continued standing.
Yeah, I just... messed up. Winni replied.
What happened? Wiggins asked, worried for the large red panda.
I can't say. Winni wasn't sure what she could or could not say to the rabbit, and would rather wait until it was just them.

"Mu HA, watashi wa sukoshi Chūgoku hanasuga, sore wa soreda. But no, no I don't, I'd love to some day and would love to go there some day," Mitch said, "But I'm glad that it's still..."

And then a high, long horn sounded in the distance.

"HEY! THERE'S our All Clear! So, now we just wait for our," Mitch said, and then a long, sharp whistle could be heard, then several small explosives could be heard. This happened thirteen times, then six gun shots could be heard. Followed by six horn blasts as the troops made their salute to the wolves. Mitch immediately went crestfallen and put his hands on the table and rested his head there.

"CRUD," he said, then his phone started buzzing, and he promptly ignored it.

"Ah hem, Mitch," Crazy Shore said, Mitch glared at him and he turned away leaving him to his misery.

Winni stood to attention, not sure what 6 horn blasts meant... or all the explosives... What was going on?
Wiggins looked over at Mitch to see he was depressed.
Hey, Mitch, whats with all the gunfire and explosives? I thought you said it was all clear... Wiggins said.

"I've no idea wot yer jus' said bu' i' sounded impressive." She jumps at the sudden noise and then nods at Mitch's explanation.

Scotty nods and smiles at the cop to show his appreciation. Perusing through the records, he spots several titles he recognises and many that he doesn't. He briefly considers waiting for "Blue Suede Shoes" to end and then picking another song but his stomach gurgles again, reminding that it still needs filling. Walter gently put the cat back down into his chair. Four of your magnificent breakfast, ma."
Valiant licked his chops. "Crunchy ham, scrambled eggs, potatoes, pancakes with syrup and oj. Will that do for you as well?" he asked their guests, as they all took a vinyl seat by the window on the street.

The moment he's back in the chair, Scotty zips to their table faster than he's ever wheeled himself before. Lining the chair up with the end of the table to save climbing into the benches, he mimes tucking a napkin into an imaginary collar and picking up a pretend set of cutlery, ready to eat. The table is slightly too tall for his chair but Scotty doesn't care. Frances laughs at the cat's antics.
"Yes, that sounds wonderful! Scotty obviously agrees." Grinning broadly, Scotty nods vigorously, making Frances giggle again as she slides into the seat next to Walter.
"Could I trouble you for a coffee too, please? Scotty'll stick with the juice though."

The phone went silent, Mitch sighed.

"That's cool, I know a little Chinese myself, which, Chris, is exactly what I said, mostly," Mitch said, then he pulled out a pack of bicycle cards, Ellsward and Fellsward whistled air and twiddled their thumbs.

"Cards anyone?" Mitch asked, hopeful that the subject of the new arrivals would not be brought up again. Then Chealzeyard's phone began to ring and he answered it right away.

"Uh huh. Yes he is. No he didn't. Yes he's fine. Uh huh, uh huh, yes sir, he's incogni...yes sir," Chealzeyard said to his phone, "Sorry Mitch. But, your father has ordered I shoot you, with stuns, and pull you by your tail to the ..."

"IT'S TOO FURRED EARLY FOR THIS JUNK!" Mitch said in frustration, glaring at his officer.

"AND I JUST, JUST, met new people!" He said. Chealzeyard finished his sentence.

"And pull you by your tail to the palace to meet your new relatives by force, then I will do so IF," Chealzeyard said, pausing, "You don't answer his NEXT call."

"FINE!" Mitch said in frustration, shaking his fists at his sides as if he was going to punch something. He got up and stormed to the back room past the hall to the small room on the far right. He faced the corner and buried his face in it. He banged the wall with a fist.

I Just, JUST met these guys too. IT'S NOT FAIR!
He thought angrily to himself, waiting for the call.

"Let him alone, he knows better," Chealzeyard said to the pets, "He'll be fine. So." He picked up the card pack.

"Cards, anyone?" Chealzeyard said.

Dorothy went and took a hot pot herself. "A diner without coffee? Like springtime without flowers, sunny. Here you go!" she filled one of the empty mugs standing on each table, and filled another for her son. "Breakfast with you in five minutes, or I'll serve you my souz chef's head. See you later!"
Once Dorothy had left for the kitchen, Walter said, "Before this diner, there was a post for the stagecoaches and pony expresses. You could say that mama's family has a long tradition of filling stomachs. She got that picture of Rin-Tin-Tin from her grandma back when the Production of "Valley of Fear" shot half of the movie here around." He sipped his coffee. "My family, instead, has a history with...military. It is said that the first American Watkins ever were Minutemen, before joining the Revolution against King George. After that, it was US Army until World War II for every male Watkins able to carry a gun; the last Watkins soldier and his faithful dog, Commando, helped build a special base at Meriweather Island to protect our ships in their voyages to and from Europe.
"My grandfather quit the Army when the Vietnam mess started, said he didn't want to be involved in that folly, and thus he joined the police. We've been policemen, or firefighters, national guard and the such since then. Ours is a large family, but with solid traditions."

"Thanks!" Frances sips at the hot drink.
"Mmm! That's good!" After a few more sips while listening to Walter's story, she becomes curious.
"So, has it become tradition for every Watkins to have a dog too? Is Valiant yours?"
Meanwhile, Scotty is typing on his computer.
"Hey, Val, can I call you Val? Hey, Val, that sign language you were using earlier, could you teach it to me and Frances please? I think it could come in handy. Er... Pun not intended." says the machine and Scotty giggles silently at his accidental joke.

Chris briefly considers following Mitch but thinks better of it. She turns to Chealzeyard with a grin.
"Cards are my fing! Did yer see my trick earlier or wos dat one of da over pandas? I got 'eaps more tricks too. Games are fun too, dough."

Walter nodded at Frances' question. "K9U. Gramps couldn't bring Commando with him when he left the Army. He was teamed up with a big brute GSD by the name of Kaiser. Figure. And yes, most of us Watkins got a dog working by their side; for example, my brother is stuck with this Dalmatian named Cicero.
"And no, Val is not my dog, ownership-wise. He belongs to the Leone family. I..."
he sighed. "I lost my dog when he was a puppy. Sickness. Still trying to elaborate, I suppose. But Val's being a real friend."
The Italian Wolfdog wagged his tail. "You couldn't order a bagel without my help, Sir: Your mother loves serves you her breakfasts only because of *my* charming presence."
The man fumed in a comical way. "Take that back, or I'll get you behind a desk until your muzzle becomes grey!"
Valiant rolled his eyes. "Tch, promises, promises... As if her best attention weren't turned to me." then he addressed Scotty. "I will gladly teach and your Mom the sign language. Belisarius learnt it really fast, and if he could make it, it will be a milk run for you two."

"Tricks? Groovy!" Chealzeyard said, tossing the deck to Chris with a spin on it.

"Can ya do one with all of us here?" He asked.

"Us officers like cards but I like good tricks, really good tricks, myself," Chealzeyard.

"Card tricks? Sounds cool. But, uh. Are we just gonna showcase tricks, or are we actually gonna play. Cause, I find playing with cards, you know, funner." Blay said to Chris, a little nervously.

Chealzeyard drooped his ears and face.

"One card trick couldn't hurt I suppose?" He said hopefully.
