Re: Chat Thread 41: Mod Maker
Question! Since I'm currently in London, I'm going to hop over to the theatre and perhaps watch a musical. My uncle over here recommends "Les Miserables" and I thought it'd be a good choice too, since I'm gonna be spending the next few weeks in Paris. However, my theatre experience is next to none, and I'm unsure if watching "Les Miserables" is a good idea, I've heard people say that it's rather boring and not good for a first watch. So I figured that you guys are pretty cultured (more cultured than me that's for sure) and I would like some advice in picking out a musical. Feel free to suggest anything, thanks!
Also, I could have posted this in the music thread but it seems pretty inactive to me, and I would appreciate quick replies; I've only got five days left to spend in UK

Re: Chat Thread 41: Mod Maker
I went to see Les Mis in London and I was blown away by it. I can't recommend it enough. It got a standing ovation from the entire house.
It may take a bit more work to really understand than some of the light-hearted musicals simply due to its nature and that may put some people off but it's certainly well worth the watch. It's really not boring at all if you pay attention and try to understand the story.
If you want something a little more light-hearted though. I thought "Matilda: The Musical" was hilarious! It's a new take on the classic children's book by Roald Dahl and it was also very well done. I'm not sure if it's still showing or not but it was great! It got a standing ovation from about half the audience.
I've also heard that Wicked and The Lion King are worth seeing but I've not seen them myself so I can't really comment.
Shrek: The Musical was amusing to watch once but it was fairly different to the movie.
Whatever you watch though, the experience of going to the theatre is very unique and I'm sure you'll love it!

Re: Chat Thread 41: Mod Maker
I recommend you see Les Miserables. It's an awesome musical, and without a doubt one of the best there probably is.
I helped out with the sound in a local theater when they did it, and between all of the practices and tech rehearsals and actual shows, I've probably seen it about 15 times. It was absolutely great and I would watch it again in a heartbeat again if I could. And that was just a local community theater, I can only imagine how much better it would be in London.
If you're worried about the "it's boring" thing, it all just depends on how you look at it. If you just truly aren't into musical theater, this play probably won't grab you in. They literally sing everything. Because of this, it's also very easy to get lost in the music (because it's just that good) and miss the dialogue in it. It took me following the script as they sang 3 or 4 times before I finally managed to figure out the entire thing.
As much as it pains me to say this, and under no condition would I recommend doing this for any other play, you may want to read up on the plot and what happens throughout the entire thing BEFORE you see it so it's easier to follow along.
I actually envy you, having the chance to see Les Miserables in a professional theater in London. I want to see it on Broadway, and I will at some point, but probably not until August.

Les Miserables is fantastic, though it's really more of an opera than a musical. I think it's mostly just labeled as a musical for marketing purposes, because of the stigma with opera.

There are currently only two people who know it. One because I told it to them in an agreement that we had, and the second because they like to snoop in places I never expected them to snoop.

JeffCvt was joking because Sleet asked, ambiguously, "Was it Beagle?" without indicating whether he meant JeffCvt's alternate identity or the person who discovered it. Sleet, as you are aware, does not disclose his gender here. She has one, and identifies as it.
Also, no, Sleet, I'm the person who investigates inconsistencies and looks out for peculiarities.

At first I perceived that as a slight on Sleet's gender thing...and out of context that's what it kind of looks like. But let's put it in context...JeffCvt wrote:I can assure you that I don't pretend to be a gender that I am not.Sleet wrote:Was it Beagle?

So I'm assuming Beagle is the name of a member of these forums, and Sleet's guess as to who Jeff's alt on here is. And I'm guessing Beagle is a girl, while Jeff is a guy and not at all gender confused.JeffCvt wrote:I can assure you that I don't pretend to be a gender that I am not.Sleet wrote:Was it Beagle?

She also happens to be a friend of not only me, but some of the mods and older members before she went kinda inactive here.
She is also the only person online to have my phone number and seen my face due to a Skype call.
And, if I'm not mistaken, she may have been the first to discover Sleet's gender. She found him/her on Google+, and since then Sleet has taken steps to make sure that you can't do that again.
And last, to answer the other possible way Sleet's question could have been taken, no, Beagle is not the one who found it.

Either Sleet didn't take those steps immediately after Beagle found it, or you're confusing it for my story. The second is more likely since I found Sleet's gender that way shortly after Google+ went public, and I think Beagle knew it before that.JeffCvt wrote:And, if I'm not mistaken, she may have been the first to discover Sleet's gender. also, I think sleet may have been asking if Beagle was the one who knows due to an agreement.
