Is that something that has happened to you?

I was very rude, interrupting the buzzing around of insects at a scenic park. I even covered one in my saliva! The nerve I had! Tsk tsk.Amazee Dayzee wrote:Is that something that has happened to you?

If you split the two characters used in the Japanese spelling for "Senpai" it becomes "Previous Person".

Watching sports events in public and open for the public is called "Public Viewing" in Germany...Amazee Dayzee wrote:Wait? They watch sports WITH the body in the casket or does it mean just viewing sports in a bar area?
If you attend a "Public Viewing" you'll maybe see somebody with a body bag - or rather with a back pack that he calls a "Body Bag". xD

President Theodore Roosevelt published his first scientific paper, a study about summer birds, with age 19 to such acclaim that he became an insta-celebrity among ornithologists.
His speed reading ability allowed him to comprehend a page at first glance and reportedly read an entire book in an hour, which he did about three times every day.

Americans, it's in our stereotype to be eat lots and be generally unknowledgable about other countries. But it's just a stereotype, one that I don't actually see anybody living up to.Amazee Dayzee wrote:Every country seemingly has their own quirks so who are we to judge.

The lyrics to Major Lazer's "Lean On" are different in Australia.
Everywhere that isn't Australia: Blow a kiss, fire a gun
Australia: Blow a kiss, into the sun
And the Australia version is nowhere on YouTube.

Almost, but not quite, Sleet.
On another fun note, an episode of the kids' show Peppa Pig was banned in Australia because it taught kids that spiders were harmless and not to be feared.

I remember Peppa Pig when Cartoon Network briefly had a pre-school block over here! I really liked some of the shows I glanced at! And not all spiders are deadly, but since everything in Australia wants to kill you...

No matter how tempting it may be, as a DM I can't both present a problem and solve it.
Every time a DMPC or NPC fixes something a payer couldn't i'm diminishing and undermining that player's contribution.

In 2005, Egypt formally requested that the British Museum return the Rosetta Stone to its native land, but British law prevents the museum from giving up anything in its collection (even items looted by the Nazis that ended up in Britain).

Oddly enough, the very first high heels were made for soldiers in the 1500s who needed a way to keep their feet snugly tucked into their stirrups while riding on horseback.

Flavoured shaved ice is called ABC (ais batu campur, or mixed rock ice) in Malaysia. They are usually served with either coconut milk or condensed milk, rose syrup, various sorts of jelly bits and fried peanuts. A popular option is to put a scoop of ice-cream on top. It's very fattening, but a blessing during a hot day xD

Cashews are always sold without their shells because the shell contains an oil that can cause a rash similar to poison ivy.

Here's something I realised this morning, like, JUST moments ago.
...and now I feel dumb, because I feel like I shoulda known this already.
"Internet" is short for "International Network"...
Before now, I didn't really think it was short for anything, I just figured "The Internet" was the name they gave it and that's all it was.

Re: Useless Information Thread
That's also the reason you can't eat them raw. Cashews are actually in the same family of plants as poison ivy and mangoes. Interestingly mangoes can also cause that rash. Also, cashews are technically speaking seeds and not nuts.Amazee Dayzee wrote:Cashews are always sold without their shells because the shell contains an oil that can cause a rash similar to poison ivy.
@Thom: You blew my mind. I never thought about the etymology of the word but that makes perfect sense.
Re: Useless Information Thread
Actually "Internet" was originally short for "inter-networking" and was originally dreamed up (in the form of the ARPAnet) for the US. The idea was of a network that connected other local networks and could automatically reroute data if some section of the communication lines were damaged (due to war or such). Since the specifications made it very easy to add local networks to this inter-network, many have done so since
