Black Cat Magic Hours: Prologue
Five hundred and seventeen dollars, and 35 cents.
Two bags of personal belongings, including a few sets of clothes, some books, a journal, a road map, and some other small personal possessions.
A 1973 Plymouth Fury, Dark Blue.
A set of damaged glasses.
These were all that Jolty Halvenson had when he left that night. This was all he could take. After that, everything went downhill. It all just...crumbled apart. Like an old granola bar in the bottom of a backpack.
He had difficulty being hired, even for trivial jobs. A black cat was a bad omen. And no one cared enough to buy gloves that had an extra digit on each finger to account for his polydactyl.
So he did whatever he could. He fought tooth and nail to stay alive.
He was always told he was smart, that he had a bright future, maybe as a scientist, or even an artist. He was always told he was good at science and drawing.
But he knew they were lying. Nobody wanted to be honest and admit he was an absolute failure. A coward, always hiding behind his stronger, more popular twin. But he knew it. After his twin had gotten his scholarship to the acting school he always dreamed of, Jolty left. He wasn’t needed anymore. They had graduated, and he didn’t intend to stay around the house. He needed a job, and he needed to move on.
The first three years had been hard. But Jolty discovered that he had a little charisma, and with what little intelligence he had, he made it work.
The last 3 had been harder. His car was breaking down, and a few times he had almost died of hypothermia. But he made it work, he always had.
He remembered the night he left. Everyone had been fast asleep. He grabbed all the things he could fit into two smaller bags, and ran outside. He pulled on the handle trying to hide the tears streaming down his face from himself. He pulled open to the door, finally, and drove off, cranking on the radio to hide his own sobs.
You’re not needed anymore….

Go to precociouscomic.com and read up on it. In fact sometimes housepets will advertise it at the very bottom of the page!Asurakitsune wrote:owo, who is Autumm, and thanks <3She kind of reminds me of Autumn from precocious... Very nice work otherwise.

Since I can't draw or make art, I'm gonna share an artist I found on the YouTubes that I enjoy. She does kind of talk in a childish manner, but she makes beautiful watercolor paintings that are really cool to watch be made.

Really enjoying watching your character emerge, IaMJackie....
Re: Art Thread
A fusion of Reinhardt from Tails of Babylon and Winter from Housepets 1X. As this doesn't involve canon characters, decided to post it here instead of the fan art thread.
Re: Art Thread
I've been working on my drawing and this is the first one I feel confident enough about to post online.
Any suggestions would be very helpful!

Deft mix of shades and coloration...very striking. Lotta personality there. Well do'ed.
Re: Art Thread
Hehe! Thank you very much! I'm happy you like him!
Re: Art Thread
Looks great!
Managed this. What I did was make a flat top-down view of the thing, then went edited it in Clip Studio Paint to look angled, then lined from there. Came out a lot better than I expected, but I realized I drew myself into a corner when it came to applying the strings, so just left them out.
Also, this violin was only meant to be used by Macabre when he was in an alternate form, which I posted here some time ago, but seeing everyone's art with him using this normally, decided why not? Even got some backstory for this. It was a gift from Macabre's father when he set out from his home.

Detective Pikachu... Never thought that would be a thing, but it works. Also, I wanted to draw Rick Griffin's O.C., Jenna, again.
Re: Art Thread
They're looking really cool!
Re: Art Thread
Terrific shading work there, dryideabat...
Re: Art Thread
Finally made Macabre's enhanced form. Still can't quite do backviews, though.

Re: Art Thread
Well if you're looking for tips, i think part of it is you're trying to center things when you shouldn't. from his head and shoulder position, this should be a 3/4 angle shot, so the details shouldn't be centered. the middle of the bone "V"s should be 2/3 of the way across his chest/back at this angle, not in the middle. second, unless they're skinny enough that their ribs show, a person's chest is either flattish or bows outward, but the back often bows inward but just slightly, so you need to reverse how you curve certain things compared to how they are on the front. I think you actually overdid that curvature a little under his arm, or under did it on his lower back, cause it seems like he is simultaneously leaning back and standing ramrod straight, somehow.
also from the side your jaw hinge lines up with your windpipe not the middle of your neck. so while the front view is close enough to have the right effect, from a 3/4 behind view the jaw hinge should be more to the right and not line up with the neck at all. lastly, the tail bone is part of the spine and should follow the same curve as the rest of it, if you give the top of the lines for the tail too much of a sharp corner to them it makes it look like the spine is bending 90 degrees, which is something that would break it, try starting it a little higher up and at an angle instead of straight out then down.
any of that help?

Most important thing I've learned from D&D?
No matter how tempting it may be, as a DM I can't both present a problem and solve it.
Every time a DMPC or NPC fixes something a payer couldn't i'm diminishing and undermining that player's contribution.

Re: Art Thread
Still far from getting perspective right. Let's see if I can do it right the next time. doubt it
Never noticed that with the chest, another thing to jot down.
Not sure I understand what you mean about his lower back, though.
Did not know that about the jaw hinge. That's what I get for not consulting a reference...
Hm, with what you said about the tail (gave me a bit of a headache, that detail) sounds like my initial sketch would've been slightly better. Odd considering I thought it looked awful. Had to look up how Rick does muscular tails to get this version, but still didn't get it right.

the side of his back bows inward to a degree that (to me at lest) looks like he's leaning, but the middles of the decorative bone things are in a straight line. the details contradict each other.

Okay, I see what you mean, now. Dang it, looking at it now, that could have been an easy fix.

I made these for an 80s themed convention I'm going to in August. The first is normal colors and the second is 8-bit colors.
Douglas isn't my real name, but because of a name block put on me by a higher-order being known as Djinni, I can't say my real name.

Intriguing, Doug.

That's so cute, Douglas! But, I hope you don't laugh at us if we miss to shot at the duck. Cool draw, Nicholas. Very nice draws D-Rock, Ferret, and the others.
