Title Text: Let's make this moment be the symbol of our lives
We'll pawn your dad's computer and we'll sail to paradise
You're a girl, or maybe a wagon filled with snack cakes
Miles, you should be surprised that the things lasted that long.

Have you ever thought about sharing your snacks Other Daryl?
Re: 2018/07/11 - Blame It On The Alpha
Has "other daryl" lost weight? He looks less round, and more muscle in the arms.

HA. I was right about Miles being the ALPHA. Take that Champion Wallace and everyone else who contradicted me.
On a lighter note. AWW look at King being all campy and stuff. He's a better man than me. I cannot stand camping and have never actually been for that reason.
Oooh. Okay so we now have Rockstar Hawk, Poncho, Daryl and other Daryl on this little trip. The list continues to grow.
Last thing, can someone explain the alt-text to me. It made no sense. I cannot tell who's talking or even what they're saying.

No need for that kind of callout.fenrirblack wrote:HA. I was right about Miles being the ALPHA. Take that Champion Wallace and everyone else who contradicted me.
Also, since real wild wolf packs are typically family units, and we know that Miles' pack are one large extended family, it's likely that he was merely a chosen successor when the former leader reached advanced age.

Daryls’ abound in the wild
but one’s acting the child,
complaining for all he’s worth
(and it’s not the one with the girth)
As King nails down his sails
the Wolf passion for camp fails
as they settle near the lake
and, in panic, run out of cake.
Setting up in the wood
to be the best Wolves they could.
One question means success or fail.
Has Miles really forgotten Gale?

So far as I know even though the old usage of alpha etc has fallen by the wayside, it's still used in a newer context? In this case Miles would be more of the pack patriarch, but you call him an alpha because wolvesD-Rock wrote:No need for that kind of callout.fenrirblack wrote:HA. *Sigh* In light of this new evidence I concede Miles and Lucretia are the alphas. How you said it made me think you were insinuating Miles keeps his positions and the pack peace with physical strength.fenrirblack wrote:HA. I was right about Miles being the ALPHA. In the previous strip we could see eleven silhouettes (give or take), so with those four, King and his full family (I doubt they got a sitter for Olive and Rook), and Miles, that only leads room for Mile's other two cubs.fenrirblack wrote:Oooh. I don't know if I'm the best to explain this since I've never seen it (or even know what medium it is), but the alt-text is copied from Homestar Runner with "pancakes" being replaced with "snack cakes". We know Rick watches (reads?) Homestar Runner because "Uh Buh Duh Fuh" from Paralysis Of The Mouth is also from that.fenrirblack wrote:Last thing, can someone explain the alt-text to me. Darn it Rick stop putting in so many references to Homestar Runner. (Actually don't, I love it when you do~ *goes to binge the series again*)rickgriffin wrote:A wagon fulla snack cakes? In the Champeenship? I'd like to see ya try!

...suddenly, a LOT more of the comic makes sense.
Re: 2018/07/11 - Blame It On The Alpha
That's a buncha cardboard. Guess we're gonna learn if wolves recycle. Good catch on the silhouette count, champ, but maybe a couple of folks are off-camera. Time for a group shot, Rick?
Pride goeth for a fall? I thought lions had prides and wolves had, you know, packs? I gotta stop writing these comments at 2:00 am.

I'm surprised The Other Daryl isn't a lot fatter given how much he eats.
Re: 2018/07/11 - Blame It On The Alpha
It definitely looks that way, doesn't it...Rikunda wrote:Has "other daryl" lost weight? He looks less round, and more muscle in the arms.
I always had a fantasy about characters getting out of shape when they aren't given enough "screen time" betweens appearances.
Maybe "out of shape" for Other Daryl is him getting buff and skinny? I mean, it HAS almost been 3 years... ;0P

Other Daryl sure is looking thinner today. Even moreso tha- wait a second...
Re: 2018/07/11 - Blame It On The Alpha
He's been getting buffer, he was basically spherical at Christmas (you couldn't really see him in that one shot in the zoo arc, but I assume he was spherical there too), and he was still pretty chubby-all-over on the Australian trip. Ironically started getting muscular-with-a-snack-belly in the eating-contest arc. He's hardly even got moobs now.Rikunda wrote:Has "other daryl" lost weight? King seems relatively at peace right now. Wonder if that will keep up when he has to go potty (Keeping it G rated). Even when he was first changed to a dog he still went to the plumbing first. Once outside of Pete's influence he was free to revert to old habits.
It is well established that our brains sanitize our experiences. Will he lose it when reality comes slamming home?
Also, Prediction: There will be no fight in the classic sense between the wolves and pumas. Gale clearly said Miles ceded the territory. Not lost it, it wasn't taken, he voluntarily gave up the rights to it. I see more of a Forest Court type of thing. After all if the forest denizens can understand the concept of "proselytizing", they can get behind title claim disputes and fair use.
As long as Jessica isn't the judge, or maybe she should be. It would be like Court TV.

Yeah I've wondered about that too. It would seem too easy for Rick to make a "poison ivy" joke at that situation.King seems relatively at peace right now. I'm surprised no one has made jokes about shouting wolf in a crowded theater
I'm actually optimistic about that wagon. Pups + wagon = hijinks!
and is that a tent with rope? They still make those?

I didn't notice that. That is an old style A-frame tent. I bet he specifically requested one of those just for nostalgia.

Re: 2018/07/11 - Blame It On The Alpha
I don't really see this being an issue. Having gone camping a ton when I was younger, I can safely say it is waaaaaay different when you're in the woods than going in your backyard. I can see how it'd be hard to understand if you've never really been camping, but judging by how fond King is of his memories of camping I'd honestly be shocked if this even merits a mention in the arc.TeflonCougar wrote:King seems relatively at peace right now. I understand what Rick was going for but you can get some really nice tents for relatively cheap on amazon. Nostalgia great and everything but I rather have "Tent in a Tube"Bandit1990 wrote:I didn't notice that. That is an old style A-frame tent. Animals usually use the toilet anyway. The fact that Pete made King go outside was just Pete being his sociopathic self. I guess years of camping prepared King for seven months of torture at the hands of Pete. Just thinking about it makes me so mad.TeflonCougar wrote:King seems relatively at peace right now. I'm curious how other daryl is going to survive this trip.
Also, did his fur get darker? He actually matches Miles now.
Lastly ~ look at all that litter.

When you're doing a cartoon about camping you want a tent that looks like a tent, not a marsbase.
Re: 2018/07/11 - Blame It On The Alpha
And the camping is beginning, with the placing of the tent. Be careful with that hammer and your stubbed fingers, King. So, for the wolves it's going to be an harder time in the nature, what a shame. Eheh, the fat Daryl can't never wait to eat. They brought so many of them.
