I don't exactly know how this will pan out, however, I thought it was worth a shot :lol:

SO, here's the idea: Smash Bros style game, but with Housepets! characters. The idea was originally for Savestate (another webcomic which you should totally read) but there simply weren't enough fans willing to help make it, so I switched gears and jumped to Housepets, hoping y'all would be a bit more enthusiastic.

So we don't have much done yet, and a lot does have to be done. Models are probably the most important part of this, since without the models, we have no characters, which means no game. So that's probably #1 priority. We also need people to just generate ideas, like movesets for the characters. And if any of you have coding knowledge that would help as well :D

This is the first wave of characters we wish to include, hopefully we can add more later if this thing goes well!

There is an existing Fighting Game Idea thread, though I think that was for emulating a more standard fighting game like Tekken (and the project fell apart). You might be able to siphon people from that.
The cape comes with the promotion.

There's was barely anyone to "siphon" in the first place. Besides, Chaoko has moved on to focus on his personal IPs. Build his own career from them.

Good luck with this ambitious project, hopefully it's the right one. :) Unfortunately, there have been at least two game projects in past which then got cancelled.

Since I know nothing about coding for graphic design, this was the best I could do. Some are unoriginal but Res is the one I'm most proud of. Some I did the best I could. Hopefully some will prove useful.

Also a side note since Karishad is a Sona, we can't use him without permission, so we have replaced him with either Joey or Mungo, that's still being determined (most likely Joey)

Really hope that this game does work out though I'm not sure how far you will be able to get because as others have said game makers don't make up a big population on the forum and we had several other games which never panned out.

Yeah, but I figured I may as well try. Plus we found a modeler, and we have 2 or 3 programmers, so at least we aren't lacking anyone crucial atm. Voice actors shouldn't be too hard, and Fenrir did most of what I thought was gonna be the most time consuming part of coming up with moves. So I'd say it has a chance. Fingers crossed! :D

Okie dokie! So now that the forums are back up, I can ask this question :lol:

We thought that Smashpets could be read the...wrong way...so I was gonna ask here if anyone had any suggestions!

Please note that we do eventually (it's probably a long way off) plan to include other comics such as Savestate and TwoKinds, so please try and keep name suggestions fairly open and not Housepets specific. Thanks! :D

Good character selection menu idea, it's a nice start. ;) What about have an actual background image, maybe with a tinted mask to don't be too flashy, instead of that black?

Ay!! So this is where it is.
So a bit of an update:

- The game name is now "Paws of Fury"
- Game logo is almost finished (Will post it here later)
- Start menu is underway
- Still finding better pics for the characters (especially for Grape, Tarot, and Fox)

I think that's all for now.

A little update again! We now have a title screen, game mode menu, and some basic physics and movements down.

We also have our first song, composed by Biddyfox! It sounds really nice, I'll see if I can share it here later tonight!

Cheeseburger the Fox here with a bit of advice: make the game as different looking from Super Smash Bros. as you can. Then, hopefully Nintendo won't try to take it down.

Not sure this helps, but I have a few item ideas.

Shock Collar: Throw it at someone. If it hits, small shock damage. If wet, multiply by 1.5
Water Bucket: Toss water on people. Gets them wet for 10 seconds. No damage
Empty Bucket: After state of bucket. Throw it at someone. Small damage
Jar of Termites: Throw at someone to deal damage over time. If broken by an attack, the breaker of the jar gets affected.
I have ideas and I occasionally put them down.

as an avid smash player, I'm super behind this idea. I can't do much in the way of coding or programing or things like that but if you ever want some tracks I can possibly help with that.

Only possibly advice I can offer is that recently Rivals of Aether added a steam workshop to their game in which really anyone can create a custom character. If you want to test your ideas in well oiled "smash-like" I'd suggest creating a character or two in there to see what they might look like in motion. Would probably be a quicker testing ground than making something mostly from scratch or mugen based or something? Just an idea.

Definitely a viable idea. Though the rest of the team wanted to make a 3D modeled game. And likely to allow much more personal freedom, such as a story mode in the future. Progress has fallen silent on the Discord again, though.

So, talk on the Discord for this game started up again. Still need people to work on developing the engine, so we're still at the concept stage. Figured as long as people are working on it, wanted to post the concept art for the villain.Image
We don't have a name for this guy yet, but he's a creature called an "enfield." Sort of an amalgamation of different creatures, I greatly simplified the idea, really just to show off the fox variant I wanted to use. They're described as having the upper body of a fox, forelegs of an eagle with wings, and the hind legs of a wolf. Went my own variant on here.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This was drawn using a base that was provided to me by Krytus the Dreamer. I'll see whenever I get to properly drawing him.

This was an opportunity to work on a different body type. With how his concept ended up, decided to give him a bit of a gut. frankly, it makes him look kinda cute. I'll work on a bio sheet later, already have some ideas in mind for him.

I'm just a bit confused since the second picture looks different than the first for some reason that I can't put my finger on. The first picture he does look like a villain but the second picture he doesn't. If that makes any sense.
