Grape is actually a really good chess player except against Marvin. Marvin knows, if he takes a long time making his moves, she'll doze off and he can cheat. Unless he doses off, too. They are cats, after all.

The idea that she's a good chess player has actually been in the strip. She chastised Peanut when he was playing against the cubs about the moves he was making.

And of course, like all good chess players, she knew the names of the chess moves.

Actually, based on what we saw in the comic's earlier days, that makes a lot of sense.

Pretty sure that is because of the fact that when they were all younger Fido didn't even really care that much for Sabrina and then this was probably before Max and Sabrina dated so it was before Fido interacted with Sabrina.
