Grape dreamed that Peanut took an Akkadian correspondence course - I'm not sure if he actually did in real life.

But they did reenact the dream quest when Pete was freed. Besides, that language in his word bubble is not Akkadian cuneiform, so it might be a language that Rick made up. If he is from 5000 BC, then he is probably speaking an unknown language since the first Written language, Sumerian, didn't appear until about 3350 BC, and Egyptian hieroglyphs around some time after.

Maybe he is from some pre-pharaonic version of Egypt or some precursor to Sumer and Akkadia. I hope he comes to stay in Babylon Gardens on a permanent basis! If you think Itsuki, or Jessica and the wolf pack make for good fish-out-of-water characters in suburban America, imagine a Jackal from 7000 years ago!

I don't think the Housepets world worries about genetic accuracy, especially considering there are gods in their universe evolution might not have happened, at least not in the same way.

Let's allow people the joy of discovery on their own terms - some folks prefer to find out who new characters are, what they're doing, and why they're doing it by reading the finished comic.

This is true, Satau could come from what we know as Egypt, but there were cultures in the region precursors of the Egyptian; talking about circa 5000BC, the Badari culture and Merimde culture existed there around that time, so Satau could be not a proper Egyptian but instead a Badarian or Merimdean.

Then again, we don't really know if Housepet universe follows our history as it is.

I'm guessing he's not a really a jackal either, seeing as jackals aren't actually black, at least not in our world - that's an Egyptian depiction; maybe they are black in the HP universe, though? Either that or Egyptian culture in the HP universe reaches back an extra 2,000 years or so and he was bred to look like that. Or I suppose he could just be a black dog that coincidentally resembles Anubis. I guess this will be cleared up in the next few comics.
