Rabbits have a near 360-degree vision and can even see behind them. They have just one blind spot right in front of their nose.

Re: Useless Information Thread
There are no muscles in your fingers, only tendons. The same tendon controls your middle and ring fingers. You can prove this by placing your hand flat on the table/bench/desk/ground/whatever, palm facing downward, with your middle finger curled under and wiggling your ring finger. If you do this properly, you'll find you can't actually lift the ring finger off the table. Pretty cool, huh?
Re: Useless Information Thread
I tried; almost broke my ring finger xD
The word 'sergal' comes from the Sanskrit word 'sergal' which means jackal. Oddly enough, in Bahasa Melayu/Bahasa Indonesia, a similar word derived from 'sergal' (serigala), means wolf.
Another case is the word 'naga'. While in Bahasa Melayu it means dragon, 'naga' as a Sanskrit word means cobra.

Pokemon will soon run out of names to be used, and this a mouse pokemon named Spo will be likely.
Pokemon might also go on to have over 2000 species and around 15 regions, bringing the question as to why it took so long to notice that more than one region and 150(151) pokemon existed.

"Minced Oaths" (E.g. "Howl", "Carp") can also be called "Euphemistic Dysphemism". This is different from a regular euphemism (e.g. "Restroom" instead of "toilet" or "pass away" instead of "die") since instead of completely replacing the offensive material, it still provides the offensive material but in an "softened" form. Dysphemism, on the other hand, is deliberately using an offensive term when a less offensive one could be used instead.

Dexterity is noticeable when you perform the same movement with both hands. You can play piano easier with both hands instead of each one individually. The same applies to other contexts, so you can learn to be ambidextrous.

Johnny Smith, who composed "Walk- Don't Run" in 1954, passed away on June 11th, he was one day away from his 91st birthday.

Re: Useless Information Thread
It is impossible (are you ready for this?) to prove that (this will blow your mind!) anything exists at all! That's right. You can't prove that anything exists.
Let me explain why.
Everything we know about the world around us and even about our own bodies comes through our senses and is interpreted by our brain. In order to prove that something exists, we have to prove that the information provided by our senses is correct AND that this information has been interpreted correctly by our brain. This is something we cannot do since to recieve and interpret that data which would prove this our senses must sense it and our brains must interpret it. We know that our senses can be fooled (magic, optical illusions, tactile illusions (e.g. cross your fingers and gently rub up and down your nose and it will feel like you have two noses)) and we know that our brains can be confused (confusion, seizures, disorientation, motion sickness etc). This means, therefore, that since we cannot prove that our senses are providing us with accurate information or that our brains are interpreting it in the right way, we actually cannot prove definitively that anything exists.
Here's an example which may help to clarify this. If you smell a rose, you would think that it exists. If another guy also smells the same rose, you would think that that proves its existance since the two of you smelt it. HOWEVER, you only think that the other guy smelt the rose because of the audiovisual cues picked up by your senses and interpreted by your brain. If your senses were fooled and your interpretation of their signals in your brain is inaccurate then that guy may not have existed at all, nor even the rose but you would have absolutely no way of knowing this.
For all we know the Matrix may be real. It's impossible to prove otherwise.
Here's a video which explains it probably better than I did.
Is your mind blown yet?

The Stepan Company, in New Jersey, is the only company the United States Government allows to import coca leaves (which is the natural source for cocaine). The Stepan Company extracts these cocaine crystals from the leaves; they then send the leaves to the Coca-Cola Company and the cocaine crystals to Mallinckrodt, the only pharmaceutical company in the United States allowed to refine these crystals into medical cocaine.
On the topic, Coca-Cola gets its name from the two unique ingredients of its first formula: coca leaves (which gave early formulas of the drink various amounts of cocaine) and the kola nut (from which much of the syrup was created). Originally, Coca-Cola was considered a "cure-all" remedy and a non-alcoholic version of French Wine Cola. Also, multiple people created the same drink over the span of the late 1800s until copartnership agreements formed the Coca-Cola Company.

Re: Useless Information Thread
There is a phenomenon known as the Frey effect where people can hear audible clicks or buzz from exposure from certain microwave frequencies. It was first reported by workers working at radar installations. The interesting element of this effect is that the microwave produces sound using your brain! Basically a portion of the brain is rapidly heated (although by a minuscule amount) by the microwave pulse, the resulting pressure wave propagates through the skull and into the cochlea. This meant that nobody else can hear that 'sound' except for the person himself.
Anyone interested in earphone-less hearing technology (involving microwaving your brain)?

The smell of old books mainly comes from the chemical Lignin, which is present in all wood-based paper, is closely related to Vanillin. As it breaks down, the lignin grants old books that faint vanilla scent. It also contains a number of other volatile organic compounds which adds to the smell.

It's a commonly held assumption that Native American society was less 'urban' than societies in Europe and Asia. This is false. In the Middle Ages, the archeological site of Cahokia in Illinois held around 15,000 individuals. The cities of London and Paris were about the same size at that time.
It took until the year 1800 for any American city to beat Cahokia in terms of population.
