I musta posted on here at some point as it's in my "view your posts" list but I dunno where and I'm too lazy to comb through all the pages to see what I put.

I don't really know why I didn't participate in this thread any more than that...I remember it being something weird about the theme of the discussion in this thread that made me feel I couldn't talk about my video game past, present and future in detail.

But now I've done so in the Chat Thread 42 coz video games came up for about a page or two of discussion before the mods had to interviene because of the specific thread over here. (which may or may not have been prompted by me) I think it's time to share on here.

...

My Video Game Past:

My first console was a Sega Master System. So, as you might guess, the first game I ever played was the first Sonic The Hedgehog game, pre-installed onto the console itself. I also had the Sonic 2 cartridge.

I don't really remember any of the other games I had for this console, though. I do remember having the original Space Gun but that's about it.

...

The second Console I had is the Super Nintendo Entertainment system, or SNES.

I should actually still have it today, hidden away somewhere in the house I live in or one of the garden sheds. And last I played it, it still worked fine.

The game cartridges I stil have for it have Zombies Ate My Neighbors (just called Zombies on my copy) Nigel Mansell's Formula 1, a simple tennis game simply called Virtual Tennis, and the original DOOM.

I remember having a Zelda game at one point...based on the graphics of all the Zelda games, I believe I had "A link to the past"...and I remember being a lucious, green world and encountering some knights in different coloured armor, and then I remmeber cutting away some bushes and revealing a hole to fall though...but I don't remember what was on the other side...I also rememebr doing...something, I'm not sure what, and ending up in this desert-y area and I would find this sort of pyramid, fall through the top,a nd inside would be the big bad guy...who, after numerous attempts, I was able to defeat by learning his attack patterns, I guess...but since I didn't play through the whole game properly, he wouldn't stay dead, and just come right back if I visited that pyramid again.

And I remember having a Metroid Game...based on the graphics of all the Metroid games, I believe I had Super Metroid...and I remember being stuck in the first area you spawn in because I never worked out you had to shoot the doors to make them open.

I also remember having Street Fighter 2...and I never figured out quarter-circle-forward punch to hadoken, but I would do it accidentally on occasion, and this would make me believe you acheived it by pressing punch a whole bunch. I could only beat the game with Blanka, because I figured out one of the shoulder buttons made him curl in a ball and cover himself in an impregnable electric forefield that hurt my opponent whenever they tried an attack.

...

The next console I got was the Playstation 1

The Playstation is definitely the console I grew up with.

I still have some of the PS1 games I've played over the years...

  • Command + Conquer 1 (A.K.A C + C Tiberium Dawn)
    Command + Conquer Red Alert 1
    Crash Bandicoot 1 + 2
    Disney's The Lion King: Simbas' Mighty Adventure
    Firestorm - Thunderhawk 2
    GTA 2
    Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone: The Game

    Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee
    Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus
    Railroad Tycoon 2

    Star Wars Episdoe 1: The Phantom Menace: The Game
    Tenchu 2
    Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2

    X-men: Mutant Academy 2

I also remember having:
  • Desruction Derby Raw
    Medal Of Honor 1
    Tank Racer
    World Rally
    Some pinball game I don't remember the title of.
    A few others I don't remember right now

...

My Video Game Present;

I still have a PS2 console and a lot of the PS2 games I've played, and even some games I've yet to play for various reasons;

  • Canis Canem Edit
    Grand Theft Auto 3

    Ultimate Spider-Man
    Wallace And Gromit The Curse Of The Were-Rabbit: The Game
    Wipeout Fusion
    Worms 3D
    XIII (Yet to be played)

I'm usre there's some PS2 games I've had to let go of in the past but I don't remember any of their names.

...

And then there's my PS3, for which I have;

  • Assassin's Creed
    Assassin's Creed 2
    Assassin's Creed Brotherhood
    Assassin's Creed Revelations
    Battlefield 3
    Blur
    Burnout Paradise
    Grand Theft Auto 4
    Grand Theft Auto Episodes from Liberty City (Yet to be played)
    Infamous
    Infamous 2

    Modnation Racers
    Saints Row The Third
    Sonic '06 (yeah, I know...)
    Sonic Generations
    Sonic Unleashed
    Starhawk
    Star Wars The Force Unleashed
    Star Wars The Force Unleashed 2
    Test Drive Unlimited 2
    The Sims 3
    Tom Clancy's Endwar

I'm sure there's one or two PS3 games I've had to let go of in the past, but again, I don't rememeber their names.

...

At some point in my life, I'm not sure when, I aquired a Gameboy Colour. For which I have;

  • Poke'mon Yellow
    Wario 3 (or soemthing like that)
    A Rugrats Game
    Turok

I also remember having a Mario game for it but I believe I traded it for the Tuok game...kind of a bad trade, in hindsight.

...

And now for what I plan to do in

My Video Game Future;

First of all, yes, I do plan to get a PS4 in the future and GTA 5 with it, plus a bunch of other PS4 games such as;

  • Battlefield 4
    Battlefield Hardline
    Call Of Duty Advanced Warfare
    Infamous Second Son
    The Crew
    Tom Clancy's The Division
    Minecraft PS4 Edition
    Minecraft Story Mode

And then I also want to dive into the PC gaming side of things with;
  • Minecraft PC Edition (the thinking is; why not both?)
    Planetside 2
    Plants V.S Zombies Garden Warfare 1 + 2
    Project Spark
    Team Fortress 2
    Titanfall
    Simcity
    Spore
    Wildstar

I'm also kind of interested in games such as;
  • World Of Warcraft
    League Of Legends
    DOTA 2

Not to mention get more up-to-date with the handhelp console side of things with;

The PS Vita, for which I'd get;
  • Wipeout 2048
    Whatever other PS Vita games take my fancy.

and The Nintendo 3DS XL, for which I'd get;
  • Poke'mon X
    Super Smash Bros 3DS
    Mario Kart 3DS
    Whatever other 3DS games take my fancy

So many games to play, so little time.

So, while cleaning the office of a professor who had left, I found a new unopened copy of Ryse for Xbox One. Turned it in to the lost and found, but I can't believe that they'd clean everything out and just forget that. Don't have an Xbox One, but one of my crewmates has two, so we figured that, if the professor doesn't claim it, we'll give it to him.

I was looking for a good turn-based strategy game in the lines of Final Fantasy Tactics for the PC, and while I found a few that piqued my interest, my furry inclinations made me purchase Armello instead. I'm not that big with DnD style tabletop RPG, but the artwork.... and all them anthro heroes... my furry heart didn't stand a chance.

Here's hoping the game is actually enjoyable to play

I can vouch that Armello is a good game. But it's at it's best in multiplayer.

I agree, Armello is best with others. Thing is, with how my internet connection is, online play is severely limited at best. I was actually fascinated my first time playing against others with how everyone tried to help each other out instead of attacking everyone (I ended up winning that one by prestige because everyone else failed to kill the king before he ran out of health). I also love how each of the dialogue options you can select is tailored to each playable character. Conversations tend to get hilarious!

Also, the unlockable dice sets are usually neat.

Just got done playin' one of my favorite games, "Verdun".

Ah "Verdun" a game that beat Battlefield 1 to the WW1 MULTIPLAYER FPS by a few years..that game is lovely in my opinion. It is simple, you choose your squad type, join a battle, and start either bum rushing the enemy position with 30 other guys or stay in your trench and start firing off volleys and Sustained machineguns fire. Relatively cheaper than what Battlefield 1 will be too, 19.99 for it. It's basically discount Battlefield 1 without the tanks and driveable vehicles, but it still has its upsides.

Verdun: When in doubt, get your bayonets out.

Heh, I spent like half a day on the game, it's quite engrossing. I'm a big fan of card games, and Armello is basically D&D and MTG mixed together in a Redwall setting. I really like it!

Though, multiplayer is a hit or miss for me. Got into a great game where someone carried me to win just because I was using the female wolf, and another one where I got backstabbed in the end because the guy got intimidated. I did rage a bit (as I always do with PvP situations, I'm kinda a sore loser Dx), but at least you're not rewarded for winning other than the regular old chest/key/

Now I'm thinking of buying the new DLC and trying out the strategist rabbit, seems like my kind of playstyle. So far I feel at ease with Amber and Thane

Color Splash looks interesting, like a return to form. I'd get it if I had a WiiU.

Thousand Year Door was a great game -- I just found my GameCube, I may have to play through again now.

Does anyone here like the Shantae series by Wayforward? I've played through Pirate's Curse and I liked that game a lot, the eariler DSi game didn't age well, I thought. Not sure on the newer one that's coming out.

Been kinda addicted to Fire Emblem nowadays. I'm almost done with my PMU run of Blazing Sword. For those who don't know, a PMU (Pick My Unit) run is when you play a Fire Emblem game where in the units you'll be using will be picked beforehand by other people. It's commonly done in the subreddit and I decided to do one myself. I'm thinking of playing Binding Blade once I'm done.

Also, there's a slight possibility that I'll be getting a 3DS this Christmas. I'm thinking of getting Awakening and Fates (either Birthright or Conquest), but I don't really know what else to get. Maybe the new Smash game too. I know there are plenty of other good games to get but I can't really think/remember anything else at the moment.

So, basically it's a console-portable-hybrid version of the best bits of the Gamecube, Wii & WiiU, without the bits they messed up? I'm in.

Also, am I seeing things, or did that look like it was running on a DS cartridge? I thought cartridges in full size consoles were a dead concept...

Re: Discussion: Video Games

That looks awesome! Though I would hope that they will look into possible battery issues, like how long can it hold a charge, and also how good the lock-ins for the controls are. I would imagine that like just about anything, it'll wear out. But using them either together or by themselves is really cool!

I've been hearing that this would run on cartridges since the patent was revealed, as people noticed that there was nothing in the plans for a disk drive. Tech just keeps marching on. Cartridges, discs, back to cartridges, short time on discs, more cartridges, and now here we are on discs. The cycle will continue.

I love it! I really hope it's the successor of the 3DS as well so that I only need to get one console! I also hope it has a gyroscope and maybe a touch screen, since those could help smooth out games from older systems. For example, the trailer shows off Splatoon 2 as if it'll be esport-targeted. If that's the case, why would they take away the motion controls that competitive players of the original prefer over regular controls? D:
Buster wrote:I thought cartridges in full size consoles were a dead concept...
Turns out in the years since the Playstation, storage technology has improved and cartridges can hold much more than discs can! So now there's the best of both worlds. Faster loading times and more capacity.

I'm aware of how far SSD technology has come since the days of the N64, i was speaking more from the marketing side of things. a lot of people don't understand that Cartriges are just ROM SSDs and see carts as 'outdated'.

Maybe they went with this for nostalgia purposes?

...nah, can't be. I don't have a WiiU, so I don't know how much of a beating a disk can take, as that's the only other reason I can think of for a cartridge.

From a marketing standpoint they can work off its small size! You can't fit a disc inside the Switch.

It looks really interesting, but I hope there's some kind of software to transfer data from my Wii U to the Switch. Might have to buy the "2.0" versions of the games then, though. As neat as it is, I think I'll wait on the Switch for a while. :P

originally I thought I wanted the opposite because of price but I didn't actually realize how close their launch prices for consoles and handhelds had been.

I still would rather they keep them separate, because my brother and me buying separate handhelds seems more logical than each owning our own of the same full console while living together and only having one of us able to play pokemon at a time would be annoying.

I never thought a small, pixelated never-ending game would be fun to play..Then I encountered this little free gem called WWI Medic. The title sums it up, you play as this little medic in WW1 Trench Warfare, trying your darndest not to get shot, strafed, mustard-gassed, bombed, or thwacked by not only the Germans but your own guys It can't get any more basic gamplay than it is which consists of such.

You play as Green Allied Medic, you're job is to sit in the trench until either your side, or the german side charge. During this time, YOU HIT THE DECK BEHIND THE NEAREST MACHINE GUN. Wait out the charge behind your gun unless you see a growing black dot which indicates that either an Artillery shell or a Mustard Gas round is going to strike and end you and anyone within 4 feet of the dropzone. When the charge is done, comes the simple part. Run out into the field and bandage any wounded men up you see. If it's your green uniformed fellow Allied trooper, you must drag the now bandaged fellow over your shoulder back to the safety of the trench. The more you do this, the more reinforcements you'll receive and quicker the reinforcements arrive to replace your FUBAR'd comrades. If it's the blue uniformed Germans, this keeps them alive far longer, making their reinforcements take longer to arrive. When you notice people starting to bleed out(Or choke to death depending whether or not they got hit by gas) you best haul your butt and anyone you're carrying back to the trench with you because that means a new wave is about to come over the top. You're main goal is to survive and outperform the German medic. When you hear the sound of "rat-tat-tat" and a plane engine plus seeing your allies fall from right to left. GET OUT OF THE TRENCH ASAP, that means you're being strafed and it will sometimes clear out nearly your entire trench in one swoop, this includes you if you're unlucky enough to not notice in time. Good news is, these things that can kill and would you and the lads, Also can kill your german counterparts across the no-man's-land. If you're lucky, sooner or later you'll take their trench and if you're not lucky, you'll still be alive and you'll have the germans take YOUR trench..And that means game over and you get to watch as your medic(now AI controlled) crawls back into the german filled trench and get's a trench whackin' courtesy of the Kaiser's trench spades. It's harder than it sounds to survive this little storm because of the fact that bombs, bullets, and bodies AFFECT THE TERRAIN. Bombs make craters in the ground which provides good cover(if prone) for you lads gutsy enough to go out to do your duty during a charge, but also make it harder to see incoming bullets from both sides of you. Enough bullets hitting the ground have the same effect, and bodies make it hard to distinguish who's still twitching(those you can help) and who's deader than a doornail. IT's worth it though to see you capture that enemy trench after so many attempts however.

If you're interested in checkin' it out, look up WW1 Medic by Bay12games, the guys who made that one game known as Dwarf Fortress.
(machineguns can be destroyed by bombs, do watch out when hiding behind them, and I suggest you use the middle one, as it rarely gets hit by bombs as I've observed, but still gets gassed quite often..AND STAY PRONE. You'll be sniped from the otherside of No-Man's Land sometimes.)

I've been playing with my new PS3 a lot lately. Maybe a little too much, hate to admit. I'm playing Dead Rising 2, Tales of Xillia, and Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD. I've also got GTA V and BlazBlue: Chronophantasm, though I haven't play the former and the latter is my little sister's. A friend of mine also got me $20 to spend on the PS Store. Still haven't decided on what to get yet.

Also, I've been playing some Undertale too. It's a pretty nice game.
