Shake It Baby

Alt Text: FOR OUR NON-ENGLISH READERS: 'The pot calling the kettle black' is an expression to denote someone making a hypocritical statement. Now that the joke has been explained, you are free to laugh heartily

I love Pete’s mood-shirt. :)
Boy, King and Bailey are pretty well suited for each other – they’re both pretty feisty. :P

What a waste of a pickle and strawberry milkshake.
GK's face is priceless. It's bound to turn into a profile pic.
Oh, and Pete's changing T-shirts are always amusing as well :P

Shouldn't Cerbs (speaking off camera) and Mr Yuk ( on Pete's shirt ) get tags?

Also King and Bailey's paws clasped is so beautiful!

Pete you done goofed! You never want to beef consumme of Bailey! "You can promise heaven, but the reward is not what gives our lives value" Good saying, King/Bailey (Can't tell who said it). The way it looks, either by Wednesday or Friday, Pete will not be able to get them to change their minds and will have to live in a mortal body (Here's hoping for Pete to be forced to be Keene's servant).

Xane wrote:What rewards were even promised? Do King and Bailey even know? Kitsune mentioned them once but intentionally failed to give details. The only reward I can see that they would know about (Sabrina and Tarot might know more) is "being left alone to be happy for once". Which isn't really a reward so much as escaping torment. Bailey thought she would be keeping King canine by signing up with Pete but he immediately turned King back into a human (I don't buy that the "spell wore off", he did it to be a jerk).
Bailey is playing to let King stay as a dog. Not that Pete is talking to her in the first panel, not King. She was playing to keep their "Heaven on Earth" together. But that reward (King and Bailey as the same species) is not what gives their lives value.
Bailey, you killed Bino (he got better...) but only threw a milkshake at Pete???
As much as Bino might protest otherwise, he isn't a demigod with poorly understood limits to his personal power.
...and then The Other Daryl wins by accidentally eating Pete while going for the spilled milkshake (but even The Other Daryl won't eat the pickle with it).
As funny as that would be, Pete cleans it up rather quickly.

For me, I like how Great Kitsune continues to be as pun-tastic as Karishad, except much more knowledgeable on human technology and topics. The "Karishad as Great Kitsune's Avatar" theory is starting to look pretty good to me.

Not sure if that would happen. One FULL lifetime implies start to end. Cradle to grave. At least, by the time said servant was old enough to work for Keene, he'd probably be dead. (The world hasn't been very specific on pet lifespans.)

How long has Petes shirt been changing? I just noticed it.
also his shirt said "Quid Est?" at the second to last panel. what does that mean? I feel like I am missing a joke.

It's not that odd to order Chocolate Milk
argues the nice Soda Jerk.
After all, you should see out here. Dogs,
cats, wolves and their fantasy ilk
and a Gryphon being a right berk.
Pete's shouting his anger but is lucky
he didn't get a pickle in the eye.
He's being recorded fuming, the yob of the gods,
and raging as he gets mucky;
his chances are pie in the sky.
Kitsune jokes but it seems he's for the pawns,
mocking Pete's pretensions and fire,
dousing him with a single move – one for the logs?
They're almost out of time and their fear dawns;
they're taking this down to the wire
the manipulator and the liar.

I believe it's Latin for "What is it?"
I took Latin for three years in High School. ;)

I feel weird not noticing before. It is a nice touch that Rick added.

Also that kettle joke was great as well. It seems Kitsune is enjoying himself and the situation.

I hope I'm not the only one who isn't getting the joke, because then I would feel stupid and unworthy of Rick's infallible wit, but what does kitsune mean with kettle and if pete was black? Huh? Is it that Pete is steaming mad?

Okay, I just NOW got it (talk about slow in the head!) But I had misunderstood Pete's question. I thought he was asking who could be calling him here, not "what in the heaven is a telephone?". Gee, Pete is as dumb as I feel. :P Kitsune, you are quickly becoming one of my favorite characters!

I think that he needs to be their caretaker once they become mortal. ;) Maybe he'll have a Japanese guy as his cover.

Oh snap. Everyone knows it's a time-honored tradition in literature that when a gryphon gets a milkshake to the face, things are about to get serious. I mean, come on, even Shakespeare did that one.

I knew Pete was gonna try the angry brat approach. Good thing that pickle missed. Dill or garlic pickle juice in the eye would sting mst likely.

All they gotta do is hold off a few more minutes. The thing thats still bothering me though the the situation is king. If it ends with Pete losing out will King be a permanent corgi, a permanent human, or will it still be a matter of holding the watch or not?

Also theres still the matter of the mana chip round Kari's neck.

It's a term used to call out someone being hypocritical I think.

This comic is so full of awesome. Best way to waste a pickle shake, lady!
And the clasping paws moment is so much DAWWWW, it melts rocks :D
And about TIME that someone called Pete for all his misdeeds with mortal lives! And of course, only Kitsune could do it with such STYLE.

pete, one recommendation: do you want willing fighters for you? Promise a bunch of kids the latest smartphone and one free everchanging shirt of yours, and you'll raise LEGIONS

Oh, so that's why Bailey splashed Pete with it instead of punching him.

Knowing them, they'll probably just hang around in their current forms, un-aging (un-learing?) until they've fulfilled the 70 years (or whatever the life expectancy is now) needed to count as "a lifetime"

Me after reading panel 5:

Then I read last panel and I was like Pete in panel 7. But that was only until I noticed the alt-text. *british laugh* Ahahahoho, oh my, that was so clever *more british laugh* (Seriously, thanks for explain that to non-native speakers like me, there's no way I could have known that.)

And good job, Cameron. It's good to know everything is being recorded. I wonder if he still be able keep the tape after the whole "or was it" recurring joke?

For these guys an 'or was it' could be serious. If they wake up in the U.S., and all their passports (human and pet) say they're in Australia... They'd have entered the U.S. illegally!!!
